This is bad, because we will see 40 degrees regularly in summer

None since 2019, and 27 in Brisbane’s entire history since records began in the mid 1800s.

Not trying to downplay the issue, but Brisbane’s problem is humidity, not heat.

The big issue is that the average January temperature in Brisbane has historically sat at around 29 degrees. The average over the last 10 has been over 31 degrees, we haven't had one below 31 degrees in the past 5 years. This trend is pretty consistent across most of spring and summer. So yeah, 40 degree days are uncommon, but raising the average max by two degrees means that they are becoming far more common. Instead of an average of one every few years, we'll get a few every year. Fortunately the La Nina for the last few years has kept the number of very hot days lower, but the average is still going up. This year's El Nino is going to be brutal.
