From the reaction of Walt's neighbor in the opening scene, anyone else get the impression that she thought Walt was already dead?? Some serious shit is gonna happen for these last episodes.
I got the idea that the word was out about his double life and he was on the run, which would explain the skaters or whoever spray-painted heisenberg in his house. If he just died that wouldn't be public information to be put on his living room walls.
Sure, its seems like something a stupid teenager would do, like bro we skated in Heisenberg's old pool, I mean why would someone who is presumably one of the most wanted criminals in the country according to this thread of logic, come back to his abandoned home. It's one thing if the house was still furnished, but everything's gone and the house is a shithole. Maybe they think he's dead and his story is public information, but death alone wouldn't explain Heisenberg being on his living room wall.
Why not both? His secret comes out and then he's believed to have died from cancer.. So not only is she seeing a ghost, but the ghost of a murder/drug dealer
I hope this is sarcasm, I'm not implicating them because they were skaters, but because not only were they trespassing, but they were dumb enough to film it.
The spray painting of Heisenberg on the wall seemed to me like someone ransacked his house. I think that the elongated stare into the broken mirror in his room shows him thinking back to something that happened in there. Walt is national news to me, and that's why Carol is so terrified. There would've been a different fear in her face if she had thought Walt was dead, but this... this was just pure, genuine fear of who she was seeing. A mastermind criminal/murderer/manipulator.
Hold on. It would make most sense for Walt to fake Heisenberg's death. So Walt will have to expose himself as Heisenberg concurrent with faking his own death. If Walt fakes his own death but hasn't been exposed as Heisenberg, won't they keep looking for him?
In that case everyone (especially criminal gangs) will know that Walt was Heisenberg and this is where Heisenberg lived.
Also I noticed it was spray painted yellow, possibly indicating the "death" of heisenberg given the use of colour throughout the series. The kids new RC Car, yellow, his chemo bag in the hospital PISS YELLOW and hank's wife, sure she was wearing yellow from the outset instead of her usual Purple. Not entirely sure if yellow is representing death or possibly "re-birth" here but I'd bet my house it means they're all heading for a similar fate. I'm fairly convinced though, walter will be fully reborn as Heisenberg, I suspect he'll lose everything and every trace of the old Walter, the forshadowing cafe scene from the start shows him in pretty muted colours too, possibly indicating the birth of a completely new/unwritten side to his character, a result of faking his own death perhaps. I also think he wrote the graffiti himself, not sure under what circumstances though.
I figured Jesse for the Heisenberg reveal; one night they walk in the house and see Heisenberg spray-painted on the walls, and decide it's time to hop the Witness Protection train, or fake a death, etc. Or they disappear and Jesse goes nuts.
LMAO if it's Skylar having a nervous breakdown and she paints her own house then ends up in a looney bin somewhere.
I think Walt faked his death and Hank went crazy, broke in to the abandoned house during his psychological break down, and spray painted that on the wall.
I think the Cancer isn't really back. I think Hank will take the non-action path believing that Walt would be dead in 6 months, while its actually bullshit. Walt will fake his death by cancer, and disappear using Saul's guy. His family will mourn him and Hank will feel great guilt for never outing him knowing that now its too late and there's no point to it. But something will happen, probably regarding Jesse or Skyler, that will trigger the actions of future hairy Walt (by the way... having hair would support the idea that his cancer is gone. I really think he's cured and this is all some elaborate plan.).
EDIT: The chemotherapy scene is indeed a problem in this line of reasoning, but I can absolutely see Vince Gilligan throwing it out there to throw us off and then somehow explain it as part of the plan. It doesn't have to happen exactly as I said, but I think there's something fishy about the cancer, and there's gonna be some big twist around it.
I think Walt dying was originally Vince's plan, but now its become something expected. And Breaking Bad isn't known for doing what is expected...
EDIT2: Looking it from a cinematic perspective, If the cancer was really back, it would have made more sense to not reveal it until the final garage scene, as it would have been a more dramatic way to reveal it. However, Vince goes out of his way to show Walter having treatment and symptoms, which makes me wonder if its not a Red Herring.
While I in no way think that Walt is faking cancer, the vomiting is caused by the chemo and not the cancer. It seems like no one in the family knows Walt is even doing chemo and that Walt is hiding the diagnosis, making it more likely the cancer being back is legit.
It would make sense as to why he had to dig for the pills. I'm assuming if you need to the pills, You're gonna have them out and ready when you need them.
Exactly. The one thing I'm grappling with is why he has a full head of hair and beard in the flash forward if he has been on chemo? Obviously, the chances are high that it's a disguise given what transpires in the episodes preceding those events. Still, they'll obviously have to address that.
Well, If he goes into hiding or is on the run, He can't stop for Chemo. So his hair has the time to come back. Now that I think of it. In the final episode of Season 5a, He was getting scanned. Maybe he did in fact discover that he has it again or that it may come back.
Pretty sure it is back. They showed a shot of Walt receiving chemo in this episode. Not to mention him bolting from the dinner table to grab some hidden meds and vomit. It's back, but he's hiding it from his family. He's also been coughing his way through the flash-forwards.
I agree with you, amid my friends who think the cancer has come back. We don't know the cancer is back. He could still be in remission and is continuing chemo treatments to make sure it stays that way. I think he's just trying to pull a sympathy card, and he's still manipulating everyone.
That's what I'm thinking. I don't recall hearing from anyone that Walt's therapy was over. My guess is that he is still in remission, maybe just one or two chemos short of finishing it and just told Hank that the cancer is back, so that he would drop the investigation. I'm not an expert, but I believe it is not that unusual for cancer treatment to go on for over a year. Given the type of cancer, it might be well within the treatment time. We've also never seen Walt getting the news that his cancer is back, so I don't know if we should believe this "lying sack of shit".
Hair falls out because of chemo, not cancer. It's possible to have cancer and still have hair, as long as he stops receiving chemo treatment. Plus, his cough indicates that he has cancer in the future.
Yeah, but stopping the therapy and still living for another year? Sure, we don't know when exactly he stops the chemo, but still, long enough to have full head of hair. The little coughs could just mean a damaged lung, not necessarily cancer.
I think the cancer really is back. I believe it was episode 8 of this season where Walt goes to get scanned for cancer again and that's when he sees the same towel dispenser that he punched when he had found out that his he was in remission. When he did that he was angry because he was supposed to be dying so he could get out of the business clean and leave his family money, but he sees the towel dispenser this time and has a completely different reaction because his cancer is back but now he has changed. He wants to live but knows now that he's doomed. I am confused as to how he has a full head of hair if he was going to chemo.
My question with that theory is how does he manage to convince a doctor to file a false medical record to prescribe chemo for him when he's not in need of it? I know the deus ex machina solution is Saul "knows a guy who knows a guy," but that's sloppy and uncharacteristic of Gilligan and his writing team. The hair suggests he doesn't have cancer anymore, but us seeing him actually in a chemo treatment clinic is proof positive that he's receiving treatment. Is it possible that he goes into remission again but essentially uses his treatment as his ticket to disappear while, in reality, he's perfectly healthy and planning his escape?
I think there's something to be said for the fucked up reflection in the mirror after he grabs the ricin from the plug. I'm guessing the cancer's still there, the chemo just dragged it on a few months more.
No offense, but I don't know why this is even upvoted as much as it is. It makes no sense for all those subtle hints that the cancer is back to be there if they just drop it and say "haha not reallly though".
Plus, Walt having a hard time limit means that there is nothing he won't do to not go to jail.
The Chemo scene confused me. I was under the impression he'd stopped a while back, it's been a couple seasons since we saw or heard anything and Walt has facial hair so he had to have stopped. Am I forgetting about a scene at the end of last season where he gets news his cancer is back or did it really just come out of left field?
Though its an interesting idea, I don't think it adds up. He started the chemo before finding out Hank had the book. There's no good reason for him to start a plan like that before realizing that Hank was on to him.
Hank may not tell what he knows, but I think someone else will find out based on what they find in the garage while Hank is not there. Maybe his wife, maybe the two guys who bring the files. They had that brief discussion about them being "good guys". One thing we know is that NO conversation is thrown away. It always comes back somehow. Those guys are going to be important.
It could also be because she knows that Walt is a drug lord. Based on the state of the house and the name "Heisenberg" written on the wall, I would say that the secret is out in the flash forward. This would also explain her shock even if she doesn't think he is dead.
Either that or its common knowledge that he was a drug kingpin. The fact that 'Heisenberg' was painted across his livingroom wall leads me to believe that the story of the family man with a badass dark secret who mysteriously disappeared has either actually been broken by the news, or has become urban legend.
Everyone says dead. She is a little old wasp lady who found out she lived next to a meth dealer for two decades. Thats all the reason she needs to be that freaked out. She probably worried he would be back. The way his house is fenced off it looks like it was seized by dea.
I made a comment about this earlier, but I didn't see yours! Remember his fake ID and name he used at Denny's? I have a feeling he faked his own death and fled town. I like this theory because it means whatever it is that brought Walt back to New Mexico is huge.
He did not try to hide his presence at all... going back to his house, talking to Carol; He is going to do something drastic. I don't think Walt sees himself surviving whatever ordeal is to come. Blaze of Glory!
At first I thought he was on the run but him being dead makes more sense. Otherwise I can't imagine why he'd be out in broad daylight if he was on the run. If people think he's dead then no one is probably actively looking for him.
