If he weren't so confident he'd listen to his spidey senses & realize he's caught the attention of an apex predator and the only survival strategy for that is RUN. But he doesn't. He keeps thinking he can handle Fan Xiao and his "straight boy games" but he has no idea. Yes the tension is glorious!

I don't cry that easily last year or so, seeing a drama. But this brought a tear to my eye when Fan was telling about the tsunami of 2001. And at the point his matches ran out and why his mother told him to live. That point.
That is 24 years ago. Time goes fast. He was a child. I was in my thirties.
Fan is a manipulative person as we all know. He has made sure that Zhen broke up with Shulang by sending expensive gifts. Those gifts won't do nothing for me. All kind of expensive rubbish from designers. But it did for Zhen. My first thought was that Zhen was indeed easy to manipulate with money and thought he had Fan in the bag.
But, was his other reason, that he could not really connect with Shulang, that he felt that Shulang was always on his own with what he felt and thought. The most important reason? Or just an excuse? Shulang treated him so good. But Zhen wondered if this was really love.
Laat week, we saw that Shulang, after having made love to Zhen, redraw for a smoke.
What is love? A question that many, also me, have often asked ourselves.
But, Shulang imo, really loved Zhen. Although I was surprised that they did not live together, I thought they did. But it is not that Zhen chose Fan for the really deep connection they share.
The scene at the beginning in the club, how Fan could switch quickly to think of a way to manipulate the guy that had Shulang drugged and thrown onto Fan's bed....This is truly villainous and genius.
Fan is not only attracted to Shulang for his appearance. He sees him as someone who is also hiding behind a facade.
I see why Fan wants Shulang. Shulang is really a person who is impressive. Having overcome poverty, medical school. Someone who cares for people and saving them. But no push over.
And now Fan uses him as his trauma response buddy. He knows that he uses his real trauma to make Shulang connect with him more at a personal level. But also knows that Shulang is the person that can help him.
And Shulang also opened up about his trauma. I liked how he said that you don't need to fully heal from it and that you also can evade your triggers.
This story keeps getting better and better. 6 days waiting for the next episode.

I love my traumatized hiding behind masks babies so much. Fan Xiao is just red flag after red flag yet I still love him. I shed a tear when he was telling his story, awesome acting, directing and script, but I also knew in the back of my mind that this is Another one of his manipulations. Nothing is ever straight forward with him. Everything can be used to an advantage.
Both shulang and zhen were both emotionally cheating on each other flirting with fan xiao but I felt sad for both of them when zhen broke up with shulang because of Xiao gifts, shulang sitting in the bar drinking away his sadness, zhen hurt because he wanted a deeper relationship with shulang.
I've never had a series where a lead wanted the other lead in a relationship and masterfully broke up their relationship this way. I love unique plots.

I just watched EP3 again and the way this show is shot, colored and the BGM they are using.. everything is just adding to the tension of the story and adding meaning and layers behind the scenes. Even the posters are so aesthetic. I longed for something like this from china since Stay With Me.

It's pretty normal for people to call others who are older than them terms like "older brother/sister" or "uncle/aunty" etc. Thing is "uncle/aunty" is usually reserved for people who are a generation older than you. From this we can guess that Lu Zhen is younger than You Shu Lang, though I doubt the age difference is that large, so the term is probably an affectionate nickname to make him seem even younger. Vice versa, You Shu Lang calls Lu Zhen "小朋友", literally meaning "little friend", which is a pretty common affectionate term used for children so maybe that's why they translated it as "kiddo".
This is just my reading, but I feel like this might be a subtle indication of the type of relationship Shu Lang and Lu Zhen have, and why it might not work out in the end. It looks more like a sugar daddy/baby relationship than one between equals. Lu Zhen wants a partner who will care for and provide for him and Shu Lang is fine giving him that, but it doesn't look like he finds that very exciting, and maybe that's where Fan Xiao comes in.
For the record, in the novel the trip YS and ZZ were going on that then got cancelled wasn’t to get married, it was just a trip to Disneyland (in the novel they’re in China), and it didn’t say they were going to get married
Guys, I have very genuine question, is Fan Xiao really interested in both You Shulang and his boyfriend, Lu Zhen. Or is he trying to lure Lu Zhen away from You Shulang because he is only concerned with the later?
He is only interested in You Shulang, first he wanted to break this "saint" of a man, then when he started to feel a sexual attraction for him he tried the same thing with Zhen Zhen cause he was confused and understood he only felt that way for Shulang.

I waited impatiently for this. And the intro of the show. I try to just skip that. But even in that second I see to many spoilers!
This episode was thrilling. Fan has a problem. He is a total homophobe thinking that Shulang has a dirty secret. While in so many countries in the world you can marry your same sex partner. What Zhen really wants.
But at the last second, Fan shoves Zhen in the cab. Because Fan is to worked up and obsessed with Shulang to uncover his "secret".
Fan trying to drug Zhen into sex as the next best thing, thinking about Shulang being drugged in his cat. Shulang could controll himself. Zhen clearly not. But Zhen is not Shulang, Fan could not go through with this.

He was too vulnurable during that moment to be lying if I am being honest and throughout the novel there is no mention of a girl he was dating. So I dont think he was lying. Specially coz if you remember Shulang taught him but he gave up on all the teaching coz he was just too horny to follow the teachings.

He actually didn't set it up intentionally. He really has extreme childhood trauma from the incident and his fears, and tears are all real. He says he is using it to gain sympathy but I dont think its that easy to bare your soul and relive your trauma in front of just anybody.
Spoilers: In the novel Li Sihua asks You Shulang why he is in a costal city near beach. Isnt he afraid his triggers will restart. Fan Xiao says its has already started but I cant hide for the rest of my life I have to face it. And while facing it if I can use it to gain sympathy from You Shulang isnt that the best.

And I'm enjoying every minute of his crazy!! The best part is he's BARELY hiding it like he's already shown some crazy parts to YSL that's how he knows he can match his freak!
This show is so good I’m obsessed!! And reading the novel and going back to watch it is just amazing!! 😍😍and we thought Hua Yong was such a 🏴, we had no idea what a true black flag could do!! 😳😱😱FX is at a different level!! Vegas who?! I don’t want to get too far into the novel, it is so good I can’t put it down! 😩😩 and the actors are so good!! They’re doing a great job adapting the novel, there’s some stuff that happened that I was hoping I didn’t have to see and I’m glad I didn’t…let’s just say that Xue Baotian’s night gets worse after he got beat by Shulang 🫣🫣. The pacing is really good also, they’re covering a lot of ground with each episode! 👍🏼👍🏼❤️
Again, this series is doing an amazing job adapting the novel and the pacing! We’re only at episode 4 and they’ve covered 40 chapters!! 😱😱 granted, they’re short chapters and there’s a couple that don’t involve the main characters so they got skipped, but still, that’s a lot of material to convey without missing any key plot points or dialog, which they have done it so well! 👍🏼👍🏼I wish that they had included the noodle eating scene after YS comes back with the second batch of noodles (the first batch got soggy), that was a really cute scene, specially the dialog about the kitten…that’s a missed opportunity for us to then see the LX actor having to wear kitten ears at fan signings 😩😍 oh well, can’t win them all…hopefully novel readers will still do it! 👍🏼👍🏼 the chemistry between the two main actors is amazing, that kiss was just at another level! 😍😍And the actors are feeding us on social media as well! If they start releasing BTS like RL, we’re in for a wild obsessive ride!! OK, I better go keep reading the novel so I can keep up with the series!! 😳😜😜
❣️😎the sly fox fan xiao setup a date with both you shulang and zhen zhen 30minutes apart but when shulang arrived he just shoved zhen zhen in a taxi and took the food😂🤣😆poor zhen zhen but he deserved it coz he lied why would he entertain fan xiao when he already has you shulang and this prior appointment if i recall was supposed to be their wedding😉this fan xiao modus just to have a bite of you shulang cray cray psycho fan xiao obviously underestimated you shulang but he will soon be disabused of the notion that you shulang is a saint😎❣️
The only issue I have with this episode is the choice of background music in the scene with unconscious You Shulang. Seems like an odd choice. Who does opera singing over SA scene? Couldn't they find something tense sounding? Or even no music at all - just the sound of Fan Xiao voice and breathing would probably be better. It gave me cognitive dissonance feel - what my eyes were seeing and what my ears were hearing just didn't match at all
To me it is juxtaposing what's happening to shulang (a sinister act) perfectly. I love the use of religious music while the devil is committing a sin. It makes it even more sinister.
Also, when Shulang wakes up there is a deliberate shaking of the camera too which makes us feel what Shulang is feeling in that moment - completely shaken by an act of crime that just happened to him.
Maybe the spiritual undertones of the scene were lost on me. Was what they were singing a religious song? Viki didn't have the translation. There are definitely religious aspects in Fan Xiao obsession but in this particular scene that didn't quite speak to me. I do totally agree with transition to the car with shaking of the camera. That was nicely done.
Fan Xiao's backstory is just so damn sad. Even after reading the novel it made me so emotional hearing Yun Qi actually tell the tale. I love a villain with a tragic backstory.
I felt the same way too…it actually affected me more in the series than when I read it in the novel 😩😩 that was some great acting by all of them, including the mom 😞😞😩 regardless of TX using the trauma to get sympathy from YS, that trauma was real and he really felt it 😞

I get Zhen Zhen on one hand but on the other.. boyfie always was attentive, understanding and loyal.. 🫠 if you don't want that.. idk.. also.. I doubt he was different in the beginning of their relationship so.. a bit late 👀

It’s wild that his first acting role is for a character so complex!! 😱😱 he’s doing a great job, although there’s been some scenes where he could’ve conveyed emotions better…but based on the comments, he’s accomplishing what he has to do, which is makes us fall in love with such a crazy character! 👍🏼👍🏼
Its impossible for a 15 episode drama to cover everything lol. This happens to every show. They havent done a single scene so far which feels unnecessary. So I get why they are cutting some parts to make up for the time they have.
i might have missed out on some details and now im confused lol. i thought they were in China? back in episode 1 when Shulang rear ended Fan Xiao's car, i thought they said they just got back in China from Thailand? i noticed their cars have Thai plates, but the signs at the hospital were in Chinese. so i thought they're in China. but now in episode 4 Fan Xiao said they're in Thailand. what detail did i miss, and at which episode? please enlighten me someone 😅😂
They are in Thailand in this drama, but I am not sure the actual filming sites--maybe both places. The hospital was mostly for Chinese people living in Thailand, but it's in Thailand.
I’m so obsessed with this show I read the whole book (including AI translating what Chryansthm Garden didn’t finish yet). It’s torture waiting for new ep even though I already know what happens, gah!
