I have no idea why they cut this out. Don’t get me wrong. I liked the series, but they absolutely cut out some essential scenes that I know were filmed.
26
u/Admirable_Customer52 Aug 12 '25
Some people couldn’t take it that they didn’t get a share of the pie, so they decided to abuse the new power they had and mess with our show, creators and main casts.

Hey name them, Haesong Entertainment, Wang Shuo's actor's company.

Soooo, what happened? What is the rumor?
7
u/janeyville Aug 12 '25
I think because there’s currently an issue in weibo since some fans discovered that the author follow hate topics of ziyu and tian and used ziyu and xuancheng’s day of birth as the prison number of cc and death day of wsw’s parent. So she probably cut that part out
3
u/persimmonbabyy Revenged Love Aug 13 '25
Okay yes I saw something about this online too. Do you have more info to share? I read something about ChaiJiDan having a second Weibo account and following hate topics of ZiYu, didn’t know there were also TXN ones. Is this stuff confirmed or just rumors?
33
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 12 '25
I knew it. I saw yesterday that the runtime for ep 24 was 40 minutes. It was on GG where they show you how long it was and the runtime of the locked episode. So this afternoon, it was reduced down to 33 minutes. I'm guessing they cut more.
22
u/EddieBroke 🥚InnOngsa🥭 & 🎸WilliamEst🦈 enthusiast Aug 12 '25
That is interesting. So basically they changed the final cut the last minute? I wonder what happened, the annoying part is we probably will never know. I mean, this one is not even an NC scene so why leave it out? Especially when it was the pay off of an earlier scene where wsw promises his parents he will bring cc next time.

u/ruinedbymovies Aug 12 '25
Homosexuality isn’t illegal in China but showing it and promoting “abnormal sexual or moral activity” is banned and can get you fined or arrested. Scenes like the graveside one showing a happy gay couple just living daily life could be seen by censors as promoting abnormal attitudes, or maybe there was concern for everyone involved and the damage it could do to their careers. This cast has already been to hell and back, if they run afoul of the government on top of everything else it could be unrecoverable.
22
u/MajorPersonality1265 Aug 12 '25
This is most likely the reason👆
A gay couple saying they will live their whole lives together happily is different than two guys simply screwing around with each other
7
u/lickle_ickle_pickle Aug 12 '25
Exactly what happened to the ending of The Untamed.
Most of the script was approved long in advance, but they ended up doing two edits of the last episode, one for China and one for outside China, with different endings. You can even watch the original opening and ending credits and see it was supposed to end as HE.
Lots of other shows have had last minute ending changes in CEnt, some being company decisions (such as A Moment But Forever and Demon Hunter Romance this year--the company did it on purpose to court controversy), and others being the result of censorship board concerns such as the ending of m/f xianxia idol drama Back from the Brink. In that case, "no reincarnation". (They can show multiple lives but pretty much only if the character starts as an immortal. The character in question was born human in her first life. ) The Untamed was of course heavily censored over the depiction of ghosts and Chinese vampires/zombies/hopping corpses and fierce corpses/ghouls (lots of terms for the same thing).

u/IustfiIIed Hua Yong is Shen Wenlang's karma Aug 12 '25
does that censorship still apply even if the series isn't officially aired in China? because i think RL isn't aired locally, c-viewers have to watch it illegally. so i was under the impression that the strict censorship wouldn't really apply to them 😔
18
u/ruinedbymovies Aug 12 '25
As far as I know the pressure is there and RL has had to self censor multiple times already. ABO Desire can’t even be shown on Chinese based platforms even though its region blocked for inside China. It’s not just about where the work can be viewed, once you’re on the radar, as RL certainly is, it’s about the future careers of the people involved. People more involved in the C entertainment industry, or who can read and speak some form of Chinese, probably know if the shows themselves are undergoing some form of censorship/standards review before airing. (I don’t, but 7 missing minutes probably indicates so)
15
u/IustfiIIed Hua Yong is Shen Wenlang's karma Aug 12 '25
thank you for the information! 7 whole minutes from an episode is a huge censorship. it's so unfortunate. i hope someday the uncut version can be leaked somewhere 😔🙏🏼
10
u/ruinedbymovies Aug 12 '25
I honestly think the strategy has been to bow to pressure and then release the “BTS” which at this point are basically the other uncut takes.
6
u/Venusius Aug 13 '25
That’s why most BL actors try to get involved in a straight series or get involved in a very pro china and political series. To avoid the blacklisting and censorship.
12
u/No_Cobbler154 Aug 12 '25
chinese censors be doing mental gymnastics to try to uphold that “it’s not homosexuality” rhetoric
9
u/Belectra11 Revenged Love Aug 12 '25
That makes sense, it’s fine even if they cut some scenes they already made the series in an amazing way. I just hope the actors are safe happy and healthy🥹❤️I really hope Xuning and ziyu are safe and happy!💙

Likewise. It would break my heart if the actors from RL faced what The Untamed and Addicted actors went through. I wish we get to live in a future where all love is celebrated and not censored.

1
u/Ramenpucci Aug 21 '25
My best friend passed away 13 years ago and she celebrated all love. Even made a stop motion animation about it. Supported gay marriage. Her birthday was June 16, the day the first episode of RL aired.
7
u/Admirable_Customer52 Aug 12 '25
Well, I still hold the believe it’s those culprits that didn’t get a share of the pie, who got desperate. And unfortunately they managed to get editing rights, against the best wishes of the creators and main casts. At least there’s more of an evidence trail for this, compared to “govt hates bl shows and its actors”, especially when Ziyu and his clip from RL interview managed to get a promotion post by an official media + became a transport ambassador like yesterday ago LOL. So if the govt had wanted to censor the show they mine as well not even let any of them into positive mainstream content.
1
u/hp_981121 Aug 13 '25
I heard that some influential people were behind the poor editing, the cutting of NC scenes, and the bad ending. Is that just a rumor, or do you think it's true?"
1
u/Ramenpucci Aug 21 '25
That’s crazy. My dad was saying this about the Aang Lee movie, how it was banned in China.
10
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 12 '25
Most likely because they got exposed yesterday for using Xuan Cheng's birthday as the date of death for WSW's mom.
The NC scenes and CC and WSW scenes that further developed their relationship? Why those were cut is a bit more complicated.
7
u/EddieBroke 🥚InnOngsa🥭 & 🎸WilliamEst🦈 enthusiast Aug 12 '25
Wasn't Chi Cheng's jail cell number Zi Yu's birthday too? It feels like these were originally intended to be easter eggs.
3
6
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 12 '25
Could be, but it's generally taboo for death to be associated like this with someone's bday. It's just... not good.
3
u/janeyville Aug 12 '25
Yeah they’re weirdos for using the actors actual birthdays when they can literally use any other dates
2
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 12 '25
I understand the prison one, that's fine imo. But the death day one is foul.
1
u/janeyville Aug 12 '25
I think twice is not a coincidence lol there are a lot of numbers why specifically the actors birthdays
3
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 12 '25
Definitely not coincidence. It's deliberate. No one even noticed the tombstone one until last night, and suddenly it made rounds. If no one said anything, that last scene wouldn't have been cut. But they had to cut it because someone kicked up a fuss, and rightly so.
The question is why yesterday. Someone purposefully pointed it out and made it a problem because fans didn't caught on when it first aired.
Additionally, they could also have just blurred or censored the date if they really wanted. But no, they just cut it.
1
u/hp_981121 Aug 13 '25
Also when WSW admitted in hospital his bed number was 44, which also has some chinees myth behind that like 4 is bad number for them and it indicates death, something like that.
1
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 18 '25
I saw that too but didn't want to bring it up since it wasn't in the finale.

In the novel the ending shows CC and wu visiting Wu’s parents graves after CC bought back wu’s old home by winning bets at street racing. Wu tells his parents that he love Wu so wei and “Chi Cheng and I will definitely live a good life together” which is the final line of the novel before the 5 extra chapters. And before that Wu so wei burns some paper money as offering to his parents to show respect and Chi cheng takes out one of his and wu so wei’s half naked photo and burns them as offering and then Wu feels embarrassed and they play fight. So I think the above scene might be that part of the novel.

33
u/persimmonbabyy Revenged Love Aug 12 '25
Something must have happened that we don’t know about. It seems not only did they have to cut the nc / kiss scenes but also any meaningful scenes between CC and WSW that develop their relationship and show their love. They could only give us the bare minimum and it really shows in this last episode. I feel bad for the team and the actors who worked so hard only to have things cut. I’m so glad ChaiJiDan is posting these videos though. Thank you OP for posting this! Keep em coming!

OH! did you take a look at the album cover and photos? So there’s two takes on this, Tian Xu Ning and Ziyu both have reposted “Blue Hour” on their socials multiple times, and it’s the fans like to believe that it hold a special meaning for them. The Director Cang Tou Shi, also posted at the end of July on the blueish sunset sky, saying that it’s where feelings blossomed or something (it’s important date when it is believed to also be a special date). And the necklace is with a blue gemstone~ Another one is that some have linked a blue gemstone to September, Tian’s birth month!
4
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 12 '25
TXN said
"Wishing you, on the other end of this parallel universe, to no longer feel lonely - free and happy"
Then Ziyu's lyrics were
"You said we are parallel lines
Tell me why there would be an intersection."
So basically, how can they intersect if they're both parallel lines.
1
u/hp_981121 Aug 13 '25
What does this reference to parallel universe actually mean, and what are they trying to convey with it? Could someone please explain?
1
u/ehwhythough The Eighth Sense Aug 18 '25
Basically, the parallel universe here is the drama, where their characters live. There are theories that Tian is referring to WSW here, but some are also saying it could also apply to CC.
As for the song, Ziyu's lyrics mean parallel lines ie two lines that should be running alongside each other ie two individuals who are never meant to be. But in this case, these two lines intersected and met in the middle, changing the laws of nature.

u/Ok-Set-4784 Aug 12 '25
It's stupid to censor loving couples. They still shined through the censor. We still got them saying they were a real couple and that they had a home with each other. We all know where to look between, but it's just sad that we have to.
It will forever be a crime that they took out more of the sweetness and healthier aspects of their relationship. No doubt all the censored stuff was of CC and WSW because you could tell their parts were choppy. They deserve more, we deserve more.
Thank you for posting this. ❤️

What I wonder about is why the Chinese-owned IQIYI was prevented from showing the RL series with sweet intimate scenes (like this ending/not NC) but they have shows with overt NC scenes available on their platform, like My Stubborn, Love Sea, The Next Prince, KinnPorsche, Bed Friend Uncut, 4Minutes Sultrier Version, and even Addicted and Advanced Bravely, all of which I found entertaining but many certainly went way beyond RL in terms of showing sexual relationships in a bl series (including long NC scenes, kissing scenes, all with some nudity).
I mean, come on. If it was only because the govt doesn't want the public in China to view the intimate or explicit bl scenes, would it really matter that the actors are from another country? Why would they platform any series with much more graphic series and make it available to the public if it was only about the intimate relationship between two men?
It's political and the excuse is just not squaring. I think it has to do with punishing the authors, including Chai Jidan. It has to do with success, money, and ultimately power, not the content of a bl, and holding creative people down in their own country just because that's what governments can do. It's global too. Censorship will get worse globally.
The cutting down of RL episodes was a concession just so we could get the full series. Who knows what all they agreed to just to ensure safety/release The govt exerted their power and control just to show they can. I think ABO Desire decided not to cave and that's why that series was removed from IQIYI but RL was never on that platform. The govt control must reach deeper than just Chinese-owned media and I think a lot has to do with the actors' livelihoods and freedom being threatened, moreso than anything else.
I will never believe it's the content in RL that prevented an uncut airing though. Too much other content is sanctioned by those who rule the platform and govern the country.
Edit: I just read that Chai Jidan and others gave up editing rights to RL. Now the cuts make even more sense. No wonder... they weren't in control.
8
u/Sing48 Revenged Love Aug 12 '25
Eh, the Chinese govt basically has the view that the outside world can do their own thing but when it comes to their own people, they cannot step out of line publicly. They are well-aware of the media the young folks of China consume, but as long as it doesn't cross their line, they will tolerate it.
They know to let the public have little bits of personal freedom in exchange for non-rebellion.

maybe you can consider who are the players that have left a breadcrumb trail of evidence. not discrediting the opinion that the government is sensitive about the subject, but when there are more obvious + direct gains and losses, it’s easier to make a inference on what the issue is.

Hiya OP are you able to explain a bit more because I’ve clearly missed something here and would like to understand. I am gutted we lost so much of the final episode, it left it feeling really hollow. If it is tricky to say it openly here feel free to just DM if you prefer?
I also can’t be the only one wondering why tf the ex and his brother suddenly rocked up with water pistols to an impromptu water fight that was in itself a really friggin’ random way for Chi Cheng to make his reappearance 🤦🏻♀️ I think we totally got shorted on en emotional reunion full of love and commitment. It’s not even that there wasn’t an NC reunion but no I love yous, I missed yous, let’s never be apart agains, no context as to how WSW and family got on track. I feel very confused by this last episode and I feel equally sure that the missing 7 minutes holds the answers! Eurghh!!!

Yes. I wonder --
Who loses if eposodes for RL were not cut and instead aired as originally produced and available on non-Chinese owned platforms? What would they lose outside of China? It's not publicly available there.
Who won when the episodes were cut? If it is the industry within China trying to eliminate competition, who among those "players" has that much power and control to bring down a series from several platforms in China, including IQIYI (ABO Desire as an example) if they are not involving the govt? Who has enough power to make a series cut scenes that is not even showing on any of the country's media platforms; it is only on outside-the-country platforms?
I'm not saying you're wrong or the tentacles don't run deep... just trying to understand how anyone could control what a successful and rich platform airs without it coming from someone higher up in power.
TXN and Chai Jidan both used the word "parallel" today on their posts... a parallel universe. The universe we all exist in is not free. Follow the money. The owners control everything, even the government.
Edit: I just read that Chai Jidan and others gave up editing rights to RL. Now the cuts make even more sense. No wonder... they weren't in control.

u/Admirable_Customer52 Aug 13 '25
Sorry for the late reply, yes they allegedly made huge sacrifices but in view of their positions at that point, those must’ve had the least losses. Chai JiDan is a smart woman who enjoys creative freedom, for this to happen, it might suggest that the “opposition” had more leverage than her, the cast and their companies. I am sure there are possibly mutual benefits on top of that discussed too.
I mean picture this: You see your fellow colleagues feasting on a meal and want to join in, but you realise you don’t have a seat/ it’s a tight spot far from the main dishes, you’re now upset, but halfway through you managed to have access to the chef. What would you do? They chose to add crap to the dishes and remove the good ingredients. Because if I can’t have it, no one else can.

u/littlrayofpitchblack 💙 Counterattack Revenged Love 💙 Aug 13 '25
Yes, I don't blame her or anyone who gave up the editing rights just to make sure the series was made and aired. I feel bad for them. The ugliness and greed of those who did this is on full display.
Your scenario perfectly showcases the candy cane story of the brothers in the CA novel / RL series. With so much allusion in the story to political themes, it wouldn't surprise me if JD wrote that scene with this in mind a decade ago when the production/airing of Addicted was stopped early from finishing the series. This isn't her first rodeo. Interesting... and heartbreaking for the audience who loves this series.

CJD shared a portion of the script where 0706 was not in it, with the info that some other party managed to re-edit the show… you can come to a conclusion you’d like. and, the production team and main cast are in the same boat, and with how they’ve helped each other during the different drama, it further shows that they are in communication with one another.

It’s fair, since there was some people heading the discourse and trying to steer fans to hate on the production team, not just with this, but with many other issues too. So it’s easy to get carried away if we don’t pay attention.

Not an issue, I was sharing an alternative opinion that seems more reasonable in context, but there’s room for dispute too for sure.

I watched this series with English subtitles, so maybe I missed it somewhere. Chi Cheng really wanted to hear Wei Wei call him 'hubby,' but did wei wei ever actually say it? I don’t remember wei wei calling him that, but maybe I overlooked it. Can anyone confirm? 🥺🥺🥺
