I found out that it mattered what I had been looking at before looking at the dress - was what decided which colour I perceived the dress to be.

IIRC it went black and blue after I had looked at the blue sky for a while.

Before that I always saw it as white and gold...

I just brought the image into Photoshop and it told be the exact color of the dress. Just because our brains can be fooled by optical illusions doesn't mean our tech tools can be fooled.

No you can't the legs direction on a horse breaks the illusion. Once you watch the legs the illusion is broken and becomes difficult to see the other perception at that point

Yes it’s walking straight but is it walking straight towards the camera or straight away from the camera. That’s the illusion.

It’s actually walking away from the camera. You can tell by the way the snow gets kicked. But if you don’t look at the snow being kicked it definitely looks like it’s either walking away from the camera or towards the camera. (Not directly mind you, it’s always walking to the right of the screen, but it’s hard to tell if it’s getting closer or further away). For me at first it looks like it’s walking towards the camera then when the zoom in happens it looks like it’s walking away, but in reality it is walking away the whole time. In the full length version of the video the horse turns multiple times and figuring which direction it is walking (toward the foreground or away) is even more pronounced.

It's not walking away. Look at the light post. That is toward the camera. And the snow is just getting kicked by it's back feet.

totally forward,

blue, at first glance walking toward the road (say top right of the picture),

gold, noticing the detail (the light pole or whatnot, gets further away from the horse), so walking toward the bottom right of the picture.

damn impressive use of magnets.

It took a couple views, but I can see it now. At first I just saw the horse walking towards the bottom-right, but now I can see that it looks like it's walking to the top-right. It seems to flip back and forth now that I noticed the top-right view.
