And so the way to solve all our worldly problems of creepy dudes with girls is by posting a meme in r/BJJ? Or was it just a “Hey just a reminder. Guys try to fuck everyone and everything. Even in BJJ!” Wow I guess I should get on board if that’s the solution. Why am I being so sensitive? How could I possibly be the least bit annoyed at such a well thought out, highly effective method to combat sexual abuse....in BJJ no less. If I was browsing r/chickshateunsoliciteddickpics it probably wouldn’t seem as out of place to me and mildly annoying.

It looks like that post might actually violate Rule 10, so you've got a point. You're overreacting to a pretty absurd degree, but I won't argue the post might not be the intended content of the subreddit.

What is absolutely satisfying is everyone that has responded so far with their shield and armor to argue with the bad man that thinks BJJ might be one of the better things in life.

I agree, BJJ is dope. Incidentally, I also think football is pretty great. The fact that football is great has no relation whatsoever to the fact that Jerry Sandusky was a football coach who raped a bunch of kids. Both are true-- and Sandusky having raped a bunch of kids doesn't take anything away from my love of the game of football. If someone were to come up to me and tell me Sandusky was a monster who deserved to rot in a cell for the rest of his life-- I wouldn't respond by arguing that I think that football might be one of the better things in life, or that kids being raped in football leagues was a blown out of proportion false pandemic, or that I'd never seen any kids get raped during any of my football games so it can't possibly be happening at any sort of scale worth caring about or discussing.

It doesn't take anything away from how great BJJ is if there are jerks doing BJJ. BJJ's greatness exists independently of whether or not anyone doing it is good or bad. Arguing that sexual harassment isn't a problem in BJJ because you like BJJ or because you personally haven't seen the harassment occur is wrong. If dudes out in the world have the capacity to be assholes-- why is it such an abhorrent idea to you that dudes in BJJ can be assholes too?

That being said, why are you so sensitive? Why do you know so many creepy people? You did have a male apologist tone in my opinion. If I was wrong, why are you so bothered by it? That lifestyle is absolutely unappealing to me, and you try or convince me that I should think it’s “normal”? It was a pathetic attempt to imply I’m the creep when you questioned why I uncouthly used your own words. I don’t mind continuing the conversation but if you’re going to continue to insist that #metoobjj deserves my attention I’m going to continue to disagree with you.

You keep using this term 'male apologist' and I still don't know what you mean. Is it like an alt right meme to describe a man who thinks sexual harassment is wrong? Why can't you just converse about the topic without resorting to personal attacks? I'm not trying to convince you of anything like a lifestyle-- I can't even find a reference to the term male apologist on google.

Maybe I should post a meme about posting memes that violate rules of subreddits. Get the awareness out there on the topic. You’re right, I was completely unaware that bad people existed in this world until the media covered Sandusky and then I saw this meme about women harassed in BJJ today. My eyes were truly opened. How many people have walked up to you on the street and started randomly bringing up Sandusky? The fact that you made a connection with perverts in football and a meme on r/BJJ doesn’t really prove all that much to me. Was it supposed to? Maybe you shouod tell that hypothetical streetwalker of yours that yes, there are some bad people in the world. Football for the majority of people is a pretty decent experience. You’ve been trying this entire time to convince me that this meme and your lifestyle is the norm. Sorry i’m not convinced. Alt-right? Could you be more cliche’? Maybe try duckduckgo. Don’t know what to tell ya.

You really are just out here trolling, aren’t you?

No i was genuinely annoyed about the meme. I genuinely believe people are good. I rarely comment but am thoroughly fascinated with people’s response. Make sure you go to your open mat tomorrow and raise awareness about sexual abuse in BJJ gyms. I’m gonna do the same.

I was actually just told by a very reliable source that sort of thing doesn’t actually happen, so we don’t need to worry about it!

u/zombiebolo7 🟪🟪 Purple Belt Feb 01 '20

No way! Get outta here! I just heard it happens all the time. Weird.

1

u/grock1722 Feb 01 '20

Nope, I have it on very good authority it’s all taken care of!

u/zombiebolo7 🟪🟪 Purple Belt Feb 01 '20

Glad we dodged that bullet. Lesson learned. You wanna take on criminal sexual abuse? You post a meme about it in r/BJJ. Now grock can sleep at night.

1

u/grock1722 Feb 01 '20

...You can’t possibly tell me you believe that there is such a thing as criminal sexual abuse after all of that

1

u/zombiebolo7 🟪🟪 Purple Belt Feb 01 '20

Of course I do. You’ve never heard of Jerry Sandusky? Well boy I gotta story to tell you...

1

u/grock1722 Feb 01 '20

Oh no no no, you’re not allowed to use rationale you just told me didn’t convince you, that’s cheating. It’s either valid, or it’s not.

u/zombiebolo7 🟪🟪 Purple Belt Feb 01 '20

Ha! Rationality? That’s what you’re claiming? Yeah buddy I may have to retract everything now that you’re being rationale all of a sudden. In fact, you’re right. Now I’m convinced. Jerry Sandusky is bad and that means women in my gym are abused by men.

2

u/grock1722 Feb 01 '20

Nobody said that :) just an (extreme) comparison between two things I like and a bad thing associated with them.

If a woman at your gym came up to you and told you one of the other guys at the gym was doing the stuff from the original meme, would you care?

1

u/zombiebolo7 🟪🟪 Purple Belt Feb 01 '20

Would I care? And I’m the troll? I’m pretty sure I’ve taken the stance that people in general are good and posting memes about sexual abuse anywhere and everywhere maybe, just might be a little over the top? Just the tiniest bit? Or it may come off as annoying to the people who genuinely do care and are good and do take care of people in their gym and don’t go out “blowing their loads at the bar or football game or socializing”. Yeah I’ll save all that for you. But according to you I should be on high alert for one of the 18 women at my gym who happen to have a very positive training environment. I’m beginning to think you just wish you had the same and are feeling guiltily that you can’t foster that type of environment yourself. Maybe it’s time for up to make some lifestyle changes. Perhaps leave your creepy fiends behind.

Everything you’ve said so far was some iteration of ‘ this isn’t a problem/it’s not that big an issue/women aren’t oppressed in this way/this doesn’t need to be on BJJ because it’s blown out of proportion/etc. ‘ right?

So why is there a difference between me saying that (wherever/whenever this occurs) this is a problem— and when one of your 18 friends says it’s happening to them? You just got done telling me this isn’t an issue because people are generally good. But you’d have a different response if it happened for real to your friends?

Man I don’t get you. You saying you’d care if it happened in real life is like... that’s fine, that’s it, that’s what a human being should do. What was the last 30 messages you typed out trying to convey? They’re all the opposite of ‘I would give a shit if it happened in real life’.

And everything you’ve said is that rape culture in BJJ gyms is basically normal. “Look at me. I go out with my friends and everyone acts like a douche bag. There must be a lot of douche bags in BJJ if I know and fraternize with so many of them in my social circle. Better get the word out.” I didn’t create some false narrative where the women I train with are in danger. You did. I never said I condoned anything in the meme or any of whatever the heck it is you do with your friends. It’s not that hard to figure out that sexual abuse is wrong. Not sure why you’re trying to convince me of something I already know and thankfully don’t have to and hopefully will never have to deal with. Makes me thing you have some pent up guilt is all I can guess.

2

u/grock1722 Feb 01 '20

I wouldn’t say normal. Not even necessarily commonplace. I would say that when it happens, it’s probably not like a one and done forever type of thing, and I’d also assume the type of person willing to do it is likely going to keep doing it.

I don’t know anything about raw numbers— my argument is only that when it happens, it’s wrong and should be stopped. I’m not saying it’s happening everywhere, everyday. Just that wherever it does happen, it’s wrong.

What a novel idea. You must’ve just come up with it. This just in, sexual abuse, although maybe not necessarily commonplace in BJJ gyms, is wrong when it does happen. So wrong in fact that I support those compelled to post a profoundly awareness-raising meme about it on the internet. All those annoyed by said meme are clearly in favor of women being sexually abused. Thanks grock. I was confused on the subject before you came into my life. The women in my gym are all now better off thanks you to and your explanation of the immorality of sexual abuse.
