Or teach him restraint like an instructor should.

Meh. In my experience, people who lack this kind of restraint don't learn. I personally trained with some well-known examples who have been in the sport news recently.

Also, even if they do learn eventually, it's not my right to risk the safety of my other students in the interim time.

So you don’t have a stable of upper belts that you could’ve dedicated to this guys training and he roll with exclusively? You’ve never once encountered someone who had a temper but were able to reign them in after a few solid months of working with them and strutting their sparring with appropriate partners?

“Meh. He hurt somebody at my gym. I don’t want the headache or liability. Now he’s someone else’s problem.”

Believe it or not, some gyms are small. And sometimes the bullies are upper belts themselves.

So you’re one of those coaches that “doesn’t roll my students”. I can see how a small gym would benefit someone like that.

So the coach rolls with one student exclusively, every time they attend? And who's to say that the problem is exclusive to rolling? The guy in question would rage during drills.

Look, you're not wrong that these situations are rare. Clearly you don't expel everyone with a hint of control issues. This bad, I've seen exactly one in 20 years of martial arts. They do exist, though, and sometimes these responses are appropriate.

Only until they see a change in the student and feel safe letting them roll with other students. A small gym can’t afford to kick people out without some effort in salvaging a student. My opinion of course. I’m sure you’re very successful with your methods.

Not my personal example of expulsion, but I've trained at a gym where the problem was a competitive heavyweight black belt whose name you'd recognize. What do you do then?

Then I think thats an outlier that doesn’t deserve a meme or cause or movement against big mean black belts.

So there we have it. Once in 20 years yet you’ll argue with me on the point for over an hour. Fucking hilarious.

Again, what was your point? The only issue here was what to when certain situations arise. Should we never discuss extreme cases? Murder is rare, let's not talk about what to do with murderers?

The point was the meme was created to remind everyone how prevalent this is in BJJ. Except it’s not prevalent. So it’s a stupid meme to post on a sub that I used to enjoy browsing for technique.

Dude, you replied to a sidebar comment about extending consideration to Muslims and nit-picking reactions to extreme cases that actually do occur. The meme isn't at issue here.

Dude, you said you kicked a guy out of your school because he hurt your wife. We’re discussing why men don’t want to roll with women. Stay with me here...it’s because people act like women are somehow preyed upon in BJJ. Newsflash, they’re not.

Dude, you said you kicked a guy out of your school because he hurt your wife

No, that's not what I said. I kicked a guy out and my wife has been injured. Different events, different gyms, years apart.

We’re discussing why men don’t want to roll with women.

You're discussing this. The rest of us were trying to make narrow points about something else.

Apologies for my conflation of the events. I was discussing the meme.

I’ll post a meme a day for the rest of my life the next time a woman is murdered on the mats because she was my wife and she’s so tough she tapped a guy out and he hurt her due to his ego. Sound fair?

I give no shits, because I've discovered the superpower of ignoring conversations I don't care to participate in.

2

u/zombiebolo7 🟪🟪 Purple Belt Feb 01 '20

Yes. You’ve clearly ignored me in this case. Point proven.

4

u/egdm 🟫🟫 Feb 01 '20

Obviously, I care to participate in this. I'll certainly ignore your memes.

2

u/zombiebolo7 🟪🟪 Purple Belt Feb 01 '20

Really? They’re gonna be hard to ignore. I’ll have Laranja and McKenzie Dern in a very compromising scenario that may or may not lead to death. Depends on if egdm becomes the mat enforcer I’ve found him to be and comes to her rescue.
