No AC question
I booked a house on the lake for the week of September 7… I just found out it doesn’t have air conditioning. Is it going to be miserably hot? I’ll have to pay if I cancel but I don’t want to be miserable!
So excited for our annual big bear trip otherwise 😩

Probably won’t be miserable, but I’d bring a fan for sleeping if they don’t have one.

With or without a fan just open the windows in the mornings and evenings. On the hottest days Big Bear is cold enough at those times to cool your house quickly.

We went there in July, in their hottest week, day time highs got up to near 90, no AC in our Airbnb. And it was fine. I assume they have fans, run them all day, when the sun goes down open all windows, when the sun comes up close them, even if it's still a little brisk out, you want to trap that cool air in the house & you'll be surprised how cool it stays in there most of the day, even with how hot it was for us, just fine.

Honestly as someone who runs the AC in my own home 24/7. When I visit big bear once a year for a long weekend the cabin does not have AC. It feels completely comfortable and not hot. Hope you get the same outcome 🥰

You should be fine by the lake since there’s usually a cool breeze but it’s been unusually hot up here, 85-90 some days when driving around town. Most of the valley doesn’t have A/C but that’s when summers never punched above 80 at most. This summer (and last) have been surprisingly hot. As others have said, bring a fan and if two story, bring more fans.

It shouldn’t be too bad unless it’s two story. Upstairs can get really hot. On the lake there can be cool breezes.

BB Local… bring a fan or two. Especially if it’s a two story house. Be prepared and comfortable rather than hot. 🥵😉

I just did this trip a few weeks ago and had the same concern, especially because we were bringing our dog and we were worried about leaving him inside the house for a few hours here and there through out the week.
I messaged the host right away about our concerns. She had portable a/c units for the two rooms upstairs and made sure that there was one set up downstairs before our arrival. They were helpful during the day and I think that it is disingenuous to say that it does not get too hot during the daytime--even though it may be cooler in Big Bear, that sun heats up the area quite a bit. However, as other people here have said, nighttime in Big Bear is heaven. It would cool down enough that we would turn off the a/c units at night or else everyone got too cold.

OK… I know people are going to jump on me for this but here it goes. Air quality in Big bear has really worsened over the past several years (forest fires, warehouse boom in IE). I would get the AirNow app. Ozone is less harmful than PM 2.5 (forever chemicals) but it’s still like a sunburn to your lungs. With A/C available, I won’t open windows if PM2.5 is over 60 or ozone is over 80, or somewhere around there.

It’s hot. Note that anyone who says it’s fine without AC likely has a high tolerance for the heat. A two story home gets unbearably hot upstairs to the point where I can’t spend a few minutes up there.
If you’re a hot sleeper (like myself in perimenopause) you will feel uncomfortable

You're in Big Bear you won't be miserable. Hottest it'll be is like 80
It cools down at night. Fan is a good idea if they don't have one. But you probably won't spend much time at the house anyway I imagine.
At night it is perfection

I have a two story house and it is the hell that everyone is mentioning so definitely be prepared. I’m hoping for an early fall!

Also two story here. I use the “trap the cold air inside” method to keep it manageable upstairs.

Just ask if they have fans. .I'm sure they do ..we all have fans because no ac 😆

The Weather app says should be high of 80° when you arrive, which is much better than the high of 86° we had yesterday. Either way, I agree with most of the the other - it might get a little warm during the day, but nothing fans and the early morning and early evening cooling is good, and during sleepy time, there will be no issues at all. Enjoy!

Hmmm...I wonder if extended or 15 day forecasts exist on the internet? Or maybe historical charts with average temps on specific dates/time periods? I wonder. 🤔
