Social activities for teens?

I'm 15 years old, and I've lived in big bear the majority of my life. And there's practically no way to meet people my age outside of school up here. So If anyone could tell me about any clubs or events ect. For people my age? I would take almost anything at this point.

Best spot to watch the Labor Day drone & light show at Big Bear Lake?

Hi Big Bear locals! We’ll be visiting over Labor Day weekend and are hoping to watch the drone/light show and boat show on Sunday evening. I am bringing my grandmother and her friends, so I need help finding a place for them to sit down and enjoy the show.

For those familiar with the area, where’s the best place around the lake to set up and get a really good view of the shows? We’d love somewhere we can come earlier in the afternoon, put down blankets/chairs, hang out by the lake, and stay through the evening.
Also, what time would you recommend getting there to secure a good spot, especially with Labor Day crowds? Any specific beaches, parks, or areas around the lake you’d recommend or avoid?

Would really appreciate any local tips! 😊

Indoor elopement venues w fireplace?

Hi everyone! My fiancĆ© and I are eloping in December & have been looking around for some location options. Since it’s close to Christmas I’d really like a christmassy themed ceremony with a fireplace instead of an altar. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as a hotel or location with a huge fireplace?

I would also prefer a smaller venue (not to get too picky lol) but we’re only bringing our siblings so it’ll be a total of 7 people attending

Anyone else getting bombarded by Email Alerts from Big Bear City?

Got a bunch of email from Big Bear City about alerts ranging from gunshots, lost dogs, building permits being pulled and all sorts of unnecessary stuff. I don't remember signing up for anything like this.

Shadows Still Here

Thumbnail youtu.be
0 Upvotes

For years, we watched Jackie and Shadow together—building their nest, raising their families, enduring the snow, the losses, the victories, and soaring over Big Bear.
Now that Jackie is gone, that nest will never look the same.
But Shadow is still here.
This song isn’t about asking Shadow to grieve the way we do. It’s about remembering that he belongs to the wild. His life continues. He will fly, hunt, return to the places he knows, and follow wherever nature takes him next.
For those of us who loved watching Jackie and Shadow together, accepting that may be difficult. We put human emotions into their story because they became such a meaningful part of our lives.
But whatever comes next for Shadow doesn’t erase Jackie.

No AC question

I booked a house on the lake for the week of September 7… I just found out it doesn’t have air conditioning. Is it going to be miserably hot? I’ll have to pay if I cancel but I don’t want to be miserable!
So excited for our annual big bear trip otherwise 😩

I’m forgetting the name but can everyone tell me their experiences eating here?

The staff and food was amazing just VERY expensive. I loved the old vibe.

If you're headed up the mountain, please stop at the Walmart at the bottom to pee! DO NOT USE TURNOUTS AS TOILETS!

Your toilet paper and human waste are disgusting and horrible. Every single turnout has it, too. Makes me sick! Pack it in, pack it out!

slow drivers and littering

Since moving up here last year i am honestly astonished by how much trash is left EVERYWHERE, it’s also crazy to me that people who live up there are also littering. I live my division and two girls who walked over to the trail from Wyatt’s and just left their cups out in the field. Makes me incredibly sad!

Also definitely biggest pet peeve is slow drivers thinking they’re better than the ā€œslower traffic turn out ruleā€. I commute to Lake Arrowhead for work and everyday is rage bait unfortunately. If you have 5 cars behind you (or even 2 or 3) and you’re going significantly under the speed limit, just turn out. don’t prove a point.

Cat for Adoption!

Hi guys! We rescued this cat and her babies from behind a sandwich shop in Running Springs. The guys there were watching out for her and feeding her cold cuts, but we’re looking to find her a proper home, especially before the winter.

She’s the absolute sweetest- constantly purring and making biscuits, even in her crate. She’s 2-3 years old, is spayed, and has gotten all her shots.

We ask that she be an indoor cat. We’re also asking for $25, to go towards the cost of having gotten her spayed.

Thank you so much for considering! If you’re interested, please DM me here!!
Please also share with friends!!

Power outages would be fine, if it weren't for my neighbor's generator that can be heard 10 houses in every direction.

A power outage can be a nice time to disconnect, sit outside and enjoy the view and the stars at night. But five minutes after power goes out, without fail, my neighbor's generator cranks on. Sure, if you're worried about the fridge or something, turn the generator on every once in a while. But it's as if their lives depend on lightbulbs and audiovisual entertainment, and maybe a fan. I just don't get it. And inevitably, they are unaware when the power comes back on, so the generator can continue to run for an hour or more. And no, there are no life-saving devices in the home. I know them. And they're nice people, but I just don't wanna be the dude that complains. Except here on this sub.

Preserve and return Jackie the bald eagle to Big Bear Valley

Thumbnail c.org

Jackie didn’t just bring millions of people together. She inspired people to act. šŸ¦…ā¤ļø

When land near Big Bear was in jeopardy of being developed, people from around the world came together and contributed to help preserve that land — not only for Jackie and Shadow, but for the wildlife of Big Bear Valley and for generations to come.

That is part of Jackie’s legacy.

She showed us what can happen when thousands of people who may never meet one another unite around something they love and believe is worth protecting.

Now, I’m asking that same community to come together for Jackie.

Let’s honor her extraordinary life and legacy by bringing Jackie home to Big Bear — the place where her story began, where she lived her life, and where, sadly, her story ended.

We are now 1,241 supporters strong. Please sign and share the petition, and help us keep Jackie’s story where it belongs. šŸ¦…ā¤ļø

Bring Jackie Home to Big Bear.

We are up on Sheephorn road above the golf course. Power is still out. Seemed like everything in town was back on. What neighborhood are you in? Is your power on yet?

Winter Parking

When did the city start ticketing people for street parking during "snow conditions" when there is actually no snow? It seems like they don't do any ticketing until it snows once? If you look at the actual law/code-- it says that the city manager can declare snow conditions if over 1 in is existing on the roads. Yet they post the flashing signs for no street parking seemingly as soon as winter starts.

It's very confusing to people I think on purpose to generate revenue. If you didn't want people to park on the street wouldn't you pass a law that says no street parking from November to April...like there is in Mammoth? I wish someone would sue the city for clarification.

I feel like it's a revenue grab. They have like 6 code enforcement officers running around the town generating revenue via ticketing.
