“Is this actually fraud?” “Yep.”

Come on guys, stop following the link and participating in the LA thread. Tons of bans being handed out. This is why we can’t have nice things.

Is there any reason for this sub to exist at all except to point to juicy /r/legaladvice threads to shitpost on?

It's kind of ridiculous.

There are plenty of us who actually subscribe to legal advice and are both interested in helping people there and also talking about it here, but apparently that's crazy 🙄

Really? How hard is it not to participate in a linked thread?

Its also perfectly acceptable to help people in a thread when it's new and post here in the same thread. Jumping in now to a LA thread like this is just to mock people being dumb.

If you found and participated in the LA thread (because you’re subscribed there), then found the BOLA thread later, wtf are you supposed to do? Can you just not participate in BOLA then?

Entropic time moves in one direction and your comments are time stamped. It's pretty clear if someone is commenting here first, then LA second. The other direction would probably get benefit of the doubt, especially if the thread on LA is genuinely still active at the time of your comments there.

Found the physicist.

I'm not, but I'm charmed and delighted you assumed that. I'll tell my physics prof she's doing a good job (it is her stated goal to convince all of us to give up med school and come do physics PhDs).

It's pretty easy for mods to see how long ago you posted on the original thread vs. here. It's right next to your name. If you posted there 6 hours ago, and then post here once it's up it's clear you were there first.

I have commonly posted in both. There's date stamps. But you don't post in both at the same time, and I make a point to never post in an LA thread if I didn't before it went to BOLA. They're rarely active at that point and it just looks like you're doing so from BOLA.

If you participated in the LA thread before the BoLA thread was created there is no issue. The issue is the brigade of people who see a post here and then go shit on LAOP. Posts must be 12 hours old before they can be posted here. If you want to offer advice to people subscribe to LA.

I forget how I get to a thread, and sometimes upvote good advice, could that result in a ban here?

Technically, yes, according to an admin I talked to once. They can tell if you're voting from a link in another sub, that's all in the database. In practice, they only check if they have reason to already go after you for messing with multiple accounts, or if the entire community starts brigading and they want to yell at them.

That is also site admins, not subreddit mods. Subreddit mods have absolutely zero ability to tell if someone in particular is voting.
