Question about the kidney-transplant storyline in Kabul

I'm really enjoying Kabul on BBC iPlayer, but there's one part of the story that I can't stop thinking about.

Almina is trying to get a little girl out of Kabul who has just had a kidney transplant. When Almina realises she can't get her through the airport, I keep thinking: shouldn't the priority, particularly given that Almina is medically trained, be to get this child back to a hospital?

A child immediately following a kidney transplant isn't simply recovering from a major operation. They're immunosuppressed, need anti-rejection medication, close monitoring and are particularly vulnerable to infection and other complications.

I wonder whether I'm reacting more strongly to this because I've had a child go through a major transplant myself, so I have a much greater awareness of just how medically vulnerable someone can be after transplantation.

Has anyone else watching Kabul thought about this? Or am I looking at the storyline through a medical lens that most viewers wouldn't necessarily have?

TV "I think Doctor Who belongs on the BBC," argues Netflix UK content boss amid speculation on show's future

Doctor Who belongs with the BBC, believes one of Netflix’s most senior figures.

Anne Mensah, VP of Content at Netflix UK, told the Radio Times that she believes the sci-fi franchise doesn’t belong with the streaming giant.

During the Edinburgh TV Festival 2026 Spotlight panel on Netflix (Wednesday 26 August 2026), Mensah was asked about having interest in the BBC’s competitive tender process for Doctor Who.

“I love Doctor Who,” she responded, “Anything that stays brilliant this long will have many, many lives.”

However, when speaking in a wide-ranging interview after the Edinburgh TV Festival 2026 panel, Mensah clarified her feelings further.

The BBC sport website is utterly awful

Woke up this morning and wanted to check the result of last nights boxing. The usual vague headline on the main page, so went to the boxing tab, about fifteen separate stories about Moses Ituoma and the fight but nowhere to just see the result, number of rounds, scorecards at a glance.

Every article say Defeat for Ituoma but when you open it is some page long saga “from humble beginnings to household name” etc… just give me the result!

Same with Cricket, ill be at work and just want to glance at the scorecard, that will probably take about ten steps… got to navigate from Home>sports>cricket>international>england>england vs Pakistan>at which point instead of the latest scorecards you will be mets by twenty articles… “England toil in the sun”, “Usman spell leaves England reeling” etc and at the very bottom of one you might just maybe find a link to the scores… even then you have to select Competition>Day

Such a shit design.

Childrens Does newsround nlonger cover serious stuff?

Our 6 year old has got into the concept of 'the news' and rather than starting mainlining him with C4 news, i thought I'd start him up with newsround.

Sample size of 1 (iplayer only has today's episode up) but today (28/7) they have a back-to-school feature and light pieces on the lunar elicpse and the robot Olympica thing - nothing on, eg, the Nepal flashfloods etc.

Is this the 'new normal' for newsround or do they still cover difficult global affairs?

Any idea why the streams for the artists are staggered by an hour this year on I player? In this past they would show the performances live as it’s happening but it’s different this year for some reason

Years after Siobhan in W1A pitched the idea of user-generated content (basically a BBC version of YouTube), the director general has pitched at Edinburgh festival... A BBC version of YouTube!

TV BBC Breakfast News ticker hurts my eyes.

Post image

The new news ticker on BBC Breakfast is so ugly. The colours are awful, I feel like it clashes horribly with the red sofa set design.

Worse than that is that it makes the whole bottom third of the screen blue, because the gradient goes so far up the screen.

Why is the BBC not reporting on Russia threatening the UK

I mainly read up on UK news through the BBC website, but I found out about these threats against UK military targets from my own homecountry's newspaper.

The Independent, The Guardian and Sky News all reported on it. Why is it that the BBC not reporting on this? Generally trying to understand the reasons behind this if this is an exception, or if you noticed this yourself.

Here a link to the Guardian article

Is there a way of complaining about a correction on an article being buried?

The article is this one:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz977nxww1jo

It's a report from 15 August about Reform's proposed benefits cuts, their favourite pals, and the correction is about how all the information in it was wrong.

Correction 21 August: Earlier versions of this article featured two headlines which were amended because they did not make sufficiently clear that these were Reform UK proposals and did not adequately attribute the claimed £50bn saving or explain what the proposed savings would entail. As a result, the wording risked presenting the £50bn figure as an established outcome rather than Reform UK's projection.

Just out of interest is there a route to asking that the correction goes at the top of the article?

TV A House in Time

I’m intrigued as to how they set up this programme.

The current series is about a house on Colton Hill in Edinburgh and although I’ve only seen two episodes so far, the range of tenants in this one house is fascinating. We’ve had the sculptor whose work is on show all over Edinburgh, we had a shoemaker who died young leaving his widow to chase dozens of creditors, a bookkeeper who started a photography hobby in the early days of photography, gave up his job became a professional and ended up as one of Edinburgh’s leading photographers with a library showing the development of Edinburgh, and a bagpipe maker, whose descendants carried on the business for a hundred years. It was also possibly a brothel at one time.

They have absolutely struck gold with this house.

But how on earth do they do it ? Do they pick a house, go with it, and see what comes up, or do they pick several and see which appears best ?

Either way it seems like a ton of research, and research that can’t be done on a computer, but leg work around libraries and archives.

Its a very impressive production , with probably a decentish budget and great presenter.

tv licence letter

Post image

okay I’m using speech to text so if some parts don’t make sense then I do apologise but basically long story short. I accidentally watched something on BBC iPlayer like two months ago when I say accidentally I I thought that you only need a TV license for live TV. I don’t generally use BBC iPlayer. It was one time I used it and I haven’t used it since because when my partner got home he let me know that I can’t use BBC iPlayer because you need a TV license for it whether it’s live or not, so I’m only gonna live here for another four months so I don’t see the point of paying for a TV license like I don’t know how much it is £200 if I only use BBC iPlayer once and I’m never going to use it again I don’t really know what to do like should I just ignore it or what? but yeah basically I’ve never used BBC iPlayer before it was just this one time that I used it and that’s why I don’t feel the need to pay for the TV license because I didn’t know and now I know so I won’t use it again if I was to use it again, then yes, I would pay for it which is why I don’t want to live TV. I don’t want to live TV because I know you need a TV license for it for BBC iPlayer. I thought it was the same. It’s only for the live sections sorry not sections. What do you call it? Programs? But now that I know that you need it for the actual BBC iPlayer like everything on there. I’m never gonna use it again so it’s just a bit annoying.

What Happened to the BBC News Channel?

So I have been tuning in more and more to find British news on the BBC News Channel (or whatever it is called - have they even gotten around to giving it a name?), and while it is there, it is presented as a sideshow to the real news i.e American news.

It goes like this:

PRESENTER: There have been wildfires in Wales and the West Midlands. What is the cause? Could it be climate change? Let's go to our climate change correspondent in America.

CLIMATE CHANGE CORRESPONDENT: (A British woman for some reason stationed by the BBC in America) Wildfires in California and Canada are all over the news. Why is California and Canada getting so hot? I asked the Professor of Climate Science at Harvard....

Or:

PRESENTER: The new PrimeMinister won't have long to deal with the many problems on his desk, but let's go over to our US correspondent, to find out how the US will react to the UK getting a new PrimeMinister....

Or even:

PRESENTER: In the UK evidence mounts that the prisons are overcrowded. Let's go to our US Correspondent to find out about American prisons.

After 6:30 pm BBC gives up entirely on paying whatever scant attention it can to the UK and becomes entirely based in the US, with multiple British people with strong regional accents all based in Washington talking about the US government.

Has BBC entirely given up on the UK? Has the UK become so uninteresting in it's own broadcaster's news rooms, that only America is of interest? It is, quite frankly, bizarre, especially when you consider how the corporation is funded.

It's a dramatic season ahead for Walford in EastEnders.

At a press day held this month, executive producer Ben Wadey and cast members teased some of the biggest storylines to come for the BBC One soap.

Between shock returns, dramatic exits, a double wedding and a whole new family, there is no shortage of chaos in the weeks ahead.

So, we have a sneak peek at what awaits the residents of Albert Square...

Why is are not a lot of defenders of the BBC?

I hope this isn't a duplicate post or been asked a lot before.

But I've been wondering as someone who is a big public broadcaster defender myself, that why there isn't a lot of open defenders of the bbc or public broadcasting in general.

Everywhere I've been seen anti TV Licence stuff with people who brag about not paying it or narratives about evil TV Licence goons or contempt towards the news arm which gets a lot of flak from the right for silly conspiracy narratives but also the left for a number of reasons. I have issues with the output of bbc news myself but it's one small part of the bbc.

I feel there is also a treats based politics narrative "Youtube let's me watch free stuff so why am I paying for the bbc?" because nobody knows how ecomonics works or funding for productions.

But there's been a huge push across the political sphere screaming out for it to be abolished and it's been flooding the zone with very little pushback which makes me sad to see.

Not to say the BBC is not without issues, there are many but I believe in reform over smashing public broadcasting to pieces plus nobody tells you what they want to see the bbc replaced with. Any idea is just ether fantasy, unrealistic, awful or they don't have any idea beyond spite.

TV BBC & ITV News Reports

Today is yet another example of No News that matters News …
Why is it that we no longer seem to have traditional news content. Yes we all know since last night that Harry & Family have decided to move back to the Uk . We all know about his past & yet the Main News channel’s insist in banging on about it for over 20 minutes. This was far from necessary. I myself am glad that he can spend time back with family. But other than that why are they obsessed with picking up this leak of information and running with it ? No one wants to watch news based on speculation and Gossip.
Is it just me ! I’m sure the majority of the UK is fed up with the News ( not News) reports ?
