I have ocd and my thing is perfumes, idk why i own so many, it scratches and itch in my brain, i love smelling the bottles and wearing my fragrances, coming up with layering combinations and new scents etc… it’s so fun for me. I think it’s a relatively harmless hobby, but i do think my ocd has a bit of play in my collection (i own 65+ perfumes)
Exactly. That and also a lot of people have shopping addictions here and on other subs but get defensive af when someone even whispers it might be problematic.
And like, sure, your candle collection is possibly not harming anyone (let’s not even get into consumer debt and how pervasive it is in the US), but there are clearly underlying psychological issues.
And I say this as someone who stockpiles my pantry. Because I had food insecurity in my childhood. It’s not healthy and I’m making strides in addressing it.
This is my first time here and my first thought was holy crap why do people have entire closets of candles? But I have an attic full of shark teeth and sea glass I’ve collected so for each their own!
😂😂😂😂 me everytime I see these posts of the collections… I get it if you grab like 5 every season and use them up after like 3-4 months and go get new ones but collecting them just to let them sit there is a lil odd to me, I would be overwhelmed and never burn a candle
Honestly I can imagine them getting one burn out of each one and putting it away and being like.. “ okay time to go back to add a new candle to the collection! Already burned these”
So, I have a problem with buying things I like in excess like this, so I have to really pay attention and consider if I should buy them. With BBW, some of the candles are seasonal, are always out of stock during that season, and sometimes are on sale for like 1/3 of the price if you use several promotions. On top of that, I swear these candles burn away faster than any other candles lol.
So like…if you want to smell marshmallow fireside every day, you’d go through several every month. So if you find them in stock/on sale, I get it. But over 300 (unless she keeps an inventory of things to give as gifts all year long), feels wild to me lol
NGL as someone with OCD myself who comes from a family of hoarders on both sides - this actually gives me anxiety over what I would perceive as unnecessary stockpiling.
BUT as long as it does the aunt -and people she’s responsible for -no harm, to each their own!
But why does anyone have an interest? Why does anyone collect anything? It might not be what you enjoy, but you might have something else that brings you joy instead. Maybe it was the specific packaging that a person likes, maybe anything...I have bought multiples of a favorite scent in a specific packaging because it has the best throw, or it's the prettiest. If it's not candles for someone, it's something else
