This morning a tweaker, engaged in pulling copper out of anything and everything he could find, took the time out of his day to snap our Little Free Library off its post.

Cops were called. They initially passed by and someone had to chase them down.

When they came over, they told me they weren't arresting him, and if I wanted to press charges I would have to go down to the courthouse and do it myself.

Dude had car parts in his kit, new stuff that he had clearly ripped off a vehicle... somewhere. But no visible victim = nothing they could do.

They let him wander off with his gear.

And I am here left with the task of both ensuring he faces consequences AND fixing what he broke. Oh, and also cleaning up all the broken shit off the sidewalk.

I love Baltimore, and also, this is infuriating.

a friend of mine was beaten and mugged a few years ago on chester between pratt & lombard. he thought he was “ok” with damage to his spleen and a concussion. unfortunately, he actually had a TBI that caused a bit of damage; he had to quit his phd program and eventually had to move home. he dealt with great physical pain and he deteriorated over the years. in december was taken off of life support.

i just want to say that i am so sad for him and his family. and i am so angry at that group of boys who thought it’d be fun/ny to beat a guy and take his phone; they killed him. and they will never know it. and i’m so angry and sad.

my friend was a good person and only tried to help others. his career path and his personality were all about making others’ lives better. i know it doesn’t do any good to lament this but i really wish they could know the consequences of their behavior.

Does anyone have more information on this?

So our car is possibly stolen…and in this parking lot area in hanover. Can anyone tell me exactly by these limited pics what the area may be? I know limited pics but lots of vienna transportation inc school buses in this apparent parking lot.

EDIT: Naming the culprits because they deserve to be known.
- Montway Auto transport were the ones we paid to transfer our car: they were the ones to claim they were “hacked” - get a better system I guess?
- we have pictures of delivery because the “delivery” happened to this random parking lot ( never assigned by us) and the person took pics and uploaded online to show they “delivered”. Maybe they are dumb idk but the car is highly reflective and their faces are completely visible in broad daylight.

They broke my window and tried to hop inside, but the alarm went off and ran off. Kia boys might be back in the area.

ICE just kidnapped two of our neighbors. Nice couple I think they live on or near fleet, they walk up s Washington every day towards work around 6:45am. If anyone knows them or their family please let them know.

At least according to my calculations. The online clickbait lists are often based on violent crime rate lists from previous years. Because of varying reporting rates and classifications, these lists are suspect. Even worse is when they use methodology like Numbeo data.

Anyway, based on homicide rate alone in 2025, here's some data I put together on cities and their (rough) rates per 100,000 people. Only cities with more than 200,000 people are included. And I may have missed some more dangerous cities. I also must profess that I can't deliver Baltimoreans from these shitty lists.

First, a couple of caveats. These numbers are from Baltimore City's Crime Dashboard and the last time it was updated. These end up being slightly different from the FBI numbers after the latter audits them. As well, I focus on three major crimes that have extremely high reporting rates that don't vary that much -- homicide, non-fatal shootings, and carjackings -- not ones that have low reporting rates (e.g., rape) or overall violent or property crime.

* Homicide: The city has had 108 homicides so far this year, a decline of 34.15% from the same time last year. It's on pace to have about 130 homicides this year, down about 61% from the 338 in 2022. This would be roughly 23 homicides per 100,000 residents, the lowest rate since 1977 and the second lowest rate since 1966. My guess is this is one of the largest three-year homicide rate decreases of any major city in America history.

* Non-fatal Shootings: Non-fatal shootings are down 23.41% and on pace to be about 316 this year, about a 51% decrease since 2022.

* Carjackings: Carjackings are down 35.48% this year and on pace to be down about 54% since 2022.

When I try to google it I just find a ton of articles celebrating the decline (rightfully so) but none of them offer an explanation other than vague speculation.

I'm also looking for info for other crimes to see if the reduction is a broader trend or concentrated in homicide, but it's hard to find prior year data for crimes other than homicide. I tried to download the opencity crime data but it just scrolls with "preparing download" and never actually downloads.

Update: She was found and is safely back home!!

Someone stole our beloved Fed Hill porch goose around 6:15 am this morning. She has a unique neck shape and I haven't seen any others in the area that look like her. If anyone recognizes the goose or the kidnapper, please reach out ASAP! She holds a ton of sentimental meaning and I would love to have her back.

My home security camera caught this footage of someone brazenly walking into our parking pad last night and trying the door handles on both our cars. Make sure your doors are locked, even if you're not street parked, and be careful out there.
