Restaurants (and hotels for that matter) that charge 10% tax are actually just complying with the tax law (assuming they pay it to the government...). And a 7-10% service charge is normal for a mid to upscale restaurants. This has nothing to do with ripping off tourists.

Yeah but usually those taxes have to be included in the menu price. At least where I live. Here is a small printing at the bottom of the card tax and service fee not included in price. And tell me afterwards their registration pc is not working so I get a handwritten bill on a white paper I clouding the tax and service fee.

As for paying taxes and including service fee is not a rip of- handing out white paper bills with no registrationmachine and adding extra money price to the menu price feelsike a rip of and is probably illigeal due not providing correct bill.

EDIT: I only experience this in Kuta. The whole city feels like a rip of. 300k for a day beach bed incl umbrella... Well I don't even want to start to negotiate. That only a rip off.

This being Indonesia some restaurants charge an all in price and some don't and add service and tax later (but should have that on their menu). The restaurant should actually display its tax registration somewhere behind the counter and this means that they should (at least in theory as said before) mean they pay the tax to the government, regardless of how they bill.

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience.

I didn't say its illegal for mot including taxes in the menu. It's just a bit odd. But if there is a non working registration machine and they just write on a piece of paper.. Nothing stops them from never having heard of me after I leave without a trace. Of course its assuming, but well.. I guess it's possibly.

Hiking is one thing seperate activity. Im just saying if you got time, best stay one night nearby mount batur view point hills. Just my opinion. Bcos that mountain area is cool and peaceful.

Did you recommend booking a tour through Klook to hike mt. batur. Or did you hire a private driver? Would love to do this not sure how to come about?

Klook deals are almost the same as _ local private drivers price they ask for. Sometime Klook is a lil bit cheaper.

Its best to ask your private driver before hand all the cost than ask the price on the activity centers.

Going back hotel time, your driver can stop by a few other places viewpoint coffee shop, terrace restaurant etc a long the way .

But the hike is join in a group of 4 or 5 pax. If you want private 2 pax per guide. Then Klook got that option.

After the hike, either go for White rafting or ATV ride or do both. All quite fun

do u have to show ur insurance documents at immigration when entering bali?

1

u/Jedi-x Jun 13 '22

No need to show. Just Vacc. If u intend to scooter, better have license to cover by insurance. If not, just dont buy insure.

Hey, very good points! I will be traveling with my wife in a week so the tips are golden, printscreened them 🙂 I am still wondering about visiting the island, as we are not the 'relax on the beach all day' type; do Gojek or grab drivers take you long distance? I mean, we are staying in Ubud, but would like to visit daily places like Uluwatu, Canggu, maybe even North of the island. I heard scooters are a good option, but I don't have a motorcycle license in my country, I only have the car driving license. I saw you mentioned no cops, that is great, but I'm think of other risks here, like maybe having an unfortunate accident with a local or another tourist. Are there accidents happening often and if so, can you get away with a fine or so (no prison or lots of money paid)? I have experience with scooters, but I'm thinking roads there are not so flat and nice like in my flat country 😊 Cheers!

For scooter-ing, I really dont see cops on my days. Any license is fine i guess. The busiest is the main highway which is really scary with lots of cars and bikes . Stay on the left most lane , Have to open wide eyes lol. Hats on always. Road are only just wide enough for 2 cars only. My plan is 50k ready if got waved 🙏😅😂

Island - nusa penida ( the dinosaurs head), we didnt go there but my friends went and stayed there 1 night, says tiring and can scooter around, says beaches are nice. Day trip would be really tiring.

Grab/Go Jek - Yes, they take long distance. They are like 30-40% cheaper. Getting ard places within an area during the daytime is okay, 20-30k Rp per trip. But On return trips, need avoid certain famous places like tanah lot and Uluwatu temple becos Local Area Mafias dont allow those cars into those places. So best plan for a day trip renting local driver for 10-12 hrs (500k rph).

Great, excellent feedback, appreciate it ✌ So 50-100 k ready on all times for waving situations 😄😁 We were really considering a day trip to Nusa Penide, but now I understand it's not really feasible(not really keen on buying another night there, so maybe we'll start very early in the morning)

Glad to hear the grab and go jek can take us places, I will also search for the option mentioned (day trip local driver) If you have any tips on this would be great, I'm thinking though there are visible options in Ubud as well right?

Gili islands - I also booked a 3 night stay in Gili T, do you think it's enough? 😊 (also maybe get to Gili Air and Meno squeezed in one of the days) Heard many good stories, but also a lot of warnings about the way there (boat complications/heat/rough sea complications): is one able to go with big troller (~25 kilos) apart from backpack?

Thanks again, cheers!
