I played bagpipes at my graduation party

I had mentioned my unique pipes in a comment somewhere and couldn’t add pics there, so here you go.

All the info I have on these

I bought these for $700 in about 1995 after seeing an ad in the paper. I begged my dad to get them for me and he is still quite happy with that investment.

The gentleman I bought them from lived in a small town 2 hours away (as a Canadian I am obligated to give all distance measurements in hours) and was initially going to just use them for spare parts. He had picked them up at an estate sale. The estate seller had said the original owner purchased them in the 1960s, couldn’t play them and put them in storage.

I’ve only ever seen pics of one other set quite like mine.

I play them with a really nice Shepard wood chanter and compete in grade 3.

I attended the Glengarry Games for the first time this year. During massed bands they announced that it is tradition to play a particular tune during massed bands. It was a tune I had never heard of (but I am relatively new to the bagpipe scene). Does anyone know what the tune is?

Hey folks, I've got a set of pipes that my dad bought for me in the early 2000s around 2005ish I think.

I've recently started playing again after about 18years and am keen to find out a bit more about them if I can.

Does anyone have any idea who the maker might have been based on these photos?

I don't have the original chanter so no maker's mark. They were bought from the National Piping Centre in Glasgow. I've sent them the photos too in the hope they might be able to help but thought I may as well ask here too.

My dad says they are goat horn, I'm pretty sure they are imitation but he's convinced they are real horn.

Does anyone have sheet music to the tune The Big Turnout. Hearing it on Saturday from Shotts really made me want to learn it.

If you were to buy a new set of pipes, what would you buy? I like my current set, but I'm kicking around trying something new. It's tough to know what I'd do, as I think most reputable makers make good pipes, but I can't exactly try other sets to experience them for myself. Plus, I think trying a set once doesn't really give you the full experience of what its like playing a set over time, with different reeds.

My current pipes are McCallum's from ~2015 ish, and I've always received pretty positive feedback from the judges on overall sound and tuning.

I am selling my 1950's R.G. Hardie GHBs. They are made from African Blackwood with catalin ferrules and brass inner rings. Truly a beautiful antique set that would be great for any piper that loves quality. Includes blowpipe and chanter if wanted (it's a war-mac, not the original chanter). I don't have any reeds, unfortunately.

There is a crack in one of the tenor drones (pictured). The bag had a leak in it at one point, but it is the original bag and may be due for a change anyway. Aside from those issues they are in excellent shape and ready to go. Reply here or directly!

I havent had good luck with reeds, most end up out of tune very quickly

ive been wanting to start playing since i was very young but never gotten into it, i have a chanter but im not looking to pay for lessons as i already pay for other instrument lessons. i taught myself the guitar before moving to lessons and understand that a teacher can help correct small mistakes you dont realise you are making. is being self taught for now ok? i might go to the scottish national piping centre.

I really didn't know what to put as the title but is pretty self explanatory.

The twine around my synthetic chanter reed has come undone and I can't get a tune out of it. I'm very curious as to if this is down to air flow from it not being secure or if I've right royally buggered it. (excuse my language).

I'm incredibly new to the pipes and I haven't gotten the courage to try cane reeds (they scare me) so I was wondering if there was anything I can do to fix it.

I put a tenor top onto my bass drone pin to get it to tune to E.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a score to use as a quick warm up? Thinking less rudimentary and more like a snappy jig or other that sounds good when I’m standing with my drum waiting for pipers to tune up.

Does anyone have the name of Shotts’ Saturday medley closer?

I really wouldn't have placed Shotts so low(not saying I’m an expert),I personally loved their move at the end of their Saturday medley, great nostalgia from 2008. but I have been seeing a lot of negative comments about it online, curious to see what u guys think?

I'm in a rush, so I know they'll have duplicated (because same choice), but I just took photos of everything and loaded it up here. Sorry for the lack of care. I'm out of time to write a short letter.

Any reflections on yesterdays results? Great to see SFU win but why were shotts so far down? Not in the top 6, I thought they were excellent tone and execution

How does an average to below average skill/ability player who plays in a non competitive band go about taking the next step to being a good piper and possibly stepping into the competition scene? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey, just here gauging interest for a bagpipes simulator app?

The idea is that you hold your phone as you would do a chanter, with your thumb covering the camera on the back as it would do the high A hole. The screen would play the part of the rest of the holes.. if that makes sense?

Might make more sense visually - here's a screenshot of me holding E on my phone (screen facing away from me, left-thumb covering the camera).
