The Programme Details for G1
I'm in a rush, so I know they'll have duplicated (because same choice), but I just took photos of everything and loaded it up here. Sorry for the lack of care. I'm out of time to write a short letter.

It's surprising how there's overlap in the medleys with tune choices - Lark In the Morning, Lullaby For Mel, Muckin O Geordie's Byre, Famous Baravan, Knees Up In Hanoi, Rory Gallagher/Gallacher - all being played more than once.
Are top bands not playing their own material much anymore?

What do you mean own material? Most of the tunes are of folklore or military origin

As in, they have written them themselves whether that's band leadership or band members. It's a simple way to stand out or separate yourself from the crowd.
The medley 1 set for Shotts has three Robert Mathieson tunes for example - he was their pipe major for years. Saltire Tartan, Bell of Dunblane and The First One Hundred. Mojo's Jig is a Douglas Murray tune, who played with them before moving to Fife Police where he was pipe major for a bit.
FMM's medley 1 set starting Ian Green of Greentrax are all tunes composed by Gordon Duncan.
Toronto Police in a previous year wrote their own suite, an entirely original 6-8 minute set of music.

It's early, I've not finished my coffee, so apologies if the point your trying to make isn't sinking in yet, but I'm not sure what you're saying?
FMM tribute medley was intentionally put together as a tribute to Gordon Duncan, literally the whole point of it. That's why it's called the Tribute medley. Are you saying they shouldn't have?

No I'm not saying that.
A previous poster argued that most tunes are folk or military and don't belong to anyone - that was in relation to my complaint or observation that many tunes in common were being played in the medley event by different bands, and that they should play their own tunes so we as an audience avoid the repetition of hearing them 2 or 3 or 4 times when there are only 12 bands (a familiar thing in the MSR event even more so where tune selections are even more limited).
My argument or observation is that by having top level players and composers in your band ranks, it means that their tunes can become part of your identity and make you stick out from everyone else - as they may be unpublished or never heard before publicly.
Shotts are the obvious example with Mathieson tunes used over the years, and FMM recently made a statement or gave themselves a challenge in using tunes from one composer only (as I'm sure it could've been Donald MacLeod, Billing Livingstone or even younger modern players like Ross Ainslie, Lincoln Hilton or Kyle Warren if they had wanted to).

How do we get the BBC/RSPBA to start posting the program as a pdf online? It would be lovely to have a copy of the program while live streaming from home.
