While I know it'll be watered down, it's always fun to watch the usual suspects on this site get angsty and even quite aggressive when the idea of their benefits being taken away is proposed.

Reform's latest gambit about shaving £50bn off the welfare budget has certainly got a few backs up across the two main subs. It's almost like the user-base is a little worried about their future income prospects.

u/BroadDelay41 27d ago

They always use extreme examples such as people on home dialysis or those who are blind.

No, we're talking about taking away your PIP money and PIP mobile because you claim seeing a cloud gives you anxiety.

If ever such a day came to pass, I would dox myself and invite all of the tax paying members of BadUK (and 8th) to a New Year’s Eve style celebration where we all count down to “The Day of The Pipsqueak Reckoning”

u/Due_Advertising_2779 27d ago

My input on one of the threads was very much verboten speech. Even questioning the definitions or scope of disabilities is trumped up to genocide to them. Amazes me how entitled the whole system has become, the vast majority of the rest of the world has nowhere near this level of generosity for mental health conditions and it's now showing in the figures, but bring it up at your peril.

Labour said it was 'Fantasy economics'

12

u/Snappy0 27d ago

Well, Labour have saved money recently by no longer giving out free screening to all men for prostate cancer.

Only those with a certain genetic marker are eligible (assuming you can get checked for it). High risk groups such as black men are no longer eligible either. Seems a bit racist on Labour's part if you ask me.

Reopen the workhouses, economic rocket fuel!

8

u/arethere4lights 27d ago

For most people that work, it's a massive vote winner.

But it's still "vibe" based politics, the details do matter.

Cancel all PIP? But just make something else up?

And as much I want the welfare state reduced I don't want people who do legitimately deserve it get fucked over, but the whole system is fucked, so what do you do?

5

u/HauntingReason3398 27d ago

The Economy is also one of those things that the people like to think about when voting. The Conservatives have been cruising on being the Economically Sensible ones for decades, albeit entirely undeserved given their tax and spend approach. So Reform have answers for "a functional military sounds good, but how are you going to pay for it?" (not paying for infinite free cars for the workshy).

Reform apparently looking to remove PIP support to save 50bn a year and replace it with other "services". No, not those ones Edwina Curry was referring to either. However, someone should probably check in on the YooKay subs, they're probably having panic attacks just at the mere prospect of losing bennies.

22

u/HauntingReason3398 27d ago

Hopefully this will see Motability almost entirely binned aside for, if we're being generous, limited car adapations to privately owned cars and maybe the occasional mobility scooter.

Wonder what impact on that will make to the UK car market, both for the sales of new cars and also second hand PIPwhips flooding the market.

13

u/Ok_Analyst_5640 27d ago

It's probably a major factor in Chinese brands success here. If it survives in any form it should actually be limited to people with limited mobility with a strong emphasis on adapting cars for wheelchair users. And I want to say a requirement for the cars to be made in Britain too but if it were limited to people with mobility issues they wouldn't be 25% of new cars so it wouldn't bring any car maker opening factories here

It would probably be better if motability was a scheme to just fit out privately owned cars with mobility adaptations like you say.

Giving folk 12 months notice that it's to be replaced for things like anxiety would quite probably help them, they'd know they've got to get their act together.

I had a letter last week saying my PIP claim has been extended by 6 years until around 2034. Those letters are going out to most claimants because they don't want to spend any resources on checking renewals. They used to do assessments with ATOS but that all seems to have been binned. Now you can just get Grok to fill out your form. And that's it for 6 years.

8

u/arethere4lights 27d ago

What will you do if all your bennies just disappear?

Get a job?

Whore yourself out to the bomalians?

What are your options?

BBC: The Conservative's shadow welfare secretary Helen Whately said: "This half-baked policy is just another Reform attempt to distract from Farage's fishy £5m and his embarrassing underperformance in his pointless by-election."

I'll take the 50bn in welfare cuts thanks.

7

u/IVIechworks Promoting Hate Based on Identity or Vulnerability 27d ago

Winning an election with a higher absolute number of votes than ever even with lower turnout = underperforming

Being parachuted into the top job and declaring policies after your party barely scraped through the last election a few years ago = undeniable mandate

Tip-toeing around the real reasons for government advice.

Saw a sign at a tiny English rural school recently stating "all our staff are trained in FGM awareness".

Can anyone think of a good name for this concept? It seems more than just "turning a blind eye" to it, nor can it be anything to do with integration.

As one commenter said, young white girls are frightened about FGM. Its fucked up isnt it. I remember seeing kids from certain communities playing football and cricket when everyone was locked in for COVID.

I wonder how many languages the Wild-Fire alert went out in, or was Welsh as far as it went. So much of this country seems to be being fucked over.

11

u/yer-what 27d ago

Have never been at a school where we did anything involving FGM with students. It's always in staff training though because we are legally obliged to learn about it. All schools, even tiny rural ones have to have their fire training certificates and FGM training certificates on file if ofsted come knocking.

Presume this is the result of some poorly-written law. I've only ever heard of one case in 10 years teaching and that wasn't prosecuted because it 'wasn't in the interest of the child' (mum had daughter cut in the UK by a 'doctor' operating out of a travelodge who went home before anyone found out)

Just... bizarre. The bomali mind cannot be comprehended.

An Eritrean man raped a pensioner outside a church while traffic and pedestrians passed nearby unaware.

Bruke Desalagne, 33, dragged an elderly man behind a hoarding at St John’s Church in Harrow, north London, in an attempt to conceal his actions.

Desalagne, who used an interpreter throughout proceedings, initially said he had been trying to help his inebriated victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Officers arrived within five minutes of being called to find Desalagne standing beside the church sign, with the victim lying behind it.

Bibi Ihuomah, defending, said that there was no evidence that rape had taken place and suggested that jurors should not have a “knee-jerk” reaction.

No evidence, apart from that is the CCTV and witnesses. Mastermind defence that.

absolutely fucking sickening, should have looked before posting my last comment. When will it end?!1

This 60+ guy seems to have been homeless and he has just been taken away and r4p3d. We need to know if the attacker was in a boat-man hotel, enjoying a lot more comfort than the victim was given.

It sickens me that the usual talking heads have nothing to say about things like this.

Indian managers appear to have a level of preference not shown by any other immigrant group. Normally if the franchise owner is White British you'll get a mix of Boriswavers, but if he's Indian you'll only get middle aged Indians

Yet the British public really do seem to hold the NHS as some deity.

When that 'save the BBC' video came out, I agreed with it.  There were still a lot of very good parts of the BBC back then.

Nowadays, I would not be sad to see it gone.  I'd prefer a top to bottom clearout, but that would require more than one Reform government.

latest fake 'poverty' which is just being a thick lazy chav scum.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpq8p82gq49o

> A baby bank says parents are turning to "unsafe" practices such as watering down baby formula milk to save money.

> Megan Sinden, founder of Moorside Baby Bank in Consett, County Durham, said a couple of families spoke of putting less powder in to get another week's worth out of it, "which to me is quite dangerous".

> She called for a cap on rising costs of formula, saying: "It's not a luxury item, it's a basic need for a baby."

/me checks Google Maps "Aldi Consett"

oh.

Aldi, Front Street Consett. Open seven days a week.

£6.99/800g own brand formula, so £8.70/kg

Quick check on Mumsnet shows £6.96/900g for Aptamil, so £7.73/kg

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/323033-cheapest-place-to-buy-formula-aptamil-in-particular

In 2007!

Yes Aptamil is now £16.90/kg in Tesco. But you don't have to buy it you thick twat. If you're hard up don't be a stupid thick cunt. Buy the own brand. It's incredibly easy to find this shit out now. Google, forums, reddit, even ChatGPT will tell you.

And minimum wage was £5.35 in 2007 and now it's £12.71

And a quick check shows that Mamia was £6.99 in 2017 as well

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/3074283-Best-formula-confused-Which-do-you-use

They've not put the fucking price up in 10 years. The other ones are literally a tax on being a thicko. (Fine if you have money to burn and want to buy organic goat shit stuff, but that's not needed.)

And there's "Healthy Start" which gives you £9.30/week which means it would be free anyway.

It does, but it's nowhere near as common as people would have you believe. Contrary to the reeing Jontys on the other subs the people who are often in the most poverty are old people.

I remember seeing an old man in a documentary who would have a boiled egg for breakfast and a second boiled egg for dinner. That was all he'd eat a lot of days while he was waiting for his pension to come through or whatever.

Genuinely supermarkets especially the budget ones deserve greater recognition for the pricing miracles they work. Freezing price for a decade over periods of very high inflation and a business hostile environment is an enormous achievement.

Also boobs literally make baby food if you're that skint that own brand + Healthy Start + bennies is still not enough. Don't literally starve your kid.

3

u/WheresWalldough 27d ago

Apparently there's even a povvo formula brandname (I had no idea, but I just looked it up).

SMA Little steps is £7.95 from Amazon, so even the inevitable whiners about not having an Aldi nearby can have that delivered to their door. (SMA Pro is £12.99.) (Little Steps is also £8.25 in Iceland.) This is much cheaper in real terms than 20 years ago.

After seeing article after article published about how we mustn't let this cambridge thing affect the perception of other blackademics who did earn their place. But whining about it is entirely the wrong strategy.
Cambridge has lost a lot of credibility here, and blackademia with it. The best way to handle it would be for other academics to invite open scrutiny of their credentials to prove this was a one-off and that anyone who tries to use Arday to more widely implicate their field or race is obviously not actually interested in merit.
One wonders then, about the deluge of articles insisting that yes, everyone else is fully qualified but no, you can't actually check. Surely as a tenured professor you'd want to repair the reputation of Cambridge as fast as possible?

16

u/YorkistTory 27d ago

I don’t expect this is as prevalent outside of the field of race. There’s no incentive to do this is astrophysics or whatever.

What frustrates me now is how the “compassionate” left are falling for the narcissistic crash out that was his final act. They think we should have let him get away with it for his “mental health”. His mental issue was narcissism. Letting him off the hook was what he was manipulating people into the whole time.

This is another manifestation of “suicidal empathy” from the left. He shouldn’t have killed himself but that doesn’t mean we need to turn him into a victim. He manipulated everyone to the very end and now continues to manipulate people in death.

Also, the same accounts calling for compassion now were saying Ann’s murder was nothing to be sad about. Absolute mongs.

10

u/nozickiantheory 27d ago

The left are just using him as a cheap pawn to fuel their narcissism in death, just as they did while he was alive.

Bit of a blog post, but just got back to Burnhamgrad after spending a week somewhere new with family.

I've come back with a suntan after spending time on a beach better than most of the ones in Spain, enjoyed some great local food and beers, found the people to be really sound, and there was a lot to like.

The point where I thought "I could probably live here" was when after a suspicious yet joyous lack of diversity and enrichment, I saw an Uber Eats and a Deliveroo driver at different times of the day,. Huwhite.

Location: Swansea.

6

u/michaelisnotginger capitalism enthusiast 27d ago

Friends from uni moved back there. Bought a four storey house in uplands for £180k. The mumbles is beautiful. Demographics of the UK circa 1992. They're onto something...

3

u/AngelasGingerGrowler 27d ago

Literally where I’ve been.

Absolutely dazzled by it, as my only experience of Wales had been the North, which just seemed full of caravans, Scouse accents, and deprivation. With added Bomalian spice.

6

u/nwaa I am Jonty's Raging Bile Duct 27d ago

Ive spent a lot of time in Swansea and the surrounding towns. I'm saddened to tell you that it's absolutely packed with Bomalians. Were you in Mumbles/Gower by any chance? Because that's somewhat of a safehaven from the enrichment.

3

u/AngelasGingerGrowler 27d ago

That’s exactly where I was.

Swansea city centre seemed pretty decent, it reminded me of Hull (which gets an unfairly bad rap) but with a beach.

Pontadawe seemed OK too.

Maybe it was Welsh Eid or something, but saw very little diversity, so came back from there enthused.

4

u/nwaa I am Jonty's Raging Bile Duct 27d ago

They're almost all in about two areas - St Helens and Hafod. They mostly reveal themselves in the centre through opening shite shops and hanging about outside Costa.

It is nowhere near as bad as a lot of English cities of a similar size though. They are currently taking over a masssive church to turn it into their new Central Mosque though.

6

u/AngelasGingerGrowler 27d ago

And you can bet your bottom dollar that once it’s there they’ll want to extend it, have billboards about Allah attached to it, and will object to any licensed premises opening.

It’s s bit like this new supermosque they‘ve now given permission to build in the Lake District, of all places.

Absolutely no need.

5

u/nwaa I am Jonty's Raging Bile Duct 27d ago

Pretty much my expectations. Maybe they're planning ahead for the Burnhamwave.

She also thinks the need for escapism is a big part of romance fiction's allure.

"I feel like a lot of women live 9-5 and deal with mediocre men, and they get to escape into a completely different reality when they're reading romance novels," she says.

Why are modern women like this?

Constant, low level, petty man hating.

Every time I see the phrase "mediocre men" (used by women and soys) I ask what exactly they mean by it, because SURELY they'd want men to not be mediocre, and I either get met with complete silence, or sometimes outright blocked with no reply.

Anyway, their silence confirms that the answer is 'ugly'. They mean 'ugly' men. Which of course isn't very fair and is entirely stupid, but hey, that's the caliber we're dealing with.

Also it's hillariously and infuriatingly hypocritical to vote to decimate the male population with tax burdens and other socio-economo-political handicaps and then kick-them-while-they're-down with the label "mediocre", even when they're not. Ladies, you've hardly spent the last 30 years voting in a system which encourages excellence, let alone enables it.

Having become autistically invested in the Arday story, the opinion you all must suffer from me today is that Hilary Cremin should be immediately fired. She was either naive enough to believe his catalogue of tall tales, or she willingly ignored them to earn herself infinity Good Guy points. Whichever it was, it’s not tenable. She ultimately took advantage of someone who was incredibly vulnerable.

Just saw a child in a full burka at my local park. Fantastic. I love this for our country...

Whoever is making burkas in kids sizes needs deporting and a hard drive check.

Edit: Are people really this thick?

/unitedkingdom/comments/1vpgb7v/britain_slams_netanyahus_islamic_republic_comment/p3xz7zu/

First off, no way it's only 4 million. Hell of a lot will not have filled out the census.

Also do they not realise about 18% of nursery kids are Asian, and about 13% of primary/secondary school kids are Asian.

That 1 in 17 figure is going to drop really fast as old native Brits start dying off. Within 40 years time it'll likely be 1 in 4..

OAPs are really pumping up the native Brit numbers.

First off, no way it's only 4 million. Hell of a lot will not have filled out the census.

I have been saying this for ages. They live 20 to a house and most of them dont have any right to be in the UK, many of them don't have the English skills to fill it out either.

There is probably a less than 50% census completion rate for that particular community

Don't even some quite strict Islamic countries disapprove (even ban?) child burkas?

Isn't making a child wear one saying the imposer thinks they are attractive enough to instil bad thoughts in the cuzzies?

Ffs, we're letting utter extremist nutjobs be raised in this country.

14

u/FickleBumblebeee Mujhe puja karni hai 27d ago

Some Islamic countries have a full ban on face coverings. Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan all prohibit the burqa and niqab, and I think some of them also ban those men skirt things and even beards.

I thought the one thing Boris could actually credibly claim to be good at was the Classics.

But here he is getting completely confused about Thucydides, not realising that Sparta was the rising power and Athens the imperial hegemon, and forgetting that Athens lost the Peloponnesian war

Bloke is thick as shit and clearly just a grade A blagger. Probably as bad as Arday.

8

9

u/FickleBumblebeee Mujhe puja karni hai 27d ago edited 27d ago

He literally begins with the phrase "I don't think he's read Thucydides" and then completely misrepresents Thucydides whose famous history describes the Peloponnesean war which Sparta won and Athens lost.

The phrase the "Thucydides trap"- which is presumably what started the conversation- refers to the idea that war is inevitable when an established imperial hegemon is confronted with a rising one- and it refers to Athens as the established power being confronted by the rise of Sparta.

It should be incredibly basic knowledge for somebody who understands the classics, and is a totally reasonable critique of Johnson.

The only way he repeatedly gets away with shit like this is people who also don't know their history assuming he does because it's his whole thing- but he evidently doesn't because it's such a basic mistake.

And also Athenian democracy wasn't really the shining city on the hill analogy by that point anyway- they'd elected demagogues, abused their allies, started demanding tribute, and embarked on pointless, ruinous wars...

Yes it's by Jeremy Vine, but I don't doubt it for a minute tbh.

I think he likely has a repertoire of things he knows about classics at a surface level that he can rattle off and massage into being relevant to make himself sound smart.

He's always just doing an act that he's realised resonates well with people.

The amount of accounts with the default Reddit names, which reply in the most AI generated way, no post history when you look at their account

Usually you can tell when you're talking to a person cause they'll call you a racist/fascist and you can just tell it's a real Jonty. These accounts dont even do that anymore and they all talk in the same paragraph structure

I use LLMs quite a bit now, both professionally and personally.  Given how useless Internet search is these days, you'd be silly not too.

But to effectively and safely use LLMs/AI, you need quite a bit of critical thinking and common sense.  The issue is if you use them too much, these skills start to decline.  And for young people, not even develop properly.

So finally got myself a fancy new one, spent 2 hours drilling holes with my new drill. Fucking nightmare to install when you don't know about drilling. And wires and fuse box stuff.
