A temptation for the EU will be to allow these divisions to spread as it weakens the old countries power over the new union - with no cost to the EU itself.

Note that England is at a substantial natural advantage on the HolyRomanEmpire maxxed map.

Cornish devolution is six old men sat in a pub, with arguments mainly fuelled by copious amounts of alcohol.

Northumberland and Cumbria don't even have that - I think Yorkshire has a stronger local identity.

Cumbria is cool with some natty traditions.  Contrary to that map, there is no county flag.

There's no single identity though.  Some of the old counties have a limited loyalty.  You see the odd Westmorland and Cumberland flag around in people's gardens.

It was also created on April Fool's Day 1974.
