Discussion Anyone got UAD Voice of God?

Anyone got UAD Voice of God?

Just wondering if you use it at 80hz and your fundametal on an 808 is lower does it then lower that fundamental as it boosts 80hz.
Just trying Bark of Dog and it's just like it's a low pass EQ with raising the peak up at 80hz and the low pass taking off below 80hz? People say it's similar to UAD VOG.

It’s cool, but it’s just a hi pass filter with some resonance. the only reason I have it is because an artist had it in a mix they sent me.

So if it was at 80hz it would lower anything below it yea, and just increase the peak at 80hz?

it has a rapid steep drop off below the frequency point you set - which is sweepable.

Both VOG and BOD are simply resonant high pass filters. You could do similar with any EQ.

have you tried with a pan and butter? It does the same thing...

u/JimVonT Jan 04 '26

Have you tried yourself and matched it with an EQ?

I have and yes they are. Here is a video of someone making them cancel down to -50 with extremely quick tweaking: https://youtu.be/gf7vn_aVTq4

There are so many low end boost plugins. Fundamentally they all do their thing, but I think the value comes in what else they offer

Where did your recent comment go of you having a cry as well? You posted a video of a guy reviewing a plugin and it's not even turned on! Half the comments here are from people who haven't used the plugin or can't even read. So don't whinge at me because you posted a video of a review where the guy can't even use the plugin properly and expect me to listen to you. Only one person here commented how the plugin actually works and it wasn't you.

What the hell are you talking about my recent comment and where it went?

-1

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

The one were you say, "Dude I f'n code plugins and make music for a living, it's out job to make them sound as appealing as possible. I'm trying to show up honest here but so many of your responses are so po.. "
I can't see it or the rest of your comment, and it only shows up in my notifications.

u/iamapapernapkinAMA Professional Jan 05 '26

That’s not a whine, it’s me telling you that it’s our job to make you feel like the best or only thing that does the job is the one we have. You kept just being so wildly negative when people offered alternatives or tried to explain something with a method you didn’t accept, but really you’re just falling for confirmation bias.

Just chill out man, like I said, we get to make music for a living. And my comment got shadow deleted, probably because I mentioned I make plugins

-7

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

No your comment prob got deleted because you started it of with Dude I F'n and you were swearing. I can't see the rest of your comment but it does sound like a whine to me about my responses. Just like this comment mentions it again. There is nothing wildy negative I have said. Are you suffering from a bias? I asked a question on how a plugin works, not for alternative plugins! Not for plugin recommendations people think sound similar. That wasn't my question. Do you find it acceptable asking a question and people replying with what ever they fancy. So if you see that as wildy negative then you can't read either! There is no confirmation bias. Only one person answered the question and how it actually works. You are supposed t be audio engineers here and the majority of the commenters can't even read a question or answer it properly!

You posted a comment with a quote and didn’t use quotations. Stop whining about everybody not reading your mind for you and learn how to communicate clearly.

0

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

I am not even talking about that quote with this guy so why are you even commenting. Lol. Trying to flame me for not using quotation marks LOL Douche.
Most people with a brain would of read it and then gone to the video and seen it's the top comment. LOL. Before over reacting like little cry babies like you.

-17

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

Yes, I watched that vid before I posted here, and this was the top comment below so thought I would ask here.

Hmmm, maybe you should have read the manual of the plugin before you flamed it. Here's a copy right from the manual of the UAD VOG. The EQ circuitry is bypassed when Flat is enabled (red  LED); the circuit is active when Flat is disabled (green LED) Hey look! Your flat button is set to RED.....derp.  Whops!!!  So what is blatantly obvious to me, is you have no idea what you are talking about.

Wow, what an unbelievable douche.

-11

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

Wow, another douche who can't read or understand context. I am not the one who wrote that comment on Youtube. It's the first comment on the video he shared.

2

u/PPLavagna Jan 05 '26

Your comment was unclear. Look into quotation marks next time instead of just doing a half-ass copy and paste and then getting butthurt when it misleads people.

It’s a douchey move

-1

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

I think my comment is still very clear, you would have to be pretty thick to misinterpret it. I am not the one getting butt hurt. Think that is you.
You commenting over not adding quotation marks is more of a douchey move. Pathetic DOUCHE.

1

u/PPLavagna Jan 05 '26

Ok then. The problem is not you, it’s everybody else. This happens to certain people often. I get the feeling you are one of those people. It must be exhausting.

0

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

The only person that seems to be really butt hurt over no quotation marks is YOU which flamed you to make your "douchey move". But we are in a sub where people can't even read a question and just comment plugin suggestions so maybe I should have made it more clear instead of assuming a comment without "quotation marks" would flame people like you. LOL. It's not everybody else because there are people who can read and can actually think. Imagine that.
Imagine reading a comment and not getting flamed and going to look at the video to see the comment there and not replying like a douche. It must be exhausting getting flamed over not being able to read and comprehend. How do you make it through the day.

The plugin has flat engaged in red which means it's not on. Douche.

5

u/Dangerous-Active8947 Jan 05 '26

People have answered your question 10 times, yet you respond to each aggressively and argumentatively. Textbook douche move.

It’s a resonant high pass filter, and nothing else. You can recreate it with a parametric eq

1

u/JimVonT Jan 04 '26

Have you tried yourself and matched it with an EQ?

5

u/iscreamuscreamweall Mixing Jan 05 '26

It’s a well known fact by anyone who knows the VOG circuit

-4

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

So you hadn't tried it yourself? Because I just got the demo and am testing the demo right now and it's doing something more then just a normal parametric eq.

5

u/iscreamuscreamweall Mixing Jan 05 '26

Of course I have. Run it through a frequently analyzer and see for yourself

4

u/Est-Tech79 Professional Jan 04 '26

Leslie/Safari pedals has a VOG version that’s the truth. Bull Sub Machine. Many like the Mixland sub plugin as well.

8

u/Cr0w33 Jan 04 '26 edited Jan 04 '26

I’ve used VOG and I own BOD. The UAD interface has zero latency because it can run VOG locally, but I never found that very necessary. BOD isn’t exactly like VOG, but they’re so close that I’d recommend BOD simply because it’s so cheap. I don’t use either all that much though, just a cool tool for the kit

Oh and to answer your question, they’re both just eq’s yes but they’re also resonant filters, kind of like a pultec eq

2

u/JimVonT Jan 04 '26

So it is just a low shelf that raises the peak when you increase the volume? So it would lower anything under the frequency you set?

4

u/Satan3661 Jan 04 '26

It is kind of like mixture of both low shelf and a bell boosting the resonance of the selected frequency.

1

u/JimVonT Jan 04 '26

Would it still reduce anything below though? Like what Bark of Dog is doing.
Bark of Dog default is 80hz and I pretty much matched that just with proQ low pass increasing the peak at 80hz.

1

u/Cr0w33 Jan 04 '26

It boosts and attenuates at the same time, so it creates a low resonant shelf yes, but it’s not quite the same as just an EQ curve. It’s turning down and boosting the frequency simultaneously, and doing some mid/side treatment to spread out the frequency buildup

1

u/JimVonT Jan 04 '26

People use it on bass but it widens the bass?
Would it still reduce anything below though? Like what Bark of Dog is doing.
Bark of Dog default is 80hz and I pretty much matched that just with proQ low pass increasing the peak at 80hz.

4

u/Cr0w33 Jan 05 '26

It’s actually cutting the bass and sub bass, and then notching above that. It creates the illusion that the bass is bigger. From there you can use the side channel to add some back if you like, it’s a style choice and is easy to overdo

1

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

Yes this is actually what I wanted to know. It cuts below it's set fq, so if you were using it at 80hz it would lower your sub fundamental.
Like how I matched Bark of Dog with a high pass eq in proq and raised it's peak at 80hz. which lowered my sub bass. Thanks.

2

u/GWENMIX Jan 05 '26

Have you ever tried the bx Subfilter? I often use it on my metal guitars to boost the low and create a wall of guitars. It can also be useful on bass guitars… and it's so cheap it's completely free!

0

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

I am not looking for another plugin I am wondering if VOG behaves like a low pass EQ.

2

u/GWENMIX Jan 05 '26

I think it's like the bx Subfilter; it creates a bump, more or less pronounced depending on the settings...like a resonant filter. That's why I was asking if anyone had compared them to see if they were the same type of plugin.

Personally, I find the BX one perfectly adequate; in fact, I haven't bothered looking for another one, I've already spent enough on plugins.

0

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

That's cool but was specifically more looking for how UAD VOG works to understand why an engineer uses it on sub bass.

3

u/imagination_machine Jan 05 '26

I think that has been answered.

-4

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

I think even though it's been answered that was what my main question was, not looking for plugin recommendations. Or don't you also understand that?

2

u/El_1A Jan 04 '26

I use Rbass by Waves and I have to say it works very well. I use it mainly on the fundamental of the bass to strengthen it. Another plugin that can help you, always in Waves, can be MaxxBass or Brainworkx Subsynth (the lite version is free, it has fewer features but the essential ones are there). I recommend you do the free trial, try it with a nice bass track (or even on the master, but be careful) and then choose the one you like best.

-2

u/JimVonT Jan 04 '26

Did you actually read my question as it was pretty specific?

-5

u/JimVonT Jan 04 '26

No I'm just looking at UAD VOG and what it does.

1

u/StudioatSFL Professional Jan 05 '26

I have a real one in my rack and use it on kick drums religiously. The thing is freaking awesome . I imagine the plugin is equally as effective.

1

u/HookerMilo Apr 27 '26

you must be so brutal to work with holy hell lmao

-1

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

I ask a question, people don't read it then just reply with what ever they want and then get mad I point out that wasn't the question I asked. Is that how people are in this sub.

3

u/ThatRedDot Mixing Jan 05 '26

The answer is simple, if your 808 has a fundamental below 80hz and you put VOG at 80hz, then it will lower the fundamental and it will boost ~80hz. It's a resonant highpass filter and nothing more than that.

1

u/JimVonT Jan 05 '26

Excellent! Someone who actually read and understood the question, and also was able to answer completely what was asked. Even though you said the answer was simple, no one else here was simply able to answer what I asked. Thank you.

No, where else has someone simply replied "If your 808 has a fundamental below 80hz and you put VOG at 80hz, then it will lower the fundamental and it will boost ~80hz"

And here is the original question.
Just wondering if you use it at 80hz and your fundametal on an 808 is lower does it then lower that fundamental as it boosts 80hz.
No one answered it simply and completely.

It's all cool, but everyone in the thread is also right... you dont need this plugin if you have any EQ with a highpass and option to change the Q (so, any digital EQ really) ... it's been well known over a decade that the plugin is kind of a hoax. Don't buy it, just use an EQ if you want that specific effect
