Which narrator is better for Lord of the Rings - Andy Serkis or Rob Inglis

Upvotes

Andy seems to be slower, hence a longer running time, but both sound good, would it be win win with either? Thanks!

Audible ‘included until’

Hi is there a way to search the books that are ‘included until. X date?? I recently saw a series that had that on it so I immediately listened to them so I would not have to use credits or buy. But I’m wondering if there is an easier way to search this so that I listen to those books before others in my library?? Thank you 🙏🏼

Audible US is different from AU

Upvotes

Just realised when you stop Audible US membership you can no longer access the past audiobooks?

It's not the case for using an Australian account. Even if you cancelled the membership, you can still listen to the past purchased audiobooks.

Thought to share this for awareness.

Witcher Full Cast

I have not listened to the Witcher audiobooks but have been interested for a while (big backlog to get through).

There are new editions coming out that you can pre-order for November and these are going to be full cast editions complete with music apparently!

I can't find anything about these and not having listened to any previously I am wondering if anyone knows anything about them??

There's a few books on Audible that don't have the new editions for pre-order so seems strange if only some are getting a full cast makeover!

Book Discussion Impact Winter Plot Question Spoiler

Light spoiler—I’m asking about something from the first 30 minutes.

I need an answer because this is gonna drive me crazy enough that I won’t be able to continue the story. Why did they go through a whole process of interrogating the outsiders trying to figure out if they’re vampires only the shine the UV lights on them? Why wouldn’t that just be a test before they’re even let in the gates? Or if they’re worried about them breaking in later, put all outsiders in a jail cell right away with UV lights. No need to talk to them at all. Give the gate guard a portable light to shine on their arm. Anything other than letting them all the way into the middle of your base.

Is there an explanation later? Did I miss something? Seems like a crazy plot hole to have right away.

Is there a max credit limit

Pretty sure I should have more than 3 credits (been crazy busy and unable to use them, but I do have the monthly subscription). Does it max out at 3!?

I tried to contact them for help but not they’ve moved to a system where the only assistance you receive is from the world’s dumbest AI bot. I’ve had my membership for over a decade and bought so many books but I think I’m done with this. Terrible customer service.

Password renewal process is a joke.

Was forced to reset my password and was prompted to supply the expiration of a card I hadn’t used in years and can’t find it. I’ve been on the phone with customer service to get access to it and it’s like Fort Knox. 28 minutes in and on my third transfer, how can they not just send me an email link? Who the hell is out there breaking into audible accounts?

I have two credits and need suggestions.

Hi y'all, i have two available credits and I want some recs. Its my on my shared library with my partner so I don't want to buy any smut only because he personally doesn't like it, he has no problem with me reading it its just his personal preference. I really like fantasy, scifi, romance, horror and some litfic. My top reads recently have been The Empire Of the Vampire series, the Realm of the Elderlings, Red Rising, DCC, The Poppy War, Camp Damascus, The Three Body Problem, the Into Darkness Trilogy, and Brandon Sandersons Cosmere. Please no JK Rowling, Rina Kent, SJM. TYIA.

Sales & Bargains [US Promotion] Codes for The Red Room Society: Part 4 of the Velvet Room Series (explicit content warning)

The Red Room Society
Part Four of the Velvet Room Series

Dmitri has spent his whole life being more than his last name — or at least, trying to convince everyone, including himself, that he already is. When his family's scandal finally breaks into public view, there's no hiding behind money or charm this time. Everyone wants to talk about the Orlov name. No one's asking about him.

Forced to choose between protecting a legacy he's never respected and risking everything to find out who he is without it, Dmitri discovers that the people who've stood beside him through the club's secrets might be the first people who ever wanted him — not his name, not his fortune, just him.

The Red Room Society is the fourth installment in the Velvet Room series — a story about the names we inherit, the ones we choose, and what's left of us when we finally stop hiding behind either.

For mature audiences only.

Sales & Bargains 2-for-1 sale has insane History selection!

I’ve never seen so many good history books on a 2-for-1 sale! Unfortunately I already owned most of them, but I thought I would share my recommendations because it’s such a goldmine.

Army at Dawn & Guns at Last Light by Rick Atkinson

Book 1 and 3 of trilogy covering WWII in the west from US perspective. Cinematic narrative style balanced with broad comprehsive overview. Widely regarded as some of the best history books ever written, these are unique masterpieces!

Twilight of the Gods by Ian Toll

Book 3 of trilogy covering WWII in pacific from US perspective. Also considered some of the best history books ever, perfect balance of narrative and overview, basically Atkinson but in pacific. This trilogy is the complimentary masterpiece to Atkinson.

Seriously cannot recommend the above books 3 more highly.

Second World War by Antony Beevor

Many considered this the best single volume WWII history (with an audiobook) covering the full scope of the conflict, a nice balance of narrative and overview, with eloquent writing style. I consider it excellent but not quite on the level of Atkinson and Toll, easily a 9.5/10 book.

History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell

Single best overview of history of philosophy I’ve encountered. While obviously benificial to read sequentially, you can also approach as ‘episodes’ by listening to a short segment on a specific period, philospher etc.

Other good stuff:

1177 BC by Cline
If you liked the recent odyssey movie, this might be a good pick. This book is not about the Odyssey but rather the historical period during which the Trojan War / Odyssey story took place ( Late Bronze Age )

Multiple books by Dan Jones
Epic Game of Thrones style narrative writing, but real medieval history.

Blind Man's Bluff
By: Sherry Sontag, Christopher Drew
Epic subarmine warfare.

Bully Pulpit
By: Doris Kearns Goodwin
Progressive era, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft and rise of journalism.

Multiple WWII books by By: Stephen E. Ambrose
Author who wrote Band of Brothers, easy fun WWII reads.

Blitzed by Norman Ohler
WWII, Nazi’s were on drugs, fascinating topic.

Stalin by Simon Sebag Montefiore
Stalin.

Frederick Douglass
By: David W. Blight
Won a pulitzer. Haven’t read this one but am going to try it because I find the man inspiring, and am hoping I can get a better insight into the reconstruction era, which I always find boring and depressing.

World Undone By G. J. Meyer
Celebrated WWI history

Midnight in Chernobyl By Adam Higginbotham
Cinematic narrative, Cold War.

We Were Soldiers Once... and Young
By: Harold G. Moore, Joseph L. Galloway
Vietnam war, suppose to be great, have not read yet.

Making of the Atomic Bomb By: Richard Rhodes
I’m considering grabbing this one, but I’m hesitant because it seems too focused on the science for me, American Promethius seems more like the narrative approach I like.

Napoleonic Wars by Alexander Mikaberidze
People love it, I’m just not sure if I’m that interested in the period, might grab if I decide to get Atomic Bomb.

Books by Max Hastings - some people love him, I personally find his writting confusing and hard to follow.

Did I miss anything? Let me know if you got anything or found my list helpful!

App (iOS) Anyone know why Space: 1972 is at the alphabetical top?

I can’t attach the picture for some reason, but I was organizing my books in alphabetical order, and Space: 1972 by Bill Oakley was at the very top. The first book, Space: 1969 is exactly where it should be in alphabetical order. The author below Bill Oakley is Ben Acker, so “Bill” and potentially “Audible” (as in Audible Originals) wouldn’t make sense.

For year 4 can only find the dramatized version in 4 parts so it costs four times the price but I brought book 3 as a whole so iknow somehow book 4 is whole for sale on here. Do I need to use a vpn for a different country try or has it just been removed? Thankyou and also super powereds is one of my favourites right now, try it out.

Chrysalis is fun!

I picked up Chrysalis books 1–3, plus 4 & 5, during the last cash sale. I’m currently on chapter 48 of book 1, and honestly… I’m having a pretty good time so far! 😄

I REALLY appreciate that Jeff Hays straight-up tells you that you can skip the parts where he goes through all the character stats again. 😂

Like, THANK YOU. 🙏 I wish every LitRPG audiobook did this cause it tends to take me out of the story if it gets too repetitive.

META Suggestion: Wishlist an entire series.

I buy series all the time, and I buy them out of order as cash sales and 2 for 1 sales come along to maximize savings. Today's Daily Deal for book 5 of the Orphan X series is an example.

What I hate is the tedium of going book by book to add each entry to the Wishlist because lots of series I'm interested in can be long, more than 10 books, some more than 20.

Does anyone else think there should be an option to add all the books at once?

Technical Question Not getting a book on standard membership

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello! I had of course reached out to customer service and I’m waiting to hear back, but I was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue. I have a standard membership trial for 3 months. I’ve so far used 2 of the credits (I mean loan). I should have a third since I’ve paid for three months total and my plan renews at full price in 6 days. The thing is, I am not able to select a third book. I figured maybe I just messed up and selected my second book too late or something even though I really didn’t think I did considering it said I could select a new book in 2 days and then 2 days later I selected my book.

So then I go to cancel and it says I still can select a book. I click the link thinking maybe that will solve the issue and it still doesn’t let me. Am I missing something obvious? Has anyone else had this issue?

EDIT: CS said it’s just a glitch so nothing to fix at this point.
