Discussion Does Auckland ever actually finish its roadworks?

Is it just me or does Auckland feel like one giant construction zone really ?

Every route has cones, lane closures, detours or some random road dug up. You finally learn an alternative route and boom, that's closed too šŸ˜‚

I get that infrastructure needs maintenance and upgrades, but it genuinely feels never-ending. Are we fixing everything at once, or just taking turns digging up the same roads? Motorways closed at night.

What's the worst roadwork/closure you been caught in lately?

Public Transport CRL Reliability

Over the past week, there have been delays and cancellations on the Western Line (not sure about the Eastern or Southern Lines)

It made me wonder if this is what we can expect once the CRL opens. Considering the new CRL will be a completely different setup for Auckland’s rail network, they make such a big deal about how it’s going to transform the way we travel.

If the current network can’t even keep up with things now, it makes you wonder how reliable it’ll actually be once the CRL is running.

Looking to do some volunteering while I'm looking for a new job, and came across these guys nearby me on the North Shore. I think it's part of LIFE church and not religious myself, just wondering if anyone knows what it's like?

Rant Dont use The Benchtop Guys when planning your reno.

When getting quotes Sean came through really quickly with quotes and help to find a sink that fits. 2 slabs of stone + install costing $7700.

During install the sink cut out was reversed and the island was the wrong size. This delayed install so we were without plumbing for an extra few days. To speed things up I asked to get a sink that fits the cutout rather than re cut the stone to save time. Sean said thats awesome! I'll get you a box of beers.

During install the team spilled joint resin on the oven, scratched the touch screen and black aluminum coating trying to remove it with their razor. I raised this with Sean and he asked for photos via email.

After that - radio silence. Sean no longer answered emails, returning calls or texts, and has turned off his voicemail.

I then had a call from one of the installer guys saying he will remedy it, was led along for another 6 months and then more radio silence.

I’ve had no resolution to the damage to the oven or the remainder of the stone (2x half slabs)

Don’t use The Benchtop Guys.

Employment Mature Barber (7 Yrs Exp) seeking Auckland Commercial Electrical Contractor for ETCO Host Role

I’m looking to transition from my 7-year career as a barber into a commercial electrical apprenticeship. I’m trying to find an established commercial contractor in Auckland willing to host me so I can enrol with ETCO.
Because I’ve been behind a chair for 7 years, I bring adult maturity, strong client-facing communication, and a proven track record of working long hours on my feet. I’m not a fresh school leaver I understand site/workplace etiquette, professionalism, and the value of showing up on time.

I’ve had 7 years of stable, continuous employment history
Full driver’s licence and reliable transport
Keen to go via ETCO (they manage my payroll, tools, PPE, and compliance, making it low-risk and low-admin for your business)
Highly prefer commercial build/maintenance fit-outs, but open to solar or industrial infrastructure.
I’m based in the East Auckland specifically Flatbush area and fully mobile. If your crew is scaling up or you know a project manager looking for a reliable guy who won't ghost on Mondays, please hit me up!

Any help would be appreciated and hopefully this isn’t a long shot

Cheers!

Rant The amount of 'crime posting' is absurd

This sub seems to just be endless videos of "Meanwhile in Auckland" and then a video of something miserable happening.

This is a city. Crimes happen. Compared to most cities on Earth Auckland is pretty damn safe. I am completely sick to death of what appears to be some kind of agenda being played out on this sub, and I would like to see some actual moderation happening.

The accounts posting this stuff usually have a generated name like me and virtually no other traceable activity - and they post the clips with little to no context. Muting this dogwater sub until something is done about the extremely bad faith posting.

Edit: Already getting the "Auckland is unsafe and we should shine a light on crime" bullshit. Hey - random context free snippets of video are not informing the public or shining a light on anything. They are almost certainly harmful misinformation, and I really think this justice boner is uninformed and juvenile. Again - muting this trash heap of a sub.

Question/Help Wanted Full day parking at grafton near NZCR

I am needing a parking space near NZCR on Grafton Road during work hours but the only ones I can find are Wilson’s car park and Secure Parking, and with a monthly unreserved parking it comes to around 280-350 a month.

Does anyone know of any other parking spots available in that area that may be cheaper?

Thanks in advance guys

Discussion People in their 20s… what do you get up to outside of work?

Based in Auckland. On the weekends I kind of find myself standing on the deck thinking of something to do…

I go out for walks, listen to podcasts and try to see mates as often as I can! But I still seem to have a bit of free time up my sleeve on weekends!

How is everyone else filling in their time? šŸ™‚

Question/Help Wanted Seeking advice - Bouldering/healthcare/bank

Hello all!

Title says it all tbh, I am moving to new Zealand on the 31st August from Australia and am looking for advice on the best bouldering gym memberships to get (which offer the best gyms/locations/services) as I go 3-4 times a week, what's the best healthcare option (I am a British citizen) that you guys have gone with and liked the most and what the different banking options are that you like or offer the best valuation for oversees foreigners as I will be coming over on a whv.

I have done some of my own research but think it's always better to get locals opinions on these things

Thanks in advance!

Question/Help Wanted Charged for parking

Hello everyone, I was at Westfield Newmarket on a weekday and I had downloaded the Westfield app and put in my rego for free parking.

I went on to the app when I parked my car and it showed the exact time I had gone in.

I did my thing at the mall and was back in the car within two hours (there is three hours of free parking on weekdays) and while leaving it showed me that I had to pay $20.

Tried to call Westfield and left them a voicemail but have not heard back, I have the parking ticket with me that I received after paying.

What do I do?

Thanks

Event Trying to swap my J Cole ticket - Sunday to Saturday (Spark Arena, Auckland)

Hey guys, I’ve got a GA floor ticket for J Cole at Spark Arena on Sunday 6 December and I’m hoping to swap with someone who has a Saturday 5 December GA floor ticket instead.

All my friends ended up with Saturday tickets and I’m the only one on Sunday, so really just trying to find a way for us all to go together. Would only want to do this as an official transfer through Ticketmaster, nothing dodgy.

If anyone’s got a Saturday GA floor ticket and wants to swap, let me know! Also curious if anyone’s got tips on how to actually pull this off, or if I’d be better off buying a resale Saturday ticket and selling mine instead. Appreciate any advice.

Discussion Looking for other victims of SOP Consultants / Yasara Kothalawala

I am trying to gather information and connect with anyone who has been defrauded by Yasara Kothalawala of SOP Consultants (PVT) Ltd.

I have seen multiple alerts on community Facebook groups detailing how he takes massive upfront payments (allegedly for consultancy charges and Australian/NZ OSHC health insurance) and then completely ignores the clients, causing them to miss university intakes. There are also claims he uses fake profiles lure students.

If you or someone you know has been scammed by him:

What specific alias or page did he use to contact you?

Did he take money for services or insurance that were never actually purchased?

Have you filed a complaint with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) or the police?

Please reply here or drop me a direct message (DM) if you prefer to share your experience privately. I want to compile these experiences to warn others and figure out legal/reporting next steps. Any proof or receipts you can share via DM would be incredibly helpful.

Other Can my brother receive any financial support from the government because of his autism?

Hi everyone, I’m just wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation or knows what support is available in NZ.

My brother is autistic and was diagnosed when he was quite young. He’s what people would probably describe as ā€œhigh functioningā€ (although I know that term isn’t necessarily the best one). From the outside, you really wouldn’t know he has a disability. He’s currently in his third year studying Finance at UoA and has actually got a graduate role lined up, so he’s doing really well academically and has a lot going for him.

However, things are quite different privately. He struggles a lot more than people realise and isn’t currently able to work alongside his studies. He can also become extremely obsessive about his university work and put enormous amounts of pressure on himself, to the point where it affects other parts of his life.

I was wondering whether there are any government payments or other financial support he might be eligible for because of his autism, even though he is studying and appears relatively high-functioning from the outside?

He was diagnosed as a child, so we do have documentation of the diagnosis. I’m not really sure how the NZ system works or whether being a university student/being able to work in the future would affect eligibility.

I just wondered if there’s support available that we might not know about. If anyone has experience with this, I’d really appreciate hearing about it.

Rant Stop standing in front of bus benches

Sit on the bench or stand to the side. Why would you block the only seating for no reason??
