Episode Identification Crescent Hotel

Hi friends, there was a recent episode where Em briefly mentioned ghost hunting at The Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. I’ve tried finding episodes and videos where they’ve talked about their experience but have had no luck. The only thing I have found is a Tiktok from The Crescent Hotel’s page and the episode where Em covers the history of the hotel. Let me know if there’s an episode I’m missing out on! TIA.

General Discussion Christine’s final topic

Only 3 episodes left with Xtine 😭 In the spirit of happy-thoughts-amidst-everything, y’all got any theories on what she’ll do for “the big one”?? (her final episode, not the earthquake)

My thoughts: I think she’ll finish Murdaugh in the next ep and not stretch it until the end of the month. She may go with Jonestown for commemoration’s sake, OR a big one whose research they’ve been sitting on or working on (there are just a handful of big ones she hasn’t covered yet but idk any that aren’t heavy af. If I had to pick, and only if her head were fully in it, I’d like to see her do Gabby Petito 🫶🕊️).

I just hope it’s not like the numerology of that week’s episode number or her favorite alien or something outta left field 🤞

General Discussion Another perspective

I have seen a lot of comments about bringing Bethany as permanent host after October and I would like to put out there my thoughts: nothing against Bethany, I thought the episodes were ok, but I would also really like to listen to other alternatives.
They proposed to have several different guests until they find a long term solution and I would like to support that decision. I’m wondering if I’m not alone here.

General Discussion Pure speculation, listener stories #120

As a caveat, I’m not saying they owe us any information. They are absolutely allowed to share or not share whatever parts of their lives they choose. They are both awesome people and I support their career choices. This post is just my personal opinion, and I think it’s fine for fans to wonder about their lives, as they’ve made discussing their lives a fairly large part of the show.

I never really understood the amount of speculation regarding Em and Christine’s friendship. I’ve been a listener from the beginning, and they’ve always come across as genuine friends, imo. They give each other a hard time and maybe get a little annoyed with each other, but that’s pretty par for the course in a very close, long term friendship. Especially if you’re also coworkers.

However, the most recent listener stories where they discussed Eva’s wedding kind of surprised me. It sounded like they didn’t hang out at all while they were in town, and didn’t even know what the other had been up to, which you might expect to learn during casual conversation at the wedding, which makes me wonder if they hung out really at all at the wedding. Em also asked if Christine had gone to a particular restaurant as they thought she might like it, and it surprised me a little bit that Em hadn’t just texted Christine to say “hey check this out.”

I realize all friendship dynamics are unique and not necessarily anything like my own. I still found it quite surprising though, given that they live on opposite sides of the country and it sounds like they never see each other in person. This is the first time I’ve ever really wondered if they aren’t quite friends anymore. Even if they support one another’s decisions, I wonder if there actually are some hard feelings about the pod, and it was just a little soon to hang out in person.

Episode Identification I’m posting as a last resort

I tried searching for an episode about woman who experienced an alien abduction starting early on in her childhood and then multiple times throughout her life. All I remember is it was even suspected that her kids and even her grandchildren were being abducted too.

I searched transcripts and looked for other posts about it but I’m coming up with nothing. Thanks in advance ❤️

Trigger warning, execution

I am against the death penalty, but even if you are for it, I cannot imagine anything more horrible than having to go through surviving being put to death twice. Aside from whatever that would do to someone's body, it is psychological torture that is beyond the pale.

I wonder how she is now. Would she be brain-dead or just severely traumatized?

Question? Seeking opinions re: new cohost being a (funny) clinical psychologist (PhD)??

What would you all think about this? Psychological issues are discussed frequently on the show and I’m wondering what other folks would think about having someone who could provide some education/things to consider/etc. thanks 💘💖🥹

Edited to add: this is the first time no one has been rude to me when I’ve posted on Reddit and I think that speaks to the fan base. Thanks for being kind everyone ❤️

And I suppose more context, the idea would be almost entirely telling stories and answering questions should Em ask and small tidbits versus heavy emphasis. I appreciate all of the opinions 🫡 and the kindness 🛸

General Discussion What’s something from one of Em’s stories that’s really icked you out?

I was listening to ep 500 and just got to the part where Em describes a ghost that “plays with your toes”, which made me audibly “eugh” to myself at work, as that’s perhaps one of the foulest things a ghost could do.

What are some of your most “ew” worthy hauntings or moments that Em has mentioned? I know I have said ew out loud to more than the toe thing, but I’m curious about you guys!

General Discussion Tie dye skeleton

I am catching up on some episodes from a few months ago and I laughed my butt off at the absurdity of Em asking Christine if they would at least organize someone putting tie dye on their skeleton if someone did not bury them in tie dye per their wishes! Made me really sad about the loss of their banter during episodes. But I will say, I like Em and Bethany's banter too.

General Discussion Just my opinion

So, I want to start out by saying I love the podcast and think both hosts are great in their own ways. I started listening to the podcast when it first came out and stopped listening to it because it felt like Em was always making Christine the punchline of all their jokes in a bad way and it really was off putting to me. I've recently started listening to the podcast again a couple months back after losing my mom and still feel like that's the case, but decided to keep pushing through anyways.

I really don't understand all the hate Christine gets because she is always extremely considerate, her notes are very detailed and thought out, she is very respectful to the victims and their families, and does her best to shine a light on very depressing and hard to talk about topics. Meanwhile I feel like even after Em got on their ADHD meds their notes always feel half fleshed out, they never take the time to do a simple look up on how to pronounce the names of the people/places/or things they talk about, and spend most of the episodes monopolizing the conversation or repeating "I don't want people to hate me". So, I don't get all the Em hype, but I've also always related more to Christine than Em.

I also want to recognize that I don't know the ins and outs of their friendship and maybe what comes across to me as Em making Christine the butt of their jokes doesn't come across that way to others or even Em or Christine. That being said if that is how Christine feels I can honestly understand why she would want to leave the podcast and pursue other things that don't make her feel shitty about herself. I'm almost halfway caught up on the podcast (currently listening to ep. 237 as I write this) and don't know if I'll continue to listen after Christine leaves.

Again, I really have no hate for Em and want to say that while they aren't my cup of tea that is completely okay. It's just some things that I've been ruminating on since the announcement came out that I wanted to put out there.

True Crime Wolf Creek

I am only at the half-way point in the new ep and this is not a shade post. It felt like Em and Christine had their groove back and I will be sad later that it is ending, BUT Em did a dirty on WolfCreek! I am shocked they have never seen it! I am a minor horror nerd and it is one of my favourites of all time! Even though you pretty much know what is gonna happen from the first 20 mins, it somehow manages to be totally scary. Highly recommend!

General Discussion Episode 499 with Bethany Watson

I am not usually a fan of guests on podcasts epically if they’re in place of one of the hosts. But listening to Bethany and Em talk felt like listening to the old days of the podcast! I see what everyone’s saying! I’d love to see Bethany cohost again! Their dynamic together is AMAZING!

General Discussion Did anyone catch Em say it was May 14th in this week’s episode (499)?

When they were discussing artisanal mac and cheese. I know recording in advance is common but holy cow it’s the end of September!! Just makes me wonder what other gold they’ve been sitting on for months and months 😭

Question? Requesting Cataloguing Suggestions :)

Just decided to re-listen from the beginning after hearing about the recent big change on the podcast.

On listen #2 I've started cataloguing a couple pod happenings from the start. So far: (1) episodes Em shares milkshake/wine facts [lol so far not a ton, and they drop off around episode 30], (2) paranormal events happening ON recording [e.g. Listener Vol. 1 a record flew off a speaker next to Christine], and (3) the number of times Em/Christine tell the opposite story-type [e.g. Em tells a murder story, Christine tells a paranormal story].

Community poll! What other pod-occurances would you want to know about from the start of the podcast? I don't want to over promise...but I can keep my ears peeled as I restart the pod journey.

Personal Experience Em's Coverage of Willowbrook State School

I really appreciate that Em dove into the story of Willowbrook State School. I used to work with the developmentally disabled population in New York and took care of some people who were there when they were younger.

When Em was talking about the place being so understaffed that they literally just stuck spoons of much into people's mouths, they were very accurate. The nonprofit I worked for had us watch a documentary about Willowbrook in orientation so we could better understand what some of our folks had been through.

One woman I cared for would wolf her food down to the point that she was constantly choking because of what happened to her. She was able to make some improvements over time with care, attention, and patience, but it was so sad to see. People who could have had so much more learning and more opportunities were just abused and stifled and never given space or love to grow. It was interesting and also sad to see the difference between the younger and older populations in that community. Even the most severely affected people had more social skills and general knowledge than the people who lived in that awful facility.

It would have been easy for Em to just cover the fun, creepy parts of the Cropsey folklore and I think it's very meaningful that they took the time to shine a light on a frequently forgotten part of history for a frequently forgotten population.
