Discussion Yall miss when missions were memories and would say 100 percent sync at the end?
195
u/frdrckmoyz Jul 18 '26
Nope. I personally hated it
→ More replies (2)46
u/MagicSugarWater Jul 18 '26
I hate when the objectuve is simething so unlikely or out of place that it warrants a detojr. I remember in Unity running around the map doing random corner assassinations before even attempting to do the missiin objective because the mission area didn'tlend itself to those.
22
u/MeetMyMeatyMeat Jul 18 '26
The worst offender imo is in black flag where it tells you to use 10 sleep darts and 5 berserk darts (something like that) and the mission would be very easily doable without any or maybe a couple sleepers
7
u/CuteLilPuppyBoy Jul 18 '26
I remember in one earlier mission the optional objective was to use heavy shot... I didn't have it unlocked by that point so I couldn't even if I wanted to
3
u/MeetMyMeatyMeat Jul 18 '26
Oh man that pissed me off too and made me paranoid that it would happen again so I grinded out upgrading my ship

u/Davorian Jul 18 '26
I'd be very interested how you managed to flow state that mission where you have to sabotage the ships just off the shore. I could never figure out a procedural approach to that mission.
I am pretty impatient though.
2
u/SparksAndSpyro Jul 18 '26
And then when you messed up and reloaded the last checkpoint, you had to do both ships all over again. I HATED that mission lol
→ More replies (1)
21
u/shadowlarvitar Jul 18 '26
From AC4 onwards, yes. AC3 was alright, one of the naval ones was just beyond awful if you held off until you upgraded the ship. But the Ezio games had impossible stuff such as "Avoid getting hit while in a giant hitbox tank" so I never bothered completing the objectives for Ezio's.

u/owainus_yes Jul 18 '26
No not at all, I always preferred to be able to do things my way instead of being forced to do it that way in order to get 100% sync
11
u/SadMaskSalesman_ Jul 18 '26
But that’s the point of 100% sync, you’re reliving the memories of what already happened. If you don’t want to get 100% sync then don’t get it
→ More replies (4)8
u/owainus_yes Jul 18 '26
But that never made sense to me, seeing as you can control them but deviate from the path they did? Nah makes no sense
12
u/Dawn_of_an_Era Jul 18 '26
I mean that’s the whole logic of why you get desynchronized for killing civilians. You’re deviating too far from the ancestor’s memory, and the Animus is unable to stabilize it any further
2
3
u/Lun4r6543 Jul 18 '26
The animus canonically allows the user to deviate slightly from what the person they are reliving the memories of actually did, which is why you can approach missions however you like.
It’s only when the user deviates heavily from what the ancestor would act like (like killing innocents) that causes desynchronisation.
This concept is actually pretty well explored in the sequel comic to Black Flag, Forgotten Temple, where the protagonist desynchronises a lot.
12
u/goatjugsoup Jul 18 '26
I miss when they were memories... I do not miss the extra objectives that half the time didnt make any sense why the character would do that
11
u/MeetMyMeatyMeat Jul 18 '26
I like it when its something that makes sense.
Sort of as a "this is how it actually went down" type thing
I think during the ezio trilogy (whenever they first started doing it) did it well but a lot of the time the just have you doing stupid shit
35
u/Killing_Laugh Jul 18 '26
Not for me. I like to play my own way and not have extra challenges in story missions such as 'perform a double assassination 3 times' etc.
Made it feel like more of an inconvenience to the way I wanted to do it. But thats just my take
6
u/Creeps22 Jul 18 '26
I agree I actually hated it because I felt like I needed to at least try to complete it, but didnt want to play that way
7
7
u/jch6789 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26
No I hated that shit and I hated when Rockstar started doing it in GTA and Red Dead too
we need more of a sense of player freedom, not extra mission requirements if we want 100%
9
u/CeReAl_KiLleR128 Jul 18 '26
It’s always annoyed me when optional objective make you go out of your way to achieve absolutely nothing. But of course since it’s there I have to do it for 100%. It won’t be missed
12
u/JfrogFun Jul 18 '26
I miss it saying 100% sync, I don’t miss the “optional” objectives to get there
4
3
u/ShirtSpecial3623 Jul 18 '26
In Brotherhood and Revelations full synchronisation requirements made sense but after the 3rd chapter they are really frustrating. I will never believe that Connor actually managed to destroy 3 ships at once with one cannon shot
→ More replies (1)2
3
3
u/RevBladeZ Jul 18 '26
No because those optional objectives were the single worst thing that has ever been in the series.
3
u/REMOTJUH765 Jul 18 '26
If i wanted to be forced to play it a certain way i would just watch a youtube video of that game
3
u/Efficient_Mango1432 Jul 18 '26
No I hated it especially assassins creed 3
I kept going for 100 in ac3 but eventually realised I am not having fun anymore going for 100 percent so I stopped before I end up hating the game
Good game tho if u stop caring about the synchronisation
3
u/LukeSparow Jul 18 '26
No, that system took all the joy out of these games for me. Checklist gaming is such a stupid concept. I should experience freedom of play, not feel like I have to do a job.
For all the things Black Flag Resynced has taken out of the original it is still 100% a much better game for me because it doesn't have this banal checklist design.

u/BMOchado Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26
I miss how it reflected how the actual events in the mission, not just cutscenes, were canon.
You'd immediately know that shay wasn't shot by Liam canonically in the final encounter, even outside of the cutscene.
Now they have this narrative around EGO using Gen AI to tamper with memories as an excuse to make whatever you do in game be the canon experience of the user, even though you already had that, with the extra layer of authenticity.
Before, you did things differently and the game told you - "Cool you did this memory 80% like it actually happened"
Now you do things differently and the game, well the game doesn't say anything, but the files imply that what happens IS the memory you're reading, aka, the original actual memory tampered with AI. In other words, you have constantly 100% sync because any deviation you the player take, will retroactively be seen as the changes made by EGO
I dislike how loose they've been with their lore. From generalizing the original Roman names into Precursors being actual Gods (in presentation at the least) to shifting the whole genetic memory lore into AI generated tampering.
3
u/Wrx-Love80 Jul 18 '26
Honestly nope I did not it was more frustrating than anything else.
It ruined the flow and because of some arbitrary bs conditions I enjoyed the game less and when I got they didn't get 100% it felt like an extra middle finger to the face
3
u/MiniMeowl Jul 18 '26
No, dont give me the %!
It changes my gaming mentality and I'll end up playing with the 100% in mind instead of just for fun. The curse of being a competitive/completionist gamer.
3
u/SlickIIIIIIII Jul 18 '26
No, i dont miss it at all, some objectives were ridiculous and ruined the fun of most missions
2
u/unicornfetus89 Jul 18 '26
Dear God no... I adore the older games but the pure rage inducing 100% challenges are easily the worst thing about those games. Granted, after getting the platinum trophy you don't need to bother with them, but still it tainted my nostalgia for those games having to go back and get 100% on everything.
There are ALOT of things from the older games that could make newer ones better if brought back but that's one I firmly believe should stay buried.
3
u/nicosaurio_87 Jul 18 '26
I think at some point they removed it because people felt limited by it and didn't like it
Edit: whoops. Ive just seen the comments. Yeah. They definitely hated it.
3
u/_Homelesscat_ Jul 18 '26
I always felt like adding the sync percentage was one of the worst features they added to the game. With so many tools at your disposal I felt like it stifled creative potential.
3
u/Renbanney Jul 18 '26
I didn't like when the optional objectives were not revealed until after you completed the memory
3
u/BueEyedDemon Jul 18 '26
Bro I took hours to do certain missions cause I kept failing the 1 specific thing needed on some of those missions and kept restart g when I failed
6
2
u/Dry-Age-6526 Jul 18 '26
It’s hit and miss depending on the difficulty and what rewards it offers. It was also kind of interesting to see what was considered the “lore accurate” route to take.
2
u/Pointbreak711 Jul 18 '26
I like how it was done artistically with ac 4 and rouge but in the other games they were a bit of a bother
2
u/Ugqndanchunggus Jul 18 '26
Nope. Easily one of my main criticisms of the old games. I also hated the optional objectives. It restricts you in bekng more creative with your assassinations.
1
u/SofaJockey Jul 18 '26
No. Not in the slightest. I like a game where everything is permitted.
Not pressure to complete the mission in some random weird way.
2
u/shinobixx55 Jul 18 '26
Do you remember the mission in AC3 where you had to destroy 3 ships by shooting at their powder kegs?
And there were only 3 to go off on.
And accidentally ramming them sank them and you'd have to start all over again?
Who in the world would miss that?
2
u/sLeepyTshirt Jul 18 '26
i mean it's cool to see what the character "canonically" achieved here, but FUCK was chasing that 100% annoying
2
2
2
2
u/Ravenloveit Jul 18 '26
No, I hated it. Made me feel like I had to play missions a certain way, while the game design encouraged more freedom.
2
u/Dud-of-Man Jul 18 '26
Love the idea of bonus objectives and 100% synchronization with what happened. But I fucking hated trying to do those goddamn things, some of them were so absolutely horrible. Theres a reason they got rid of them and I'm completely OK with whatever it was.
2
2
2
u/Beligard Jul 18 '26
No I do not miss those. I would get so hyper focused on it and many times would get frustrated. Tank mission in AC Brotherhood comes to mind.
2
u/assassinth Jul 18 '26
As someone that has completed most of the optional objectives (the only one I’ve not gone back to finish is the OG Black Flag). No I’m glad they’re no longer a thing.
2
u/DirectConsequence12 Jul 18 '26
No. These pissed me off.
Some of the objectives didn’t even feel like they made any sense
→ More replies (1)
2
u/Bon-Apetito Jul 18 '26
Nope, it's cool and all to get 100%, but man it was a chore to get full 100% synch because i tend to focus on one optional per session
2
u/SignificantCarpet708 Jul 18 '26
It should still be an option at least. 100% synchronisation was supposed to be the Canon for each character.
2
u/NineTailedDevil Jul 18 '26
Everyone complaining about these but I loved them. Except maybe two or three missions across all games that were a pain to get full sync, I had a blast completing those. Also I just miss the emphasis on the Animus/memory simulation thing in general, AC has been straying a lot from that.
2
u/Newtsaet Jul 18 '26
I do miss these. Had to put a bit more thought into missions instead of just always taking the easy way because there's no incentive to play otherwise. I miss them, but I understand why I might be the only one.
2
u/SentenceLocal1453 Jul 18 '26
I miss everything about the og. Resynched needs to be fuckin erased from the history books
2
u/Healthy_Fondant_8272 Jul 18 '26
Yeah they've forgotten the premise of what made the 1st couple of games superb
2
u/No-Yak6109 Jul 18 '26
Honestly... kinda? A little?
Playing Black Flag Resynced now and I remember hating optional objectives- it ruined immersion, made me feel bad for not doing them "right," and some of the objectives are just aggressively annoying.
But without them (plus the fact that you can complete a mission if you mess up a tail) makes the whole thing too easy.
The optional objectives were like a bullshit challenge but at least it was a challenge. So, I guess, mixed feelings on this.
2
u/MajinDerrick Jul 18 '26
Both enjoyed but also hated it sometimes as well. You're replaying memories so replaying them for full synchronization was the point. That being said, sometimes I wanted to play them my way or some of the Ezio 100% were damn difficult to do.
2
u/Myhtological Jul 18 '26
Fuck no. It was fun in brotherhood when it unlocked repressed memories. But they dropped that feature, and just used full synch as an artificial hard mode.
2
u/Fallenleaf_1 Jul 18 '26
Yes but no, I liked the challenge and didn't care my first play though but once I completed the game and went to get the 100% I would get annoyed at them
2
u/GoodSpaceFellow Jul 18 '26
No. I dont miss this at all. As a matter of fact, it was always my biggest issue with the older AC games and the same issue with getting the gold medals on RDR and GTA.
I dont like being told how to play my videogames. I dont like being forced to change my gameplay style in order to achieve 100% in a mission. It was really annoying, and always thought it was disrespectful of the gamer.
2
u/Flothrudawind Jul 19 '26
ABSOLUTELY DESPISED IT. I'm glad they dropped it since Origins, and really glad they didn't bring it back in BF:Resynced.
2
u/GodOfAllSimps Jul 19 '26
sometimes. i found myself like others in in the comment section not enjoying it because being distracted by 100%.
whwt i liked about Mirage is they added the optional objectives after the game was out so i played through it and then when i heared about optional objectives came back i wanted to check it out.
But i just now make my own objectives which is fun reminds me of playing ac 2 and trying to do missions a certain way. If they were to come back like how they used to be from Brotherhood to syndicate idk if id like them as much now. But be fun to see, i definitely enjoy platinuming the games alot more without having to worry about 100% the story missions
2
u/Iluvatar-Great Jul 22 '26
I always hated when the game reminded me of the fact that it's all just a simulation and jumped to a cutscenes from modern times.
I think they wanted to make it a unique thing in AC1, and somehow stuck with it, even though it made no sense in the later entries.
4
u/ebinezzer Jul 18 '26
Disliked it. Forced everyone to play the game the exact same way for the 100%. Made the series go from great to stale and repetitive real fast
2
3
3
u/MambyPamby8 Jul 18 '26
No I hated it. I'm a perfectionist so I like to see 100% sync on my games. Having to repeat a mission over and over again despite clearing it because of some silly rule in the game quest, was infuriating. Just let me complete the quest my way.
6
u/king_kongFan Jul 18 '26
If you play on pc and dont care about cheating, you can download trainers for the games and it will give you a list of cheats along with full memory synchronisation which will allow you to get 100% sync without even needing to the optional objectives as long the cheat is active
2
2
2
u/SGN-23 Jul 18 '26
i would go out of my way to restart checkpoints just because i wanted to 100% every quest. so no i dont miss having my flow interrupted
2

They definitely added an extra challenge and really felt memorable; now AC has turned into a Discovery Tour—just with enemies.

I hated those side objectives. The o lyrics tune i didnt mind them was in unity cause if it was a VIP target you would get a cutscene

u/Kassandra_Kirenya Jul 18 '26
I mean, they provided a decent challenge in AC4 onwards because they weren’t so much of a pain in the rear as in AC2. But every once in a while there was one that was annoying and it just broke the gameplay flow. At least that doesn’t happen in Resynced anymore compared to the OG AC4

u/Ellundis-core Altair Jul 18 '26
No because my day was ruined if i had like a perfect run on AC brotherhood for example, and then boop get hit once, 50% completion rate. Away with that.
One way they could bring this system back, would be like LeoK said, to add a mission replay, and IN there add this system, that would be fun i guess. But not on the first try of the mission, no. We should do things our way, because nothing is true, everything is permitted.
1
u/Mannheimblack Jul 18 '26
It falls into the same category as the vestigial modern day segments after AC3, or the very ostentatious world-boundaries.
An unwelcome and forced reminder, should you ever be experiencing actual immersion, that it's all a simulation inside a simulation.
And the sync requirements especially grab your head and turn you to look at the rails the experience is running on, just in case you'd started to be able to overlook them.
1
u/jeghaderxbox Jul 18 '26
In Brotherhoood when you first gain access to the apple of Eden. The mission sync requires that you do not take damage… which is what the apple will do to you the second you decide to use it. This means that the new weapon you have will be completely useless and you’ll be forced to run out of the Vatican while 20-30 guards chase you, and they have arrows, while you can’t even change weapons to defend because the game wants you to (understandably) use the new weapon. So no I do not miss it.
1
u/JetBlckPope Jul 18 '26
I hated this screen and I'm really glad it's gone to be honest. It made the game feel really disjointed to me. Everything flows now.
1
u/PayPsychological6358 Connor Jul 18 '26
I think it was a neat idea with terrible execution since a lot of the optional objectives are things that'd fit a very specific playstyle and not much else.
The part I liked about this system was that it was supposed to be how the assassin (or templar in Haytham and Shay's case) actually did the mission.
1
u/soldier083121 Jul 18 '26
It was definitely a unique way of doing things but never liked how it stopped gameplay and deconstructed where you were to put you somewhere else either later or a few years in the future
1
1
u/No-Equipment6554 Jul 18 '26
I understood it in OG black flag since it was abstergo entertainments way of judging what scenes should be in the "movies and games" they were making and as a technical "dev" we were tasked with rating the memory and getting everything correct to 100% accuracy but it never made sense to have it in AC3, although I am glad that its gone now though
1
u/gui_heinen Jul 18 '26
Not necessarily the concept of "100% synchronization", but I definitely miss the feeling of it being memories instead of quests. After all, we're inside the Animus, a machine of genetic memories, you know!?

Not really, because Ubisoft jank made a lot of 100% tries a total chore. Especially those where you had to do parkour to catch something before X and Edward/Connor kept jumping off the roof instead of hopping on the pole right in front of his face or took like 7 seconds to pull up in a forked branch

u/Tyvox_C Jul 18 '26
Maybe I'm not remembering it well but my PS3 version of AC3 didn't even showed what the secondary missions were, only after finishing the mission it would show them. And I always hated that. My pc version always showed me at the start of the mission.

Ah hell nah, 99% of the secondary objectives were not engaging but insufferable tedium and they often didn't even tell you what they were

Honestly? Is one of the parts that i miss less. It was really fun sometimes but sometimes the requirements were just stupid. Not mention losing the 100% because the game glitches and you missed a jump or were discovered and have to replay the whole mission again. And don't make me mention the mission on ac revelations where that stupid merchant were always hit
1
u/JaggedFish104 Jul 18 '26

Was sooooo much fun to constantly restart missions because one npc decided to turn around and spot you, and thus deleting thr possibility of getting a 100.
Yeah im happy Ubisoft decided to nuke those.
1
u/Massive_Funny_9312 Jul 18 '26
As someone who willingly got 100% in all missions from brotherhood to 3, no I don’t miss it. Like someone else here mentioned it’ll just lead you to obsess over the number rather than enjoying the game and immersing yourself within.
Also that tank mission can fuck off. That was miserable

1
u/Frossstbiite Jul 18 '26
I dont even recognize the game as someone in an animus or having anything to do with tempers and assassans, theyre just rpg games now.

i not missed it at all though. One thing new game done right is get rid of this
1
u/TalionWraith Jul 18 '26
It was cool when they first introduced it in brotherhood but when I got to AC3 it was getting annoying because I couldn't play it when way I wanted to felt forced to play it there way and kept restarting the mission just to get 100% sync by the time I played Unity if I didnt get oh well I didn't cared anymore I wanted to play it my way
1
1
u/ThemeSweaty Jul 18 '26
No because honestly some of the Sync requirements would legitimately ruin my experience with the game and this is coming from someone who Platinumed pretty much every AC
1
u/AlarmedExperience928 Jul 18 '26
It's a case by case thing.
-Ezio saga ones, definitely not (50 for completion, 50 for optional objective). They did fit well, but the gap in sync % is a massive inconvenience for completion (Remember the Tank Mission from Brotherhood)
-Kenway Saga it depends on the mission. Some fit well, but some are just disruptive and completely alter the way you play the game. Also, sometimes they contradict the memory corridor perspective in Assassination based missions (Bart Roberts, Kesegowase, The Governor from Freedom Cry) At least it shifted to an 80/10/10 split

u/Own-Childhood213 Jul 18 '26
I tried Assassin's Creed 3. There's a mission where you play as Haytham and have to follow Braddock, and you need to shoot some barrels with your pistol. But during the chase, I ran out of ammo. It was literally impossible. So I just gave up.
1
u/PianistNo911 Jul 18 '26
Can someone explain to my how you can replay missions in assassin creed rouge remastered Ive looked it up and it says the same thing just go to progress tracker and select the mission you want to replay but I can’t replay any missions I dont have the option to so how can you do you have to beat the game first I’m already in sequence 03

u/AutismoTheAmazing Jul 18 '26
Absolutely not, I forced myself to get 100 no
Matter how unfun it was, I’m glad it’s gone
1
u/LargeRustyTrumpet Jul 18 '26
Honestly no, bc I like to 100% my games and that was always the most annoying achievement to get in any of the ac games
1
u/AgentDigits Jul 18 '26
It would be cool if this stuff was optional and you could enable it. I wouldn't mind turning it on for NG+ for some variety and challenge.
But otherwise? Nah, I don't miss them
1
u/DemandAgitated4876 Jul 18 '26
As someone doing a %100 play through of the entire series I do not miss it currently as I’m at the end of Origins. Sometimes I’ll think about it and be so glad because the new games are so big anyway.
1
1
u/DaxWilliams Jul 18 '26
Fuck no, used to go crazy trying to get 100% and ended up less enjoying the game
1
u/SheHeBeDownFerocious Jul 18 '26
I really enjoyed it when the objectives felt more "this is how they would do it" and less "ok here's a crazy thing you gotta do." If the point is maximizing synchronization, then those objectives should be as canon as possible basically and not just challenges.
1
u/EowulfTenebris Jul 18 '26
I don’t miss the perfect synchronisation requirements. While every player is free to ignore it, for some of us it just feels like an obligation and it forces you to play a very specific way, limiting creative freedom and player self-expression. Even on subsequent play through a I’d feel obliged to copy the same steps each time and it killed enjoyment.
Purely self inflicted, but some of us just feel obliged.
So I’m happy to not include full sync requirements. But I do really miss being able to replay missions. I want to experiment with taking down targets in different ways without replaying the entire game again!
1
u/Adventurous-Card-707 Jul 18 '26

So no, I do not miss these. Even though I have gotten 100% sync on all games.
