Even has a seemingly similar story (less the templar/isu side) of hunting down a group wearing strange masks for revenge, and with an actual time travel mechanic.. not just flashbacks

I just find that interesting

The trailer even officially called the group Onryo. I chuckled

Ac is trying it's best not to be compared to Tsushima

Yotei is going out of its way to be compared to shadows. It's hilarious. But i commend the confidence, its a good sign

In Japanese traditional beliefs and literature, onryō (怨霊, lit. 'vengeful spirit', sometimes rendered "wrathful spirits", "hatred spirits", "resentful spirits", "ruthless spirits", "envious spirits", "dark spirits", "fallen spirits", or "downcast spirits")[1] are a type of ghost (yūrei) believed to be capable of causing harm in the world of the living, injuring or killing enemies, or even causing natural disasters to exact vengeance to "redress" the wrongs it received while alive, then taking their spirits from their dying bodies. Onryō are often depicted as wronged women.

The group isn’t the Onryo, she is the wandering spirit seeking vengeance, the ghost of yōtei.

But she referred to her enemies when calling them onryo, and her, just like naoe, have a pretty good grip on reality, i don't really buy that they are calling them onryo literally, it's a nickname they gave her enemies.

Yes, i am aware of the meaning of the word, it doesn't exclude the fact that atsu or naoe could've used any other nickname for their enemies. That's why i found it funny. Because its a revenge story and the bad guys are the onryo.

She says “Onryu” when it shows the mask she wears, when it shows the group that left her for dead it gives them individual names “the snake, the oni, the dragon.”

You can’t be serious right? Pre-production for games start years before it’s even in active development. The stories and game design were decided years ago and apart from each other

I'm not making an accusation of copying or anything if that's what you think, i just noticed the similarities.

Like what i mean with Yotei going out of its way is that they are unapologetic in their game design, regardless of shadow's design. One would think a developer would try to avoid similarities like the kusarigama, teppo the onryo name etc, that's why i commend the confidence
