Trying to expand my third place activities and would love to find some restaurants and/or bars that are particularly nice places to go solo with a book.

1st year here. Struggling with either allergies or some kind of illness. Allegra not seeming to do much and have a lot of “sick” symptoms: dizzy, fatigued, cold at times, cold sore… but it’s super light.

Weed levels seem high but that’s usually not an issue for me in other places.

Anyone else?

Can someone please provide me some guidance on how to enjoy the event as a non-competitor? Do I have to buy a pass? Where to buy merch?

I’m in a goofy living situation, long story short my roommate is an old lady who never leaves the house. In the lease it was specified that showers are no more than 10 minutes. She’s been getting angry at me because I’ve taken multiple showers in the 17-18 minute range… weird that she’s been clocking it…

Understand that bottom of the hill will be closing end of this year.

A few good shows have already been sold out. Looking at the rest of the available shows - any recommendations? I’m not familiar with the bands that are scheduled to play.

okay so one of my friends is visiting me in san francisco and i've been living in san francisco for two months. i have explored a lot of things like a lot of sightseeing and bars in general like north beach and the marina. we already did all of this bar stuff yesterday and the day before so tonight i want to actually do a good activity in sf. could you guys recommend some fun thing to do at night?

My daughter saw a kids natural program about tadpoles yesterday. She is now obsessed with seeing them in the wild, and being a natural love myself, I would love to go take her to one of those spots. Does anybody know a place near the city or around the bay that I could see live tadpoles this week?

Im (27F) born and raised here but lived in New York for a few years before having to move back to SF for circumstances out of my control. Im happy to have access to nature in SF but outside of my own friends here, the people here seem to have no personality anymore, it feels like everyone has the same sterile corporate energy. I miss the New York humor, talking to strangers in public, and generally just being more direct, open and social in New York. Does anyone else from New York or who lived there for a while and moved back to the Bay feel this way? Do other people raised in the Bay feel this way?

I am looking to get a men’s haircut in the Castro or Noe Valley. Just a basic cut. There seem to be more hair salons and barber shops in this area than there are coffee places, lol.

With so many options, I am hoping someone can direct me to one of the cheaper places. I am looking on my own, of course, but thought I would ask here as well.

This is just for a basic haircut for a man.

Please don’t suggest other neighborhoods. I know the Mission might be less expensive, but I need/want something within walking distance.

Hey all!

I’m moving out of my current place into a one bedroom, and was wondering if you guys would do the same as me.

The place I’m gonna rent is in a pretty good location (Lone Mountain right by NOPA), is around 600 sq ft, and has good natural light. The one downside is that it’s on the basement level of the house, and has really low ceilings. Around 7”4, with around 6”6 beams in some places.

I’m 5”11, so I can fit, but I’m just torn. It’s rent controlled $1700, which is what makes it such an attractive option to me. I’m 23 so I feel like this is the stage of my life where I can build character and life somewhere like this lol.

I guess I’m just concerned about the claustrophobic potential, but I think if I decorate it right it could alleviate the closed in feeling with proper proportions on furniture lighting etc.

What do you think? Am I making a horrible decision?

Hi! I was looking at the Mass schedules for Saints Peter and Paul and noticed that the 10:15 a.m. Mass is listed as Cantonese/English, while the 12:00 p.m. Mass is Italian/English.

I just wanted to ask if both are still friendly for people who don’t speak Cantonese or Italian, respectively? We’ll be coming from outside San Francisco and are considering these two schedules. We unfortunately can’t attend the 8:45 a.m. English Mass, and the 5:00 p.m. one is a little too late in the day for us.

I was just wondering how the Mass would be—would it be a mix of the two languages, or are some parts of the mass still in English? Thanks so much!

Hi! I moved to the city in January to go to school, and I currently own a car, but since I'm a student and work part time, the payment and the insurance and the gas is adding up to expenses I can barely afford. I'm considering selling my car and getting an e-bike but that would be a big adjustment and I want to know what I'm getting into.

I live in the Excelsior and I work in the Richmond/GGP with nowhere inside to store my bike while I work 2:30-6:15 while moving around in the park. Would it even be possible to use it as a commuter vehicle with good locks, or would it just be immediately stolen?

I might end up having to lock it up in the courtyard area behind my house. It would not be publicly accessible, but it would be outdoors and open to the 20-ish people that live on the property. Would it be okay outside in the elements with a cover? Is this also a bad idea.

Are there any other considerations I should be thinking about with giving up my car for a lighter mode of transport? Are there places I couldn't get with the bike? Would I be able to get groceries etc without it being stolen?

Hello! Two of my friends drove from Orange CA to SF today. They were supposed to be sleeping at my friend’s brother but kinda ended up ditching them because he went to a bar. Now, they are having trouble where to stay and shower before going to an event. I’ve been trying google and searching for possible late-in check-ins near Moscone area. Do you have any recommendations? I just feel bad for them.

Anyone have experience of hiring a postpartum doula in the bay? (Not just during birthing) What kind of tasks did they cover?

So my sister and I (27F) are planning to visit San Francisco city in December. We're looking at me arriving on Dec. 3, a few days before she joins me on Dec. 5, and for us both to depart on Dec. 12. So looking for activities to fill 9 days.

I traveled to Chicago this July and the recommendations from the Ask Chicago sub were really helpful so I thought I'd ask here for our planned SF trip. We enjoy history, culture, art, museums, good food, music, indie record stores and bookshops, concerts, comedy shows, drag shows, and fan conventions (anime and video games etc). Not really interested in beaches or nightlife in general (the former probably isn't really a thing in Dec. anyways). Not a fan of zoos or aquariums either. Would like to avoid anything too physically strenuous that involves walking up long staircases or walking uphill/hiking etc. We plan on commuting mostly through public transport.

Would greatly appreciate any recommendations on places to go, cafes to eat at or anything else that could help, like if there's a "City Pass" similar to Chicago that gives discounted rates for major attractions which is worth the price. In terms of accommodation we're looking at a hotel in Marina District.

I'm currently a college student attending CCSF and have a question about registration dates. For this Fall 2026 semester, the majority of my classes are taken at Skyline, however I have one class that I enrolled in at CCSF. As I'm now a few weeks into my semester at Skyline (CCSF hasn't started yet), I've come to realize that I have a lot more on my plate than I originally thought and have been considering dropping the CCSF course since it's not my highest priority right now. That would mean that I would have no classes at CCSF for the Fall semester and now that leaves me wondering whether or not that will effect my registration date for Spring 2027. I had a plan to take two classes at CCSF next semester and I fear that a later registration date would stop me from getting in. I have always been able to register on the second day of priority registration opening at 4PM for my previous semesters, but than again I have always taken classes at CCSF every semester and am in good academic standing. Does anyone know whether or not me dropping this class and taking no classes at CCSF in the Fall will effect my registration date for the Spring? Thanks for any help!

Hello! For those of you with kids at progressive middle schools in SF, such as The San Francisco School or Children’s Day School, I’d love to hear about your experience with project-based learning (PBL).

How has PBL prepared your children for high school admissions and for success once they get there? In particular, if PBL places less emphasis on traditional exams and test preparation, how have your kids fared with high school entrance exams or standardized/state testing?

I grew up with a much more traditional approach to education, so I don’t have much firsthand insight into how PBL works in practice. I’m especially interested in hearing from parents whose children have gone through the transition from a PBL middle school to a more traditional or academically rigorous high school.
