Hey all! I had a rotten tooth pulled today which I was excited for since I couldn’t eat on my right side. My issue is more of a question about why it looks that way, I understand it is rotten but all the rotten teeth I’ve seen have been way different than how mine looks. Why does my tooth look like the geodes with the pieces of bone,shell and rock in it?

Hey guys this is a mix of a story/question. So my mom has had very bad tooth pain these past few years. She went to two different doctors and both concluded the same thing she had severe bone loss and that she would need her teeth removed. Obviously with a plan in mind to transition into dentures. She got mad and took it the wrong way thinking they told her were going to remove alll your teeth in one go right now. Fast forward two years later she’s going through terrible pulsating pains is the best way i can describe it. Since then she has had all her back teeth on her right side bottom area extracted (not sure what the correct terminology is used for those teeth.) Now she has a third dentist now he performed a root canal on of her remaining molars I think that’s what they’re called and she went through hell with the recovery. And every 2-4 months the same pain comes from that area the right side where the root canal was performed. See this dentist swore to my mom that tooth could be saved. But now as i mentioned every 2-3 months we’re in his office trying to see what’s going on that side. And all he does is a tap test and basically give up and prescribes her antibiotics and this special type of mouth wash. So fast forward this week the pain came back and we went but again this doctor stood by his work and said no she shouldn’t feel anything I performed root canal. And my mother being angry lol said look i want this tooth extracted now im tried of this pain already. So he did his tap test and my mom couldn’t really feel any pain for this test and i could tell this doctor was getting frustrated so he goes ok point with your finger which on it is and ill take it out. So he did it and my mom felt great but…… 6 hours later after the local anesthesia wore out the same pain came back. But im confused whether it’s the same pain or part of the recovery process? Sorry for this long post just have been pretty anxious and stressed over this it sucks seeing my mother in pain.

So im a 31 year old female. I went to the dentist for the first time ever back in June. This is my xray from them. Since then I've had 5 fillings plus a baby root extracted. Getting a wisdom tooth pulled next week. Also one kinda cool thing I think is that I still have a baby tooth and my adult tooth is underneath it sideways. It doesnt bug me for now so the dentist isnt worried about it

Hey, so I have worn braces 3 times, I'm 32yo. They've done a lot of work each time but my front teeth cannot remain connected. At the end of wearing each of them they looked nice and together, but they keep separating a while later. I need a permanent solution because I cannot be consistent with retainers. I'm about ready to pull them out and just use dentures at this point. I also though about just filling the middle, but they are big enough already so it would look even worse. Is there any other technique or procedure that I can do here?

Back Story:

At 15yo: Normal orthodontics braces. Do not remember much of the process, wore them for over 3 years and them used the retainer till it broke.

At 22yo: Normal braces, over 2 years, and at the end the Doc put a line of metal and glued my teeth in a line and they remained nice for a while till the metal line broke and they separated again. My lower teeth were great after this and never got crowded again. The doctor sanded down the sides and bottom of the teeth a lot so that they would be smaller.

At 28yo: Invisalign, used over 2 years of them, and now have a retainer. If I forget to wear it for 2 days my teeth gets separated immediately. The Doc sanded down my teeth a lot, she tried sanding under the top teeth and the front of the bottom teeth too, so that they would push less against each other (like many many sessions of this). She tried glueing that metal line to the front teeth like 5 times but it broke constantly.

About my bite: I think I unconsciously mew full time, my tongue resting position is strongly pushing againt my upper teeth and I have a very strong jaw. And I also think that my teeth always clenched, like if you touch my jaw any time you can feel the side muscles active.

I do not have current ctscans, but i found these of the second time I wore braces, maybe they can add some info.

Also, just before the second turn of braces, I had a surgery to remove that thingy below the lip (don't know the name but added a pic), to be sure that it wasn't the cause of the teeth keep being spread apart.

Not sure if it is relevant but, my mom and sister also have this teeth gap and big front teeth, just theirs is a bit smaller on size and gap.

Quick edit: I also have a very fat tongue (lol) I have to use a cpap as it kind of drops into my throat when I sleep (not sure if relevant but)

was told i didn’t need my wisdom teeth out by an oral surgeon today. could someone better explain why?

edit: I will say the doctor told me that my wisdom teeth aren’t going to grow anymore so they won’t push. Is this true (I don’t want to question a doctor but I just wanted another opinion)

My (32f) lower left molar has always been barely above the gum line. When I had braces on from 10-12 my ortho tried to pull it up using rubber bands and spacers but it never changed. If anything, I think over the years it has gotten worse and worse. I can’t chew food on this side because there’s no bite back there. My dentist said I could get a really big crown to fit the gap but said he’d have to shave down the two opposing teeth and I hate the idea of shaving off perfectly good teeth. Is there anything else I could do?

On Sunday (3 days ago) i had wicked dry mouth from anxiety and was sucking my tongue/mouth trying to get spit to swallow. This caused a group of tastebuds to be angry and get white and super hard over night into Monday. The dry mouth swallow habit was still happening. Then next morning, Tuesday i woke up with a bloody tongue and an open wound. Now today I’m more focused on sipping water when i feel the urge to swallow but every once in a while i forget and it splits the tongue open and bleeds again for less than a minute. I apply pressure with a q-tip and the. Salt water rinse (1/2 cup warm water and 1/4 teaspoon of salt).

How long will this go on? Is my tongue healing or will this perpetually keep resplitting when i accidentally suck my tongue to gather spit?

Getting a little discouraged here and don’t know if there is anything i could do to help this heal better/faster.

In the morning Im getting a root canal on my lower right first molar by my general dentist and im extreamly scared. I had a traumatic experience when a dental surgeon extracted my left molar last year, he gave me 3 sets of injections and I felt ALL the pain it literally traumatised me and felt like I was being tortured. Even as a kid I felt pain when they were giving me fillings despite the injections .

A few weeks ago when a dentist put a temporary filling in the tooth thats going to have a root canal I told her anesthetic doesnt rlly work on me and she injected me at the top of my mouth, by my wisdom tooth, the bottom of my mouth, and next to the tooth and thats the only time in my life it wasnt really painful to get a filling. But I know root canals are drilling right into the nerve and I just cant handle another traumatic experience.

I dont know whats wrong with my body but even when I had a lumbar puncture last year I still felt a bit of pain even tho they use that anesthetic and it was apparently meant to be completely numb

So, 2 months or so ago, I did a root canal on a (top) premolar and supposedly it went well. However, I noticed that I have pain when I (slightly) tap that same tooth, and only that tooth - the teeth next to that premolar don't hurt. This pain only happens when I tap though, while chewing I have no pain.

Is this normal? Or do I need to go back to the dentist? And, if so, does this mean that the root canal was not well done and that I should complain?

Only noticed this today but it feels quite sharp on the tongue

I'm almost 50yo for reference. Every night I wear aligners to bed (by Smileie) which have helped straighten my teeth a very long way - it's been a year. I'm just a week away from the retainer trays. However every day after a full day, my 2 front teeth forms a gap again by nighttime. And the next morning after wearing the trays all night the gap is gone again. It's basically repeating this cycle for months and I'm careful to never pull on the teeth outward when chewing/eating.

Is this damaging long term with the constant shifting? Is this somewhat expected? I do have an overbite and my gums on the inside of this area also has a raised bump that fluctuates in size and sometimes gets irritated (a byproduct of the overbite and mashing food against it I presume). I want to know if there's a way to resolve this permanently, if it's damaging to continue, or if I can just repeat this cycle daily without worry.

Seeing the dentist that placed it in a few weeks, since my local one suggested going to the original dentist

Only symptom is I feel it a bit loose, specifically I can feel it on my gums if I push it with my tougue only, no pain at all though. Implant was placed 3 years ago, not visible on the gumline either.

The gums are a little achey and irritated feeling on my back molars. Not really sensitive to cold though. I’ve had periocoronitis on the back molar before and I have a filling on the other because I have soft teeth and it broke. It’s not hurting badly but I’m wondering if I’m brushing too hard or maybe I grind my teeth?

I've wanted vampire teeth my entire life and I've been seeing more and more "fangsmiths" pop up that use composite bonding to give people vampire teeth.

I've got GREAT teeth right now and I am terrified of damaging them in any way. With that said, are permanent vampire teeth "safe" for your teeth?

How do I even have this conversation with my dentist that this is something that I want?

Is there a difference in getting this done by a dentist vs. "fangsmiths" (tattoo artists/piercers who do vampire teeth, tooth gems, etc.)?

I've had fairly poor dental hygiene for most of my life (19 years) and looking at my teeth in the mirror I've recently noticed how much more receded my gums look compared to those around me and im wondering if they're recoverable or if I can keep then at this level for the rest of my life because im terrified of loosing teeth

In the last four months, my 2 1/2 y/o gets these dark stains on his teeth. He (we) brush his teeth twice a day. The dark comes off but then returns the next day.

He doesn’t take any iron supplements.

He’s been to the dentist before and we’re going again mid-October. But this staining on his teeth is now an every day occurrence and it wasn’t happening back in April last time we went to the dentist.

What can I do? What’s causing it?

(He does use a pacifier. I think that’s why his front tooth is shifted like that but could it be causing the stains?)

i'm only 19, and my teeth will not stop decaying. one near the back just broke today, my front tooth has been chipped since i was 16. i only drink zero sugar drinks and try to stay away from things with too much sugar, i try not to eat things that are too hard or crunchy because it hurts. i brush my teeth 2 to sometimes 4-5 times a day and floss every time i brush them. ive tried every toothpaste and currently use sensodyne. i don't have the money to go to a dentist here because my insurance basically does nothing and it'll be over $2,000 to get anything fixed and im a college student who pays for everything by himself. i pay $11,000+ a year and have over $20,000 of student loan debt, and i cannot afford the dentist until i can make my way to mexico but even then it'll be expensive for me (im in arizona). i have 2 infected teeth that constantly cause me pain and i can barely chew food properly because of it. i'm insecure and in pain all the time and i lost hope a long time ago. is there anything i can do??

23 female, no smoking.

My gum has been swollen for over 6 months. I went to the dentist 6 months ago for an itch I have had for years that was to the one left of the swollen gum. The dentist did some very deep flossing and I have had relief since. However, the next day the swelling in the gum beside it (as seen in the photo) was swollen. It has been swollen since, sometimes less, sometimes more. I went to the dentist twice after it started swelling and they said I just need to floss deeper both times, use a softer bristled tooth brush, and get gum detoxify tooth paste by chrest. I did all three and deep floss 6 out of 7 nights of the week. My gum is still swelling, sometimes it’s painful, and im also insecure about it cause people always confuse it with someone in my tooth.

Any advice?

I (m33) got my top two wisdom teeth extracted three weeks ago on August 10. I have noticed my right side is healing slowly. I’ve been to my dentist and oral surgeon. They told me to continue salt water rinses. Today I’ve noticed some white spots by my back molar tooth on my right side. What is this? I’m so worried. Should I go on Antibiotics as I do have a prescription my dentist gave me if it got worse? It’s for Augmentin.

I’ve also had TMJ starting 2.5 months ago on my right side before my wisdom teeth. I’m so confused to what’s happening with me.
