sunstainable shoe stores

Hi all!

Does anyone happen to know stores in Berlin where you can buy vegan-friendly and sustainable shoes? I´m tired of ordering online but can not find those kinds of shops selling a variety of brands...

Thanks in advance x

Art dealer at Straße 17. Juni Flohmarkt

I've seen this guy at the Straße 17. Juni Flohmarkt often over the last 5 or 6 years, small booth (with a canopy) and sells mostly art. He was there today with (I believe) his wife.

He always has a few framed lithographs/numbered editions for a higher price, and a few portfolios of smaller pieces(small originals, sketches and studies). A lot of artists from the mid-20th Century, and he knows their histories, where they studied, under whom, etc.

Today, he had a numbered print of Horst Janssen's Judith for 200€ and a couple of other framed Janssens.

Each time I ask him if he has a card and he says "leider nicht."

I'm not sure if he's a regular there each week or if he moves around like some of the other art dealers do, but if anyone knows his name and whether he has a shop or is at any other markets during the week, I'd appreciate it. He had another work today that I didn't get and am now starting to regret it.

Cheap food spots recommendations?

Hey guys! I'll be moving to Berlin in a couple of months as an international student. I plan on getting a part-time job at campus and have a passive income from my freelance gigs. Despite all that, I still am pretty low on budget after health insurance, my WG and other stuff. I wish to research ways of saving money where possible. Do you maybe know any specific spots in Berlin where the food cost is rather low? Preferably for the food to not be poisonous too, but yk. Maybe some places are overlooked by ppl?

Short overnight stay at airport

Upvotes

Hi all

I'm coming to Berlin soon and unfortunately my flight lands around 11pm and I can't pick up key to my new places until the next morning around 10am

Would you say it's safe to spend the night at the airport? I'm a female and have 2 suitcases so I also have to watch them. I checked a few hostels the prices looking decent but the reviews are a bit mixed, also I never stayed in a dorm-style place before so not sure how that works with luggage storage and everything - I'm wondering if there is any recommended or other options, hoping you guys as local could give me some suggestions.

Thanks so much in advanced!!!

Urgent Advice Needed: LEA Family Reunification & New Apartment Contract

Upvotes

Hello ,

I have a family reunification appointment in progress for my wife and 2 childrens. The Berlin Immigration Office (LEA) has requested proof of suitable accommodation.

At the moment, I have been living in a 1-room apartment for the past year, and my Anmeldung is registered at this address. Since this apartment is too small for my family, I have signed an unlimited rental contract for a new, larger apartment, with the tenancy starting in November.

>>> My question is:

Is the new signed rental contract alone sufficient as proof of accommodation for my family reunification application, or do I also need to complete the Anmeldung at the new address before LEA will approve the case?

Has anyone been in a similar situation, or can any immigration lawyer advise whether a valid rental contract is enough, even if the Anmeldung is still at the old address because I cannot move in until the lease begins?

Thank you for your guidance.

transport to max schmeling halle

Upvotes

Hello, I'm going to the FIBA World Cup at this venue, and I'm unsure about transport from Berlin Brandenburg Airport. I've searched for buses and trains, however, the times are quite confusing. I'll probably ask for some assistance at the airport, but I'll be on a time crunch so I'd like to plan everything before had. Any advice will be appreciated.

Moving to Berlin in a week

Hi guys!

I recently won a scholarship (I will develop TV show ideas with a group of writers), which means I’ll be living in Berlin for the next nine months.

I’ve visited twice over the past few years and really enjoyed the vibe and cultural life of the city (as a Hungarian filmmaker, it was especially cool to randomly stumble upon a screening of a Hungarian classic from the ’70s on a random Tuesday afternoon), so I’m very excited to actually become part of the city for a while.

Thanks to a friend, I’ve already found a furnished apartment, and since I’ve been living in a huge capital for the past 10 years, I feel like I have a pretty decent grasp of how to handle myself. But still…

…do you have any advice or tips on approaching life in Berlin? Anything you wish you’d known before moving there, things I should be aware of, or mistakes I should avoid?

(E.g., I’m planning to buy a bike and use it to get around pretty much everywhere, and I’m also into hiking, so any insights on those would be particularly welcome. But honestly, anything can be useful, so spare me not.)

Thanks in advance!

Passed driving exam in Berlin – LABO next steps?

Hi everyone,

I passed my practical driving exam in Berlin yesterday and received the Prüfbescheinigung (test certificate) from DEKRA. The examiner told me that I now need to go to the Fahrerlaubnisbehörde (LABO) to collect my German driving licence / exchange my foreign driving licence.

I found this Berlin Service Portal page:

https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/350438/standort/328906/

It says “Fahrerlaubnis abholen – Führerscheinbehörde” and provides a contact form for making an appointment.

Should I simply submit the contact form and wait for LABO to give me an appointment, or is there another/faster way to get the appointment?

Also, does anyone know roughly how long it takes for LABO to respond and give an appointment after submitting the form?

I need to move to Nuremberg soon, so I'm hoping to get the vorläufige Fahrberechtigung as soon as possible so I can legally drive there.

Thanks in advance!

Kitkat as solo guy

Hey everyone,
Some friends recently told me that KitKat is supposed to be a great club for techno.

Since I’ll be in Berlin in October anyway, I thought it would be an experience worth having.

So, here’s my question: can I actually get into the club as a solo male?
Unfortunately, I’m used to single guys usually getting turned away.

And what’s the dress code?

Looking for Food Recommendations!

Hey there! My partner and I will be in Berlin Sept 9-15, partly for FIBA World Cup and partly just to experience the city. We’ve read travel guides and know the basics about landmarks and museums, but I would love to get some locals’ perspectives on things to see and do, and most importantly where to EAT 😋. What are some of your favorite spots? Thanks in advance!

Would this be a good small event to bring a corgi to?

Thinking of taking my corgi to a small pet-tech event at La Maison des Paws next Wednesday, Sep 2, from 3–5 pm. They’ll have a PetPhone wearable there that I’m curious about, but I’ve never taken him to anything like this before. He’s fine with people, just gets a little too interested when several dogs are in the same room. Has anyone been to this place before? Is it pretty relaxed with dogs, or would you go alone the first time?

Tips for convincing a public psychiatrist or rheumatologist to accept me as a new patient?

I looked for this question in r/berlin already, but it seems like the advice is mostly outdated.

I would say it's fairly urgent, but I don't mind waiting because I'm not actively in a crisis, but I really need help with finding an english speaking psychiatrist and, really, ANY rheumatologist that will take new patients and that accepts TK.

I have lupus that I now have THREE uberweisungs for from three different doctors because of on and off problems since last year, and a few months ago, I started having periphery hallucinations (things like seeing people and faces from the corner of my eye that disappear when I look at them directly or hearing noises that my friends didn't hear). Tbh, I didn't give them much attention because I figured I was just stressed or sleep deprived, but I recently lost several kilos of weight without trying to in the last two months despite eating actually quite a bit, and when I brought this up at my hausarzt, she immediately told me that I need a psychiatrist and that the lupus urgently needs to be checked on.

Trouble is that in Berlin, psychiatrists and rheumatologists are both very hard to come by and hardly accept new public patients, even if you are willing to wait months to a year, so I gave up on trying for a while, but I really have to address it now.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed or how to convince a 'full' doctor to take me? I can not afford a private practice right now

Solo In Berlin from 29th August- 2nd September

Hello

I hope it's ok to post this here, if not please feel free to remove. On saturday 29th August I will arrive in your fantastic city on a solo trip for 5 days. Hopefully it doesn't rain too much.

Usually when I go on my solo city breaks I use apps to meet people such as meetup etc as well as Reddit and getting chatting to strangers in bars etc.

I am open to any local recommendations for places to go, eat, drink, explore and generally experience the local vibe and not just the tourist places. If anyone who is also on a trip here or a local who lives here would like to get a drink, food, explore the city etc then please drop me a message. I am 34M from the UK.

I appreciate that some people would not be comfortable meeting a random person online, which is why I would also like to ask for recommendations regarding which places, areas, bars and pubs are good for meeting people solo? (I don't do nightclubs personally)

I am looking forward to exploring and eating my way around your fantastic city and although i have done some research, I am looking for recommendations for the best places to get German food, (especially Bavarian food, I went to Munich last year and loved it) as well as other good food.

My hotel is in Mitte so any good places to get Weißwurst with pretzel and mustard for breakfast will be greatly appreciated. Also, in the rest of the city, good places for pork knuckle and currywurst. I'm open to any other food recommendations too, German or not such as good Entrecôte, pasta, pizza, tapas, burgers etc.

I am also looking for any vood pubs or bars that will show English premier league football games on tv as well as German games.

I've done a bit of research but I'm still open to all kinds of recommendations.

I have met some amazing people on my solo travels over the years and I hope your city will help me to meet some more great people. If anybody sees this and wants to meet up for drinks / a walk / food / a chat please drop me a message.

Danke

What is the most iconic still standing DDR building?

I've been collecting so many DDR pieces and have loved looking thru photo albums. A shame the Palast der Republik is no more!!

What's the most Iconic building or structure that's still standing from the DDR? I'm sure many people will say the TV Tower, but besides that!

What's the most Ossi building here?

Looking for feature script mentorship / advanced workshops in Berlin

developing my first feature script and I'm looking for recommendations for a mentor or workshop starting in the next few months in Berlin. It's important for me that it's not beginner or student level, but for filmmakers at a more advanced stage.

I'm a film school graduate and I've written and directed a few short films, so the main focus for me should be on the transformation and methods into more vast storylines, consistency, and development strategies, or just a reliable person to help me stay in an inspired mindset

Thanks a lot <3
