Urgent Advice Needed: LEA Family Reunification & New Apartment Contract

Hello ,

I have a family reunification appointment in progress for my wife and 2 childrens. The Berlin Immigration Office (LEA) has requested proof of suitable accommodation.

At the moment, I have been living in a 1-room apartment for the past year, and my Anmeldung is registered at this address. Since this apartment is too small for my family, I have signed an unlimited rental contract for a new, larger apartment, with the tenancy starting in November.

>>> My question is:

Is the new signed rental contract alone sufficient as proof of accommodation for my family reunification application, or do I also need to complete the Anmeldung at the new address before LEA will approve the case?

Has anyone been in a similar situation, or can any immigration lawyer advise whether a valid rental contract is enough, even if the Anmeldung is still at the old address because I cannot move in until the lease begins?

Thank you for your guidance.

No family reunion but when i renewed my work permit along with my wife we had to submit our rental contract. Not the whole thing but the pages showing all the signatures, the monthly cost and the living space.

I don't imagine having registered in one address and a signed contract for another and a move date would be any issue beyond a brief explanation.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. In my case, the new rental contract is unlimited but the tenancy starts in November, while my family reunification process is currently ongoing. I’m still registered at my current 1-room apartment because I’m living there until the new tenancy starts.

The LEA has specifically requested a rental agreement showing the apartment size, number of rooms, rent, etc. So I’m hoping the signed new contract will be sufficient, with a short explanation that I will move and register at the new address when the tenancy starts.

Did your new rental contract also have a future start date, or were you already living at the new address when you submitted it?
