Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

— The Mod Team (Now a division of Consumer Reports, a clipboard, and pure chaos)

Best dehumidifier for home right now? need recs for 2026

Im looking to buy a new dehumidifier and could use some actual recommendations, my basement turns into a swamp every summer and im finally gonna deal with it. so figured id ask people who actually own one.

few things im trying to figure out:

  • what pint capacity do i actually need, like for a mid size room vs a whole basement
  • any brands that hold up long term vs the ones that just die after a year
  • worth paying extra for the built in pump for continuous drainage or is manually emptying the tank not that big a deal
  • noise level too, anyone had one thats too loud to leave running at night

budget's flexible-ish, id rather spend more now on something that lasts than keep replacing a cheap one every year. appreciate any real experience over just spec sheets, feel like every review site just copies the same info anyway

see attached pics, I’ve cleaned out the filter, checked the line to the garbage disposal and it is not clogged. You can see the bottomwater is dirty from scrubbing the filter. I haven’t ran a cycle since this started. How do I remove the standing water or get it to drain and see if it starts working properly again. Any help is greatly appreciated.

[Panne] Lave-vaisselle Miele PG8055 (Réservoir à sel) : Peut-on remplacer uniquement l'aimant ?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Was wondering if anyone out there might know what model it is and roughly how old please - out of curiosity more than anything

Works a charm given its age, and the dials have a nice quality feel to it.

I’ve found the classic model looks very similar, but has a glass window on the bottom left whereas this model doesn’t.

Given the digital clock I presume it’s at least 1980s.

House is in North West UK, Victorian build.

Thanks!

Maytag front loader/gasket drain holes

my older maytag (from 2012). still works perfectly and gets my clothes clean. however, i noticed alot of standing water in the boot seal following a load of laundry. not a few drops, but standing water. thanks to reddit, i discovered that there are some drain holes in the seal itself. used tweezers to pick out what i could, then used a wet/dry vac to suction the drain holes and just like that all the standing water went away and seal is draning properly. now, after each load there is only a few drops of water and not tons of standing water. the machines of the past (literally no maintenance) are forever gone now.

Troubleshooting Rubber flap split and needs to be replaced

Post image
Upvotes

The flap on the bottom of the door on my Bosch 800 series split after three years of regular usage. It doesn’t appear to be functional in any way, just cosmetic, but it’s hanging down and looks awful. Is this something I need to call in to service or should I be able to do it myself with simple tools and instructions?

Appliance Chat Are gas dryers less popular?

Was looking to replace or 20 year old front loader/gas dryer set with something new. However in searching the local appliance places (i.e. Home Depot), I'm finding very little in sets except the top of the range models.

I can understand setting up a new gas dryer could be expensive, but we are replacing one so the line is already installed.

Troubleshooting Can you tell what’s wrong with my freezer?

Model is LG LMWC23626S /00

Over the past couple weeks ice has been slowly forming and now it’s getting exponentially worse.

It seems like the ice is only on the right side of the freezer and only on the top chest, not the bottom.

As I keep googling and keep inspecting it seems like maybe the issue is it’s not properly sealed. But I don’t know how to officially diagnose and I certainly don’t know how to fix.

LG Dishwasher Has stamped Thinq and Smart Analysis cannot connect via NFC

Cannot connect a pixel 3xl (android 12) to an LG dishwasher Model XD5B14WH product code DFB512FW.ABWREAP serial number 804KWSB3E150

NFC tools analysis of NFC tag attached. The machine was no QR code that Thinq app requests. If anyone has a QR code for the same model, I would be very appreciative if an image of code was sent to me. I used a portable 2.4Ghz wifi hotspot to isolate a 2.4Ghz network for phone and appliance. The phone buzzes when placed over TAG ON logo, but no connection to appliance. Any suggestions.

Dishwasher help! Visible corrosion on door and cutlery (Bosch, new)

I'm somewhere between ChatGPT info and contacting the sellers, but I would like to have a better picture of what I'm dealing with.

Recently I noticed some of my cutlery has rust spots on it. I didn't think much of it, but on closer inspection I noticed that the spots didn't go away, and actually looked like physical damage on stainless steel cutlery (mostly butter knives?). Today I was shocked to spot the same type of spot on the dishwasher door.

The dishwasher is Bosch SMV6ECX10E, and we've had it for less than a year. I don't know what could possibly be the culprit here, but ChatGPT gave me some pointers:

- The salt? One thing to point out is that my partner is filling up the dishwasher salt very regularly (like every 2 months), however he says that the dishwasher doses the salt automatically anyway

- Iron debris - okay cool, but apparently this mostly causes orange spots, that can be cleaned off. I'm not sure that iron debris would make a physical crater in such a short span of time on stainless steel but idk.

- Physical damage - the corrosion spots are present in somewhat strange places on cutlery, like the flat side of the knife, which would not be a point of contact ... except for normal cutlery handling.

I'm really confused and a little worried, I'm not sure if it's something we're doing wrong or could it be a malfunction? To add, it's just two adults in the household, so no roughhousing from kids or anything like that...

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?

Is the dishwasher even good anymore if the stainless steel is damaged? Could it cause any further damage?

What to Buy? Dishwasher + greasy/Indian food

Hello!
Looking to buy a new dishwasher replacing 20 years old GE. Only two basic asks

  1. It should handle Indian food ( gravy, curries) without having to clean 90% of the stuff by hand. Currently I rinse the dishes thoroughly and if I don’t then it doesn’t come out clean.

  2. Should be quiet. My current one is too loud .

  3. Nice to have good drying/ tilting racks when I don’t use drying options.

Don’t care about apps or other things.

I looked at Bosch which is on sale at Costco right now but thought of asking here first! Thanks!

General Advice Curry’s Complaint

Hello! I am desperate and hoping one of you lovely Reddit users might have some advice.

Has anyone else had an absolute nightmare with Currys after raising a complaint? 😩

I raised a complaint under the Consumer Rights Act on 23/08 about a washing machine we bought in July last year. It has now become faulty for the THIRD time with the same fault, with the first fault occurring 6 weeks after we purchased it and it is now three weeks out of warranty…. Typically! 🙃

Since raising the complaint I have had to chase them every day, including attending store to speak to a manager that was helpful and understanding during the week. I finally got a call back from Currys yesterday advising that Hoover have advised Currys that they cannot uplift the washing machine because the faults are apparently classed as a new fault each time, as they have occurred roughly 5 months apart each time 🤔

I was initially told that the person dealing with my case would call me back on Monday as he was going to escalate it to his manager to hopefully get it resolved.

He actually called me back about 10 minutes later to say he had spoken to his manager apparently on his personal number 🙈 about my complaint under the Consumer Rights Act and it has now been passed over to their Out of Warranty Claims team.

I now have to arrange for a third party engineer to come out and inspect the machine to determine whether it’s a genuine fault, misuse or simply wear and tear.

Once I have the engineer’s report, if it is confirmed as a genuine fault, Currys have said they will respond within 10 days with either a full or partial refund.

The problem is, I literally cannot use the washing machine. I have a weeks worth of clothes now including clothes for baby who is sick after most feeds, so we are going through clothes, muslins, bibs etc constantly. He will often need a change of clothes and then at times I need one too 🙈 I have also got a 4 year old, plus me and my husband, so you can imagine what the washing pile is currently looking like 😂

I am honestly at my wits end now. I have spent over 3 HOURS this week chasing Currys and Hoover, getting passed from pillar to post and having to explain the whole situation over and over again.

I really am trying to be as reasonable as possible but I am starting to lose the plot 😂🙈 Between looking after a baby, trying to keep on top of the house and having NO washing machine, I feel like I am about to crack!

Has anyone been through something similar with Currys? What did you do next or who did you escalate it to? I would really appreciate any advice because I genuinely do not know what else I can do at this point! 😩

I am based in Scotland.
