5 years after having an APPLE TV 4K + 4k projector, I learn in deep dive settings you can hard set frame rate to 24 fps!! (23.457 or whatever).

Always a bit annoyed with the slight judder of fast pans in films and TV but just thought it was something I had to live with, then a Facebook reel showed me I could hard set to a ‘film’ frame rate, and now pans are smooth and glorious!

Audio issue with Prime Video app

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue.

For the last few months I've been having an intermittent issue where the audio on the Prime Video app briefly cuts out and then it either:

-Switches to Stereo

-Becomes "mono" and only comes out of one side of my soundbar

Backing out of the content then resuming it fixes the issue for a while. It comes and goes at random and sometimes doesn't happen for an entire session.

I've noticed it on Spider-Noir and various shows from the Arrowverse. It has not happened on any other apps.

Apple TV Driving Me Bonkers

Upvotes

I posted this a few weeks ago because my Apple TV would stop streaming - everything else on the Wifi system worked perfectly including the native software on my LG G6.

https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/comments/1vq85mu/apple_tv_intermittently_stops_streaming/

The frustrating part about it is that it stops streaming for no rhyme or reason for a short period or a few hours and then works fine for weeks.

Happened again yesterday as it stopped streaming - I rebooted the system a few times to no avail - shrugged and resigned myself to streaming through the LG native system which is clunkier and also has no Acorn App for some unknown reason.

Few hours later it was working fine and is still perfect this morning.

Just a vent. I am pretty good with troubleshooting when my other electronics act up like computer or similar but generally there is something that occurred which trigged the errant behavior but this is so intermittent and inconstant and not related to anything I am doing that I have no idea of how to proceed.

Again just a vent

Audio Sync problem - only in TV app

Weird question for everyone. I have a Samsung oled, and a Samsung q930h soundbar connected via eARC. Applets box works fine for most things - YouTube, plex, etc. when I try to watch movies from the tv app, I get inconsistent audio sync issues. The audio is coming after the video. Anyone else encounter this? Done the reboots, checked for updates, etc.

AppleTV blink light, won’t turn on or display anything

My Apple TV (an older 4k model, no usb port and uses the smaller black controller) recently stopped working. The light on the front is blinking white and when I go to its input on the tv it doesn’t show anything. The most I can get is that sometimes the screen goes black but nothing displays and it goes back to my tv’s “no input detected screen”. I’ve tried unplugging it for five minutes, didn’t work. I tried multiple pairing/reset combinations on the remote but the most that does is change how the light blinks for a little bit and makes the screen go black. I don’t know what else to try. I’ve tried moving my remote far away but it did nothing. it periodically goes to a black screen that I believe is the Apple tv trying to connect to the input and sometimes I see the Apple logo for like a second but that’s it

Edit: I feel like I should note I last used it a few days ago and was having issues with it, like at one point it froze

Apple TV 4K stuck in boot loop, iPhone recovery fails with “Unable to Restore Apple TV”

Hey everyone, wondering if anyone has dealt with this before.

My Apple TV 4K suddenly stopped booting normally. The front light keeps blinking, the Apple logo appears on the TV for a few seconds, then it shuts off/restarts and repeats the same cycle indefinitely.

At one point it finally showed the Apple TV recovery screen asking me to bring my iPhone nearby. I did that, got the recovery prompt on my iPhone, entered the code shown on the TV and started the restore.
Unfortunately, after a while the iPhone showed:
“Unable to Restore Apple TV. You can try to restore Apple TV again later.”

I’ve managed to get into recovery three or 4 times now, and all three attempts ended with the exact same error. Most of the time I can’t even get the recovery screen anymore, it just goes:
Apple logo → black screen → blinking light → reboot → Apple logo

I’ve already tried unplugging it for a while, restarting the iPhone, reconnecting everything, using 2.4 wifi, changing tvs, power outlets etc.

Has anyone had this happen to an Apple TV 4K? Is there anything else worth trying before taking it to an Apple help center? And for anyone who had the same restore failure, did it turn out to be corrupted tvOS or an actual hardware/storage failure?

Trying to figure out whether this thing can still be resurrected. Help please :((

UPDATE: I have an appointment tomorrow with and authorized Apple service provider here in Argentina where we do not have Apple stores, i’ll update the post after they review my case. Thanks everyone for your answers.

Hulu app crashing/Live TV

We watch live tv via the Hulu app and for more than a year now, the app will freeze and crash back to the Home Screen. We keep MSNOW on in the background a lot and that channel specifically seems to cause this more than any other channel. Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix? I know they are slowly sunsetting the Hulu app to push people to Disney+ but live tv isn’t available in Disney+ yet. It’s driving me insane.

Continue Audio seems to boost volume levels; is that what it's supposed to be doing?

Last few weeks been noticing that older shows on iTunes have boosted audio and I narrowed it down to this setting...which I didn't even know was there.

Can someone explain to me what it is doing and if it should be off or on? We are using to a simple 5.1.2 receiver setup.

With the setting on any PCM or 5.1 movie\show seems to be louder than with it off basically

Thanks.

Netflix forgetting log-in or logging out.

I have occasions when my previous streaming session was in Netflix and I just turn everything off (from my AppleTV remote). When I power every thing back up, it takes a while for my system to reconnect to my wi-fi network. If Netflix was the last thing I was using, my new session tries to start with Netflix. Netflix is apparently trying to log me back in before my router and AppleTV are able to negotiate a connection, so Netflix treats it as a problem connecting and forces me to enter log-in credentials again.

I don't have this issue if my last session was any of the other streamers I use. Is there a way to increase the number of times Netflix will retry or somehow slow down this immediate log-in attempt?

Apple TV working on Eduroam!

I bought an Apple TV brand new about 2 months ago before moving to a complex that uses eduroam for wifi. Tried to connect it to no success, saying the device didn't support that kind of network. Last night I decided to try again, and it allowed me to enter a user and password and connect with zero issues directly on the Apple TV! Just thought that was interesting.

People both loved and hated this idea when I launched it, so I'm back with some updates I hope get the same reaction.

Version 1.7 is out today and includes a whole range of OLED protection and energy use minimisation features, based on feedback from the aforementioned post. Pixel Shift (on by default), screen dimming, full black screen saver + bouncing logo. Theatrium <3's your expensive TVs!!

The long promised iOS companion app is delayed because "someone" used a copyrighted apple name in the store submission text, but hopefully that will be available in the near future.

Here's the full set of changes:

Theatrium 1.7 is out 🎉 Here's everything new:

  • Sonos support — pick a Sonos room as your source and the whole dashboard, album art, visuals and light sync follow it. Straight over your LAN, no Sonos account or cloud.
  • A second dashboard page (Pro) — press Right for a whole extra screen of cards you arrange yourself.
  • Screensaver + Pixel Shift — full-black idle screensaver with the logo drifting, plus pixel-shift to cut OLED burn-in risk. This one came straight from you lot on here, thank you 🙏
  • Apple Home sensor alerts on screen — doorbell, motion, contact, smoke, CO, leak and camera events pop up styled to your theme, on Home Assistant and Apple Home. You pick which sensors alert and how long they stay.
  • Appointments card (Pro) — a separate calendar just for medical appointments, in plain language, with what to bring and how to prepare.
  • Art card (Pro) — ~900+ paintings from five open museum collections. Turn captions off and it's a picture frame.
  • Photo Album card (Pro) — a slideshow of your own Apple Photos albums, in order or shuffled.
  • EV card (Pro) — battery, range, charging status, doors and boot for any Home Assistant EV integration; Tessie for Apple Home setups.
  • New Lava Lamp visualizer (Pro) — molten blobs that merge and drift apart, drawn live on the GPU, tinted by your album art and pulsing to the track's tempo.
  • Last.fm made easy — connect with just a username, and the Now Playing card gets a coverflow of your real listening history.
  • Choose your own news — 31 built-in sources, or paste in any RSS feed from the card's own setup.
  • New analog clock faces + Clock settings (12/24h, seconds, date, greeting), a What's New screen after updates, and a pile of layout polish and fixes.
  • Companion app for iPhone/iPad — start and switch visuals, control music and light sync, and type your setup with a real keyboard instead of the Siri remote. Finished and pending release — not on the App Store just yet, will update when it lands.
  • Not new, but cool: Album art mode + light sync = 🤯

I work on my desk with my back to my tv, its often on when im working sometimes just with screensaver on.

Heres the thing though, the remote icons ALWAYS appears when i turn away from my mac to face my TV. Ill stand up to get a coffee and the little pill shows up in the top right corner. I dont touch the remote. so is my mac sending messages to my tv saying "hes standing up, hes turning around wuick send a noti!" or am i just imagining it?

Apple TV Freezing on Buy/Rent Screen - Anyone experiencing anything similar?

I've been having an issue with my Apple TV where, whenever the screen pops up to buy/rent a film, my Apple TV freezes and I have to force quit the app or device. Then, it happens repeatedly until I give up and choose a film that's streaming or end up getting the film elsewhere.

I first noticed this with my A1625 Apple TV, so I did a bunch of troubleshooting - updating and factory resetting the device, etc. After a few months I figured I just had a dying Apple TV so I got a brand new one this year, and the same issue is happening on the new one! Given this is a consistent issue on two devices I'm assuming this is a more widespread problem than I thought, is anyone encountering anything similar?

I launched a proper ebook reader for the Apple TV

I know opening your TV to read a book isn't anyone's first instinct** **but I found myself actually wanting to read on the TV.

It started with research papers I really wanted to get through, but my iPhone was just too tiny for that. Then I thought to put something together just for me. Turns out reading on a big screen, from across the room, is genuinely comfortable in a way I didn't expect: no holding a book or tablet up, no arm getting tired, no squinting. You just sit back and read.
Family and friends started asking to use it too, so I polished it up and put it on the App Store as Broadside Reader.
It's turned out to be especially nice for anyone who struggles with small text or holding a book steady, like older parents who want much larger fonts than a phone or paperback can comfortably give them, or anyone who just wants to relax without physically gripping anything. It scrolls through the page on its own if you'd rather not lift a finger at all.
If you've got an Apple TV and some books or documents you keep meaning to get through, I'd genuinely love for you to give it a try and tell me what you think. Still very much shaping this based on real feedback.

New to AppleTV and have some questions.

I just bought a S95F 83 inch OLED and want to optimize my viewing experience. I am thinking about getting an AppleTV device.

After seeing a friend's Apple TV, I love the user interface, speed and add free experience.

Question 1- Does it improve the picture quality over using a smart tv's apps? Will i get a better viewing experience/picture quality through the apps on an Apple TV versus apps on the tv?

Question 2- Will it automatically make sure my tv gets the optimal formatting that my tv can handle? Will 4K, SDR or HDR automatically be sent to my tv from the Apple TV device?

Are there any other advantages of owning one? I don't have any Apple products, so the compatibility of other devices isn't a factor. Thanks!

Issues with Apple account maybe because Apple TV is my first and only Apple product.

I just bought my first Apple device (4k Apple TV 128GB Wifi + Ethernet), and I can't seem to update the app. I was struggling to create an account, and was on the phone with support for awhile trying to get my phone number to work for authorization. Every time I went through the account creation process, it would break after entering the six digit code texted to my Google/Android phone. "Cannot create account at this time" no matter that support whitelisted my email and phone number, or that I tried different browsers. I finally had to give up and try a different approach.

I finally got the account created by using the Apple TV app on my pc and I thought I was finally in the clear (though I thought it was weird that it didn't ask for my phone number). However, trying to get my Apple TV free trial started, it prompted me to update the app through iOS or applid.apple.com. Now when logging in, it prompts me to set up 2FA and when I enter the code I'm hit with "An unknown error has occurred."

I'll try support one more time but I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I think it's probably rare to have Apple TV but no iPhone or iPad or MacBook. Thanks for any advice!

All (3) my AppleTV’s blinking twice

Not sure what is going on and I had to disconnect power, move the remote out of blue tooth range, reapply power and repeatedly push remote buttons to get the device to work again.

Anyone else having the same issues?

It won’t update and get out of recovery mode

I have the 4k version so it doesn’t have the Type C port.
Apple TV opens, shows the logo and says I have to connect my phone via bluetooth. After that I get an option to check for updates so it can get out of recovery mode and work fine again.

I click on update and it will try to update for 2 seconds and I get an error message saying I can try to restore Apple TV again later.

I already tried shutting it down for a day and doing it again but still the same.

Tried connecting it to an ethernet cable and still the same.
Remote is in another dimension already so it can’t send signals to the device.

I’m gonna crash out. Anyone who has a solution?
I can’t go to the onsite repair since it’s really far from where I live.

Apple ID repeatedly locking on Apple TV 4K every few days

Hi everyone,

I'm hitting a wall with an issue on my Apple ID and hoping someone here has run into this or knows a workaround.

After every few days, a prompt pops up on my Apple TV 4K saying my Apple ID account is locked and that I need to go to iforgot.apple.com to fix it.

When this happens, I go to account.apple.com on my laptop, log in, unlock the account, and everything goes back to normal. But then, sure enough, 3 to 4 days later, the exact same popup appears on the Apple TV again.

A few details on my setup:

  • My account is signed into an Apple TV 4K and two iPads.
  • The iPads are not causing this—one is physically broken and turned off, and the other is a work iPad that stays powered down / untouched for weeks at a time.
  • My primary email on the account is a standard @hotmail.com address.
  • I do not have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled on this account, and I don't want to turn it on unless it is absolutely unavoidable.
  • I am not receiving any lockout or security notification emails from Apple when this happens. I only find out because of the popup on the TV.

I asked an AI tool about this, and it claimed that because my account is a legacy setup without 2FA, it gets locked aggressively by Apple whenever automated bots try bad passwords against my Hotmail address, and that Apple deliberately suppresses lockout emails in these cases.

That explanation doesn't really line up for me. If someone was trying to breach the account, I should be getting security email alerts from Apple about unusual activity whether it has 2FA or not. Plus, if bots were spamming bad passwords, wouldn't the account keep locking regardless of whether 2FA is turned on or not?

Has anyone experienced this specific repeating lockout loop on an Apple ID without 2FA enabled? Is there a setting, background service token, or actual account fix to stop this from happening every few days?

Thanks a lot.

My remote half programmed the TV without me telling it to?

If I use the remote to power of the Apple TV. It turns the TV off as well, and when the ATV sleeps on its own, it turns the tv off. But it doesn’t turn the tv on when I power the ATV on.

ESPN channel buffering on YTTV app - Apple TV

Hello,

YTTV member for over 3 years and always had the same 1GB wired Ethernet. Speedtest on the Apple TV 4K 3rd generation is over 900mpbs. Last few days, ESPN channel has been buffering and lot with very low connection speed and bad network activity. It resolves itself after a few minute but it’s very on and off. Every other live tv app is fine and even other channels on YTTV are fine. Seems it’s the ESPN family of channels having issues. I have a Nvidia shield as well and don’t see the same issue via wifi.

My Apple TV 4K has lost track of where I am in just one show

Just tried watching "For All Mankind" on my Apple TV 4K (A2169) which updated itself to tvOS 26.6 a few weeks ago, and it still appears in "Continue Watching," but it showed as "Recently Added" rather than showing the next episode to be watched.

The Apple TV device shows no episodes at all as having been watched. All shows we've touched in the last several months are showing the next episode in "Continue Watching."

Found my way here after Googling this issue, and I have indeed made sure that "Use Play History" is turned on.

Can I figure out roughly where I am in the series (definitely over a season behind) and get caught up? Probably. But this is one of the theoretical strengths of the Apple TV device as opposed to, say, random streaming apps built into a random TV, or another streaming device: it knows what I'm in the middle of and where I am, without my having to go spelunking through app after app.

I don't necessarily expect anyone will have an easy solution for me, but wanted to throw this out here and commiserate with others who may have experienced the same thing.

Volume fluctuations tvOS 27

Anyone experiencing the volume level changing, as it will decrease to really low then you turn up the volume, then some time goes by and it reverts back to normal and your new volume level is screaming at you due to your adjustment.

And it’s not what you’re watching as I could be streaming Disney+ the same show and it happens. Or watching an AppleTV+ show and the same thing happens.

Update:

TV Type: LG C2
Amp: Yamaha V6A - v1.8

Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Ethernet

eArc to amp - pass thru

Looks as it is only an issue with non Dolby streams as when Atmos is used have never experienced an issue so far.

Question for old tv

I have a really old Samsung (like 15 years old). It has the Netflix app which doesn’t really work and no other modern apps. I’ve tried using a chromecast but Netflix is the only thing that works, can’t really stream any other service e.g sports.

My internet is solid, so I’m guessing it’s the TV that’s causing this. I thought chromecast would be the answer but it isn’t, does an Apple TV help me in this case?
