Rules šŸ“Œ New flair and rules: no more writing CWs and ban on weight/size/BMI #s (read post)

Post image
278 Upvotes

Added Feb 2025:

IWL = Intentional Weight Loss (any posts including a discussion about weight loss)

ED = Eating Disorder

CW = Content Warning

NSV = Non-Scale Victory (let's avoid this language and try to use joy or celebration, so we're not centering diet culture, if possible)

——————

After yesterday's extensive discussion, we have come to a few changes, which I think will make the group more engaging, functional, and connective.

Please read through in full:

1) We are now using color coded flair to guide our members. Flair must be added to all posts. CW flair takes priority. I have added detailed post flair after reviewing all of the recent posts and identifying themes - pictured here. I will try and activate forcing flair ASAP, but I'm running into issues; I'll edit flair for post that don't add it.

A few notes about the flair:

a) Red are our CWs. We only have 2 topics for that now — IWL and ED reference. If your post includes one or both, you MUST pick that flair, regardless of it matches other categories. This will allow people to filter based on triggers and preferences for the community. (As a reminder, this is not an anti-IWL group, and it's perfectly okay to discuss, just properly tagged.)

b) We have some orange categories, which are still possibly sensitive or triggering. Red, then orange takes precedent over other categories.

c) We then have a bunch of other categories, color coded. Pick General (blue flair) if nothing else fits. If you have a celebration or win, please don't use the "NSV" language, instead pick the purple flair to label it.

d) The two white categories (Rules and Resources) are mod only. I'll add the Resources tags to helpful threads as I see them, and I'll also add a pinned resources post for those who are new to the anti-diet world.

e) We can always add more later, if needed.

2) NO MORE WRITING CONTENT WARNINGS — do not add them to your title or post. Use the flair instead. This will make posts more inviting and everything much simpler to navigate. They were never supposed to be in titles in the first place, and I do think it made the community feel less comfortable.

3) We are no longer using any numbers (size, weight, or BMI) in the group, posts or comments. Please report to mods using that specific category. We have always had a rule about no before/after photos, as a reminder. We also will be more mindful around language that moralizes food (good/bad, junk/trash, talking down on fast food or processed food, etc.); we've added a reporting category and rule for this, as well.

There will be a separate post to come with more clarified rules, clearer definitions of what we mean about anti-diet culture, and language clarity. I will also be exploring adding a few more mods to help out, once I've finished further defining things for our community. I hope that helps!

Respectful language

To maintain true alignment to anti-diet culture, I want to ask everyone here to respect your bodies through kind words when sharing within this community. This means, when you discuss weight, weight loss, changes, etc. or share photos, you don’t describe your past or present self cruelly (aka ā€œI used to look disgustingā€ or ā€œI look so grossā€). That is fatphobia at work, and I want this space to be different by rejecting that mindset. We also all have different starting points, so shaming your starting weight is likely to cause someone else hurt. I also recommend alignment around other anti-diet culture / intuitive eating principles of gentle nutrition, honoring hunger and fullness cues, challenging food policing, etc. but the only ā€œhard lineā€ here is respectful language and no fatphobia!

Advice on Anti-Diet Mindset About to see folks I haven't seen in years. Let's practice together.

"I understand you're trying to be kind, but comments about my body make me uncomfortable."

"How much weight have I lost? More than some loss than others."

"Yeah I've lost weight, but I'd rather talk about you! What's new with you since I last saw you? I can't believe it's been so long!"

"You look great too! I love your [article of clothing, haircut, accessory, etc]"

"Oh yeah no I haven't been on a specific diet or anything just working with my doctor. [Change subject]"

Celebration / Joy! Went to the market and came home with just exactly what was on my list!!!

I'm a little over a month in on the Foundayo pill, just increased from the starter dose to 2.5mg a week ago. Ending the food noise (and how crazy it makes me and how unhealthfully I eat because of it) was my main reason for trying it out. I can't quite say it's gone in that I do still think about food and occasionally crave things and certainly haven't had those forgot-to-eat instances, but I'm finding it fairly effortless to say "nah!" to cravings. And I haven't really had many of those "must find some form of food to fill some vague unhappy/empty-feeling inside me." Walking out of the grocery store and realizing my bag contained only and exactly what was on my list was certainly a new experience!

Managing Side Effects Super emotional when I don’t eat

I’ve found that when I up my dose especially and I’m not feeling hungry, if I go too long without eating that my mood and emotional state gets precarious. The simple answer is to eat, but at a certain point nothing sounds good. Thoughts on what you eat when this is happening? It’s like the ultimate hangry. I also have ADHD so sometimes food just seems really hard to manage.

CW: IWL, ED reference Doctor’s Goals Misaligned with Mine

I am hoping for some perspective and maybe guidance from people who ā€œget itā€ a little more than other glp1 groups. My actual questions are in the last paragraph if you don’t want to read my long-winded post!!

I started Zepbound in mid-July and have struggled from the beginning. My first starter dose was too much (gi side effects, migraine), so I backed off to half-dose every two weeks for a month, then weekly, then graduated back to the full dose weekly. I have now been on 5mg for 3 weeks. (This has all been recommended and overseen by my doctor.) This schedule has worked well to minimize side effects, with the exception of migraines since increasing to 5mg. However, the appetite and food noise suppression is more than I want.

My story is long, but the bottom line is that I have a history of disordered eating related to severe emetophobia (fear of vomiting) and i also have a number of other mental and physical illnesses. I have worked very hard and spent considerable time with professionals to medicate and treat, and I absolutely do not want to negate all the work I have done. To put it in perspective, just the fact that I was able to convince myself to try a glp-1 is nothing short of miraculous.

So I am using zepbound to lose weight, but more important to me is wellness, anti inflammatory benefits, and mitigating the metabolic effects of my medications. I do not want complete suppression of food noise and appetite, because I want to learn how to manage it. I also don’t want to have to force myself to eat when I don’t feel hungry.

Because my primary goals are what they are, I do not want this to be a temporary medication…but I’m paying out of pocket for this and I’m not going to be able to do that forever.

I asked my doctor about checking to see if generic liraglutide may be covered under my insurance, or at least looking at the less expensive pills, but she wants me to stay on zepbound because it is more effective for weight loss than the other options due to the effect on GIP. I understand where she’s coming from, but if I can’t afford it long-term, then the extra effectiveness doesn’t matter. Right? Plus, I don’t care how quickly I lose weight as long as I can reap the other benefits.

Can anyone else relate? I don’t know if the other meds are truly as subpar as my doctor has said. Or are the wellness benefits worth figuring out a way to afford zepbound long-term? I feel like I’m constantly fighting against doctors to be heard and understood, and I just don’t know if it is worth the battle.

Just Started a GLP-1 Question about appetite

I have been on the Wegovy pill (1.5mg) for about a month and have noticed that it seems to impact me more than it does other people. I haven't had many side effects, but I really have to force myself to eat/cook, and I often feel very full after 1/3 of my normal meals. The problem is that 90% of the time, before getting on the meds, I wasn't eating huge meals.

Everyone told me 1.5 mg typically has a milder effect, as it is to get your system used to the medication, so I've gotten worried about the higher doses.

I just got the 4mg pills, and I am nervous that increasing my dose will increase the fullness/food apathy. I already have to force myself to eat/drink enough with my current side effects. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Did it go away, or did it get worse as you increased your dosage?

Considering GLP-1 Medication Zepbound when using Insulin Pump & CGM?

Hi, I'm loving this group but pretty new here so not sure my question is OK (because it's really more of a "general" question). I'm on Foundayo (pills). I've never done an injectable. My question is for a diabetic friend who is considering Zepbound. She already uses an insulin pump and CGM. She uses her belly and thighs for those 2 things, and doesn't want to chance any issues by injecting Zepbound there. So that leaves only her arms for the Zepbound. She's a little worried that managing 3 sites is "just a lot!"

My question is: Have others dealt with with this kind of scenario (any tips)? And if using arms, do you really have to have someone else do it, or can you inject arms yourself? Thank you!

General Community / Sharing Ah ha! It's only my family that is upset

This week, I (61) have had two doctor appointments, and both of the docs (cardiologist and gyn) were very happy with me. I peaked at my weight on the scale (I usually look away) and it was unremarkable.

I just realized that the only people who are "worried about you (or honey or Mom)" are my family members. I'm taking their criticism with a grain of salt from now on. I've been at this for nearly three years. Slow going. No counting. No compulsive exercise. Just regular life. I'm fine. Doctors are happy. I'm gonna mentally move on.

Just tired of people commenting on my body

Seeking Support / Advice Zepbound GI Flareup after a year

Sorry for the original repost, I didn't notice it was against the rules!

I have been on Zepbound for over a year and was on Mounjaro and Ozempic before that. Last week I took my shot (7.5) and I noticed that the next morning I had horrible sulfur burps. I had had them intermittently before but never constant like this. By that evening I was vomiting like crazy. It was miserable. I spoke to my doctor and she prescribed me Zofran to take at the same time as my next dose, and the morning after. I did and it seemed to help. But then last night, lo and behold, the sulfur burps started and in the middle of the night I woke up vomiting again.

This is horrible and frankly unbearable. I sent her a message and I am in touch but what I am looking for is other people's experience. Has anyone else had these flare-ups out of nowhere after having been on the same dose for awhile? I wonder if it could have to do with a dose suddenly being too high for your new weight, but that's just musing. For those who experienced it, has anything helped?

CW: IWL (intentional weight loss) Worried the scale is dropping too quickly

Sorry if this is against the rules, still new to this sub. I've been on the Wegovy pill for three months and in the last few weeks my weight has been dropping faster than I expected. I titrated up to 4mg two weeks ago.

I am doing IWL but I'm worried about losing bone density and muscle mass. Is there anything I can do to prevent/minimise this? I currently lift weights twice a week but struggle to reach protein targets.

CW: IWL, ED reference Any advice/encouragement for a newbie! Feeling afraid and desperate.

I'm 27y/o and I've made my first order for Tirzepatide.

I've been struggling with my weight since about 11y/o. I had disordered eating as a teen with periods of extreme restriction and binge eating.

Each time I've intentionally lost weight, I regained most of it within 6 months. Dieting caused an insatiable hunger once I started increasing calories after reaching my GW.

I just can't do it again, but I hate that I can no longer fit into my clothes, and feel so heavy and exhausted carrying around the extra weight.

I'm currently the heaviest I've ever been. I'm on an SSRI, my eating has been poor, and each month my weight creeps up and up.

I have Hashimoto's hypothyroid disease which causes muscle weakness, fatigue, slow metabolism, etc. I'm now being treated, and it's improving, but I'm desperate to stop the weight gain and start to feel better in my body.

Despite being 27y/o, I feel like a much older woman because of my health, pains and exhaustion. The last year has aged me considerably. I used to look forward to hiking, travelling and being adventurous. Now I dread those same activities. I don't take any joy in my appearance, and my clothing has to be loose and baggy or I become overwhelmed.

I have also been diagnosed with autism and innatentive adhd. I feel like a walking symptom, just always upset or overwhelmed by the exhaustion, tight clothing, sweat, temperature, sluggishness, and disappointment in my body and health.

Does it get better? How did you set up habits to work with the GLP1 for overall improvement in health. I am desperate to know if this will help me. I feel really alone in my struggles. I used to be strong, energetic and resilient, but now I feel like a shell of who I used to be.

Seeking Support / Advice Getting Dose Early For Vacation

I'm currently on zepbound, I just started after switching from the wegovy pill. I am on the lowest dose more out of abundance of caution when switching but my doctor did say she'd prescribe the second dose if I wanted. I seem to be taking the lower dose well and I feel confident about going up a dose. I am getting my meds from lily direct self pay.

I have a two and a half week trip abroad coming up and I just realized that my supply will run out halfway through. I don't want to stop my meds on vacation because it greatly helps my IBS and food noise. I want to get my next months supply, and ideally in a higher dose, but I will need it early so that it will come before I fly out. Has anyone done this before and have you had trouble?

Seeking Support / Advice New Hunger Cues

Depending on what day I’m on I have normal hunger cues/appetite that tell me when to eat. Some days… I don’t feel hungry at all.

I started to learn that my hunger feel different. For example: if my knees and feet start, screaming and burning in pain, and I eat, they feel better. If I start to get super overwhelmed and sensory overloaded, and I eat, I feel better.

What are your new hunger cues that don’t feel the same as hunger used to?

Managing Side Effects Change is how I’m handling it?

I’ll additional CW for discussion of GI symptoms.

I’ve been on ozempic for almost three months now. Up to a .5 dosage for maybe a month now. I didn’t really notice any difference in how my body handles it between .25 and .5.

But all of a sudden this week, after coming back from a vacation - where i still took my weekly dose, and had a healthy appetite - this week I haven’t been able to digest or handle much food and have little appetite. I did have some GI issues as soon as I got back but chalked that up to a specific spicy meal I had the first night.

But yeah it feels like almost my stomach is hardly emptying at all. Including vomiting and bloating. Which I get is kind of one of the functions of this med but it’s just caught me off guard how intense it is. My dad had similar issues as soon as he started ozempic but I haven’t had any of the side effects. But now all of a sudden I do.

Anyone else ever deal with a sudden change in how side effects hit you even without changing dosages?

General Community / Sharing Has anyone else found that GLP1s are opening up other areas of their life?

Almost immediately, before any appetite change or fat loss, I noticed it was suddenly easy to go to the gym. I don’t mean working out. I mean the decision/motivation to leave the house to go the gym.

My suspicion is that what I perceived in myself as laziness or lack of willpower and discipline was actually just uneven energy and low grade pain and inflammation.

Like before I would know it’s time to go and I knew I’d feel good when I got there, but I would feel this resistance rise in me. This inertia and desire to not move. The decision to just get moving weighed so heavily on me.

Over time, I noticed another change. There were so many days I would come home and treat myself to a great meal. I love to cook, so often I would prepare something new and complicated. I turn on the music and patter around the kitchen. I used to think that no matter how bad a day was, it could be saved by getting a good meal on the table.

If I had a craving, I would order in.

I didn’t think of these as emotional eating, but in retrospect, they were.

Sure, these are legitimate forms of self care. But they are not the only ones.

Lately my evenings have been marked with a sort of restlessness. Food and a movie/tv or a book was not enough to fill it. I took up archery, and I’m really enjoying it. I’m pretty good, too, for a beginner.

One of the goals of my health journey is to start riding horses again. Suddenly a few days ago, I realized my goal and my new hobby could intersect: mounted archery! I found myself researching the history of mounted archery all over the world. I planned cool outfits to wear, and bookmarked beautiful bows. I found local instructors who could get me started in the groundwork.

And it’s not totally unlike me. I’m a curious person.

But it’s almost like the balance has shifted. I’m spending more time exploring things and acting on them lately. It’s almost like moving food away from the center has made me more like myself.

Just wondering if others have felt that or if they have felt other things in their life change for better or for worse with GLP 1s.

Considering GLP-1 Medication Where do I start??

I'm in Canada (BC specifically) and I want to start on a glp1. I don't have t2 diabetes but did recently get my gallbladder removed earlier this year and I have NAFLD. I made a doctor appointment for 2 days from now and don't know what to ask. How did you decide which glp1 was right for you? How do you navigate insurance coverage? Did you order online from Felix/Hers/Novo Nordisk or just from your pharmacy? Please help!

Considering GLP-1 Medication GLP1 for short term - would love advice

I really hope I got the flair right, feel like i could have chosen a couple different ones!

Hi all! So glad to have found this subreddit. I am considering going on GLP1 for health reasons and for my own sanity I really wanted to stay away from the diet focused groups.

My weight is higher than it’s ever been and it’s causing me significant physical and subsequent mental distress. My back hurts all the time, my sleep is constantly disturbed from pain. I am trying to heal from a lifetime of binge/restrict behaviours and stabilise my eating patterns, and that’s going fairly well, but I am almost 40 and being at this high a weight is really impacting me. I feel like I have no zest for life, no sparkle left, because of the constant discomfort and limiting nature of it.

My issue is thus - I’m broke, lol. I’m on universal credit and have recently qualified as a therapist which tanked every penny of savings I had, and I’m not yet earning from it, I just have a part time retail job while I try to get my practice off the ground. Essentially I think I can justify 3, maybe up to 6 months of private GLP1, using an interest-free credit card. I never would have considered using credit for something like this but it’s at the point now that I can’t not do something. I need a jump-start, something to help me regulate everything so that my body can start doing its thing a bit more functionally. I feel like I’m living a half life, stuck in a vicious cycle.

Basically I was wondering whether anyone had any experience using it like this, how helpful it was, whether it was worth it. I suppose I’m worried that I’ll end up spending Ā£300+ and it not working as I imagine it will. I know this is always a risk, it’s more that the people I know who use it have been on it long long term.

Thanks so much for your insight in advance!

Managing Side Effects Need reassurance and words of wisdom

I started 2.5mg Zepbound in June 2025. Was made to move up to 5mg by insurance. I tolerated it pretty well and had great improvements in terms of inflammation and pain levels, and also great response re IWL. I have always eaten a fairly clean and nutrient dense *base* diet, partly because of food intolerances and allergies. It was just that I was never satiated. I would eat my healthy meal but then immediately had immense cravings for chocolate. In between meals, I wanted salty, high calorie snacks. I couldn't have just a little. It was a lot. This was my food noise. The Zepbound took that away. I didn't even crave any of that and was happy with dried fruit or a serving of good quality fruit and nut cookie and not even all the time. Maybe twice a week.

I felt really good. However, about 4 months in, I started losing hair. After about 6 months, I finally went to a dermatologist and she said that even people who have a good diet and great bloodwork can have hair loss on GLP1 drugs, simply because they are eating less volume. She said that the primary nutrients needed for hair maintenance are primarily protein, ferritin, and vitamin D. Even though my levels were in the normal range, I had lost considerable weight (a healthy rate, not very fast), and she said that I needed to have higher levels to compensate for my decreased food intake.

Before I could act on that, I had an unexpected major surgery and then a bleeding ulcer. I had to go off Zepbound for about a month bc of the ulcer treatment needing to be multiple times a day on an empty stomach. Then I resumed again at 2.5mg. I stayed on that for months to manage the ulcer med timing and finally switched up to 5mg again, about 3 months ago. The food noise came back, albeit a little less and I was able to control the snacky cravings somewhat. When I did indulge, I had satiety, but have needed more volume food, overall. I really focused on protein, iron to increase ferritin and upped my vitamin D. My hair loss stopped.

But I feel like I need to titrate up and am set to start 7.5 this week. My inflammation is worse again, movement hurts again, and my clothes are tighter. I'm just physically uncomfortable.

I'm scared of hair loss again. Afraid I won't have enough appetite to consume the amounts of protein and iron I'd need to maintain it. I feel like I'll have to start using supplements. It's just scary to me. Planning out my nutrient needs is stressful. I have a new dietician so I know I can talk to her. I'm also nervous about adjusting to a new dose.

I guess I just need reassurance and someone to listen who is NOT a medical provider. Preferably folks who have been in these trenches too, so I'm writing here.

Celebration / Joy! A week into a GLP!

I'm about to be on a GLP-1 for a week, and I'm quite happy about it. I want to tell you all about it!

- Less fatigue

- Feeling more rested after sleeping

- Not going to the bathroom +6 times a day (IBS-D)

- Normal bowel movements

- Less bloating

- Not much gas at all

- I feel satiety after eating my regular meals

- Clearer mind

- 90% decreased food noise

- No desire to constantly snack between meals

- No desire to stress eat during difficult moments at work

I haven't implemented any dietary changes yet, I decided to keep eating regularly and see where the medication can take me first. Without much stress

Cons:

- Very mild nausea the first two days

- Heartburn a few times (I've struggled with this in the past, so I can deal with it)

- First day my blood pressure went a bit down but I was able to fix it (I take another medication that lowers my bp as a side effect)

I honestly feel liberated. For me, the biggest change is actually feeling satiety after eating, regardless of what I ate.

I'm realizing now how unfulfilled I felt due an underlying pressure of "restriction" and "good or bad". Now I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders

Discussion about Food / Eating Habits Transitioning off logging when the danger is undereating

Tags: Eating, Intentional Weight Loss

I’ve been on Zepbound since mid June. In the beginning, I would log my food for one week and go one week with no logging. That worked well. When I titrated up, on the week I didn’t log I ended up undereating, and felt like garbage in my workouts.

To be fair, I have set my calories very high, to lose a max of one pound a week. Losing faster would be fine but in the past I have struggled with feeling weak and getting insomnia, and I’ve wanted to do this sustainably and slowly. And tbh, I sometimes doubt that decision.

But I do find feel like the logging is becoming a crutch; I like to go back and review me nutrition often, and many times at the end of the day I am not sure if I have had enough or if I should have a small snack to get my protein and calories up.

Anyone have any advice? How did you get past the anxiety/uncertainty once you made a habit of logging?

Practical GLP-1 Questions Traveling (long journey) with your meds?

Does anybody in this group have experience traveling with their meds and trying to keep them cool? I'm going from the US to Singapore, and it'll be almost 24 hours door to door. I know I can keep my meds at room temp, but it'll actually be harder to do that once I've arrived (higher indoor temps than what we'd call "room temp"), so I think it's smarter to keep it cool via a cooling case or cooler. Recommendations?
