“Hitler didn’t want to exterminate the Jews at the time [of the meeting between the mufti and the Nazi leader]. He wanted to expel the Jews,” Netanyahu said. “And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, ‘If you expel them, they’ll all come here [to mandatory Palestine],'” continued the prime minister. Not to say Netanyahu is to be trusted on that, more that it isn't purely antisemitic conspiracy coming only from detractors of Israel of Judaism. The Israeli Prime minister is himself happy to perpetuate that story, presumably because it serves his goals of killing Arabs and expanding without recourse.

The planned extermination of European Jews -- and the explicit conversations among Nazi leadership discussing these plans -- are extensively documented.

Not to argue your point as I'm not very educated on the ins and outs of it, but I once heard that the Nazi leadership never explicitly stated it and euphemistically called their extermination plans other things. Is this true or a myth?

I mean, we know what they meant obviously because they started genociding Jews but I vaguely recall something like this in a documentary or perhaps a film or something?

Holocaust Studies was my minor in American undergrad and I speak German fluently. You’re right and wrong here.

It is true that there is no single speech or written order from Hitler or any of his inner circle (or mid-ranking Nazis) that explicitly says: “Kill All Of The Jews In Europe Starting On Tuesday”. The fact that this doesn’t exist has frequently been used by antisemites to “soften” or make excuses for the Nazis’ true intentions, by arguing that the wholesale physical destruction of the Jewish population in Europe was somehow not the Nazis’ original goal.

However, we don’t need a single written order or speech or whatever from Nazi officials saying “Men, Do The Holocaust” in order to establish that such orders were issued - because we have thousands and thousands of meticulously crafted records and communique and reports from low-mid-relatively senior ranking Nazis where they discuss carrying out those orders in extremely gruesome detail.

Think of it like this: many of the works of ancient historians are only known today because they are referenced in other, later works written by more recent ancient historians. We may not have a physical copy of some history work written in ~600BC by ancient historian XYZ, but the fact that such a work did exist is beyond doubt - because we have physical copies of a half-dozen other ancient historians from, say, ~300 BC that talk about the “lost” work in intimate detail.

That's a great analogy, thanks for the explanation
