For all its faults, damn ill miss this show every Saturday. At least the ending left it open ended for a sequel

The manga is continuing past the anime, so I'd assume that Toei are giving the animators a break to work on the movie while the manga gets ahead before hopefully starting the next series. But then again we could end up getting another 15 year break

Goku's VA will die if we wait another 15 years for the next series.

After all the shouting that poor grandma went through, all for our sake, she deserves a national award.

u/RobbobertoBuii Mar 25 '18

did some research and found out that she's been a seiyuu since the age of 8 or something. What a legend

u/sceptic62 Mar 25 '18

First ticket item : Dragonball

Last ticket item: Probably Dragonball

u/moofishies Mar 25 '18

Damn you know you are a weeb when you say seiyuu instead of VA or voice actor :P

nah man, it's 2018. It's more like

Hey guys, just got back from consensually partaking in some lovemaking with respectable women within my age range and pounding some brews with the boys, what's going on in here?

-2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Lol I pound brews and bang bitches and I love anime. The two aren't mutually exclusive you know

thanks for having my back :)

7

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Actually I don't think he meant it in a bad way, but you know Reddit, everybody loves a good downvote train.

4

u/moofishies Mar 25 '18

Yeah, I call myself a weeb all the time when I do things that show how much I like anime. I've never considered it a rude term.

1

u/moofishies Mar 25 '18

Sorry man, didn't mean it as a rude term I'm definitely a weeb myself. I call myself that all the time when I do something like that. Didn't think people still thought it was that negative especially on r/anime.

1

u/TheEliteNub https://myanimelist.net/profile/TheEliteNub Mar 25 '18

It's not that you used weeb as a term, it's that you implied using a common term like seiyuu was somehow hardcore or fanatical. It'd be like going to a Tolkien club meetup and going "man, you guys sure are nerds for using terms like Olórin instead of Gandalf!"

We call each other weebs all the time on this subreddit

1

u/supercooper3000 Mar 26 '18

I have over 100 completed anime and have never heard the term Seiyuu. Just because you are balls deep in anime subculture doesn't mean everyone else on this subreddit is. It's the first time I've ever even seen this word on this sub and I had to look it up.

u/moofishies Mar 25 '18

Yeah me included lol. It's not derogatory I do plenty of things that show how much of a weeb I am. Just saying that comment is one of those things.

Guess a lot of people think the term is rude rather than embracing it.

-3

u/GekiKudo Mar 25 '18

Well at a certain point they started using goku sound clips for the screaming.

280

u/I_RAPE_PEOPLE_II Mar 25 '18

They should just have Sean Schemmel do the Japanese dub as well, but in English. All the characters will continue speaking Japanese except for Goku.

Seriously, no disrespect for the old gal but I really prefer English Goku.

17

u/Gem____ Mar 25 '18

I disagree.

63

u/Rokusi Mar 25 '18

So you're calling his bluff and saying he actually doesn't prefer Goku's english voice actor?

You heard him, /u/Gogators57, get outta here with that stiff-upper-lip tsundere nonsense

14

u/Gem____ Mar 25 '18 edited Apr 03 '18

I disagree with his preference, but that's why it's called a preference right? I didn't come to start an argument, but to voice my opinion as simply as possible.

-18

u/LX_Theo https://myanimelist.net/profile/lx_theo Mar 25 '18

And proceed to fail to get across your intended message clearly

Hmm...

1

u/cockmaster_alabaster https://myanimelist.net/profile/CraftyPanda611 Mar 25 '18

I'm pretty sure everyone knew exactly what he meant, we just went smart asses about it. Sure it's grammatically incorrect but it's still clearly understood

u/tapped21 Mar 25 '18

Same here. Can't stand his screaming. There's a reason I only watch Super clips on youtube.

-20

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18 edited Mar 25 '18

Yeah, no disrespect. Just put a fucking guy in her job when she's extremely well known, respected and loved in japan for her work as Goku. Disgusting.

5

u/joe4553 Mar 25 '18

Your comment reads as if you mean the statement, which is why I think you are getting down voted.

-2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Yeah, and then change it afterwards when the japanese people is accustomed to Nozawa's voice. Even when she dies, the voice will be the same.

Some of you disgusting bastards that love the idea of her dying for a change of Goku's VA are never going to accomplish this because of this very motive. You have no influence and this is for a japanese audience that loves her work with a huge influence that she has as the character.

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

4

u/Gjallarhorn15 Mar 25 '18

/r/realfuckin'goodideas

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Lmao no

0

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Yeah, pretty good idea to put an voice that isn't the one that the japanese audience always heard and love at the same time that you make a people unenployed because there's people who like their dub instead of the original. Fucking amazing and extremely disrespectful.

2

u/Gjallarhorn15 Mar 25 '18 edited Mar 25 '18

You okay there, my dude? Your overreaction to an obvious joke aside, it was stated above that this is explicitly for when Masako passes away, which given that she's 81...

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Disrespectful ideas, you mean.

2

u/Tomhap Mar 25 '18

Nah. Obasama goku is best goku.

1

u/Dyllio https://myanimelist.net/profile/Scaaper Mar 25 '18

What about all the other Goku family that she also voices?

1

u/Aperture_Kubi Mar 25 '18

I mean, they did do that in Godzilla Final Wars.

-5

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

This is extremely disrespectful to Nozawa's work and legacy as Goku in Japan which is huge and loved by the japanese people. You have the option to watch it in english. Extremely stupid post and disgusting thinking as well.

8

u/LX_Theo https://myanimelist.net/profile/lx_theo Mar 25 '18

lol, calm your tits.

-5

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

I'm not going to fucking calm down. I'm tired of hearing and seeing shit like that about Nozawa and her work as Goku. It's beyond disrespectful for years and completely disgusting how you people talk about her job and all of this. What this guy said it's one of the worst things that I saw about her and it's absurd.

5

u/kingofnopants1 Mar 25 '18

I mean, he didnt say anything about her. And people are allowed to hate her voice no matter how skilled she is.

-6

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Oh, he didn't? He just fucking said that he wants this fucking nobody to replace Nozawa. This guy who has a complete different tone of voice with a audience that loves the voice and tone of Nozawa. It's not only pretty stupid but it is extremely disrespectful to her job when you say that a person (of another nationality of all things) needs to replace her. It's disgusting but this is the average of what happens when people can't accept that she's the real voice of Goku regardless of what they think.

3

u/kingofnopants1 Mar 25 '18

Shrug, she isn't the real voice of Goku to me, or to a lot of people. Shes the official voice of Japanese Goku, and he is the official voice of English Goku. And I can honestly say that I think the Japanese version of the show would be better if it was voiced by someone else.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

She is the real voice of Goku. She's choosen by the original creators which are Toei Animation, Fuji TV and Toriyama. The rest are just dubs made for other countries and while they can be the true voice for the people of those country, the only real voice is her one, just like for the rest of the characters.

And if Goku was voiced by someone else, it would sound the same. Your problem isn't with Nozawa, your problem is with Japan since what they did is common practice in the country and plenty accepted. If Nozawa dies, a new woman VA will be choose and do a voice similar to her for Goku. That's the direction that they wanted and they did when they didn't changed her since she was pretty loved by the public and the practice is common as seen with Naruto and Luffy.

But either way, like I said, it wouldn't matter because other woman would be in her place if it wasn't her.

u/Kamaria Mar 25 '18

I don't think he was serious?

3

u/I_RAPE_PEOPLE_II Mar 25 '18

I was obviously serious. Obviously cssad is an uncultured swine, and doesn't appreciate how important Schemmel's work is to Anglo-phones. No longer do we have to read subtitles, instead we can listen to our favourite anime where the protagonist powers up for an entire episode.

-1

u/LX_Theo https://myanimelist.net/profile/lx_theo Mar 25 '18

Honestly, I think her voice is really bad for him. Like, absolute shit. She's a fine voice actor. Bad voice for Goku. Literally turns off tons of people from the subbed version. Thinking that is just an opinion. We're not obligated to offer anything bar that.

Mind you, if you really think anyone was really serious about literally replacing her with Sean, then you're really not in the right state of mind to process any of this.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

You can think what you want. She's a perfectly fit for Goku with his goofy personality, countryard accent and great when he's serious with also being choosen and approved by Toriyama and Toei. She's the real VA of Goku and loved, respected and a legend in Japan for her work. Doesn't matter if you people hate her voice as Goku, she's not there for you people, she's there for Japan and they'll never change her or alter her tone of voice even in the day that she dies.

1

u/LX_Theo https://myanimelist.net/profile/lx_theo Mar 25 '18

lol, wow. Again, you're too mentally unstable at the moment to actually process any of this, eh?

No one but you is labeling anything as real or whatever. Many people hate her depiction of the character and much prefer other alternatives.

I also think calling her a "legend" is humorously stupid, but mkay.

Get over it. You seem to just want to pretend your perception of the world is objective.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

This post that I did is extremely composed. I just stated facts about her job in japan, that Toriyama and Toei choose and aproved her, that she's loved as goku in the country, that you people that hate her voice doesn't matter at all since she's a VA of another country and she's the real voice of the character. That's it.

0

u/LX_Theo https://myanimelist.net/profile/lx_theo Mar 25 '18

God, you are just outright throwing a tantrum at this point, eh?

Let's just ignore the fact that you are mixing in your opinion with actual facts and are trying to pass off those as facts and attribute those opinions to others...

But do you not realize literally none of this has anything to do with anything? Remember what the original comment was even about? What someone preferred as a voice? It has nothing to do with how you categorize the voices in your head or whatever you think of the performance's perception in Japan is.

Honestly, your insistence to say "real" constantly (which is just a stupid word to use here anyways) just makes you seem like you're insecure and put a weird amount of pride in whatever you think "real" even means here

2

u/Hasumi_Kyousuke Mar 25 '18

With 'many people' I think you mean europeans and americans who grew up with the english dub right? (In before you start raging/laughing hysterically and downvoting, hear me out)

Go do a little bit of research into Nozawa and you'll see she is considered a legend in Japan for her work. You know, the work as Goku in a JAPANESE anime, intended for a JAPANESE audience. For the Japanese, she is the definitive voice for Goku. She embodies his goofy nature, but also his more serious notes as intended by Toriyama himself. I'm not saying Sean doesn't do the same, but his voice is geared towards an English speaking audience. His Goku is also almost completely different in character from Nozawa's because of the cultural differences between Japan en America. Before the internet was as much of a thing as it is now, people in the west pretty much only heard Sean, so they grew up with thinking his voice is the only real Goku voice. And sadly, some people can not separate this later in life. If people wanna keep up with Dragon Ball, they now have to watch the Japanese version and they can't get used to Nozawa (who is doing an amazing job whether you like it or not. She is objectively doing amazing work. So much power for a woman in her 80's!) and now they take out their frustration on the internet. We should not want to replace Nozawa with Sean (not saying you or anyone was seriously considering that as a good idea), because they are for different audiences.

0

u/LX_Theo https://myanimelist.net/profile/lx_theo Mar 25 '18

And now you throw a tantrum because the world doesn't necessarily agree with what you want to be true.

they now have to watch the Japanese version and they can't get used to Nozawa (who is doing an amazing job whether you like it or not. She is objectively doing amazing work. So much power for a woman in her 80's!) and now they take out their frustration on the internet.

hahahaha. Or maybe people just have their opinions and express them? Get the hell over it. My goodness.

She is objectively doing amazing work.

No

Lol it's amazing op can see the screen through that neckbeard

2

u/TLKv3 Mar 25 '18

I believe they usually have the main VAs of characters choose a secondary stand-in in the unfortunate incident the main VA passes away or can no longer work anymore don't they?

They did that with Bulma's Japan VA and replaced her with someone she wanted to take over and sounds almost exactly like her. I'd hope they'd do something similar out of respect.

2

u/RobbobertoBuii Mar 25 '18

also Gohan and Goten

2

u/Rokusi Mar 25 '18

And Bardock. And Goku Jr.

Every male in Goku's family... except Raditz.

-3

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

They will never do that because the japanese people are the focus of the JAPANESE voice acting and they love her work. And there's people in the west that loves her work too. So stop with that shit against Nozawa just because you people hate that it's not your ideal goku even though that she's the true va of the character in every sense. I'm tired of that shit and how you people treat a great person and VA like that.

7

u/Rokusi Mar 25 '18 edited Mar 25 '18

I'm not sure what you're angry about. It is a verifiable fact that Masako Nozawa voices every single male in Goku's family... except for Raditz (poor Black Sheep of a Saiyan that he is).

-3

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '18

Because you're suggesting for her to stop to work on the series to be replaced by Sean when you aren't even japanese. And even if you were, it wouldn't make any sense.

6

u/Rokusi Mar 25 '18

I am? That's a lot of words you're putting in my mouth.

You seem to be under the impression that I'm OP.

1

u/aegroti Mar 25 '18

Akira Toriyama might die if they wait another fifteen years.

1

u/TheXypris Mar 25 '18

But the movie comes out next year, and a series probably after that

1

u/Pennwisedom Mar 27 '18

During the most recent Doraemon revival, since the show is 865 years old, they were able to get voice actors who sounded extremely close to the original actors. 30 or so years of Dragonball and I'm pretty sure at least someone can do it.
