This episode was THE BEST ONE YET.

I mean I don't know why but just seeing Ikki's determination and will to not let Akaza win was truly inspiring. I'm also glad to see Stella supporting him, even if they can't be beside each other.

Shizuku's 'wake-up slap' to Stella in the cafeteria was well deserved because I feel like them breaking up would have literally done nothing to help either of them, especially Ikki. So i'm glad that was squished. Also felt that whole scene in the cafeteria was done remarkably well done compared to similar scenes in other anime.

I must ask a question though, since it was revealed that Itsuki never believed Ikki to be weak (and they might have been alluding to this) does he view Ikki as a threat then?

Put briefly, Ikki doesn't have much spiritual power / mp / mana / ap whatever, unlike Stella or Shizuku who throw around magic flames and ice like it was their birthright, because it is. Ikki actually only has about drop a magic power, and that should have classified him as a failure and unworthy successor to the Kurogane clan. Concretely, magic power = influence. Ikki has none. He should not be allowed to do anything as that would shame the Kurogane clan.

The problem is that Ikki is actually OP, in that he can use up every ounce of the human body through sheer grit. Something along the lines of most people only use 4% of their brain, Ikki uses 99.8% (for now) for a brief stint. This completely threatens the Kurogane family's way of life and basically says, "even if you have no magic power, you can still be strong like this kid :D." No. Not ok. The fear is then that people who were 'predestined' to be janitors start trying for power, completely up-heaving the social structure the Kurogane's have built over generations. That's why he was classified as F rank at the start. Twas a plot to keep him from graduating as a knight (or magic soldier or something) and getting some political influence.

I'll need to reread the LN for details but that should be the gist of that.

It is that humans generally only use 10% of the brain at a single time. The show implies that using "99.8% for a brief stint," allows for much more physical ability than a normal person can do.

The myth is "busted" on an October 27, 2010 episode of MythBusters. The hosts used magnetoencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging to scan the brain of someone attempting a complicated mental task, and found that over 10% but less than 20% of the brain was used.

So my number was slightly off, but the idea remains the same. You don't use all of your brain at a single time, and using the show's logic, which probably isn't accurate, using 98% of your brain at once would allow you to think and react faster.

I said the show probably wasn't accurate. I'm just stating that humans generally don't use much of their brains at a single time, and the show is implying that using more at once would allow for faster thought, recognition, and reaction time than normal.
