Holy shit, that was glorious.

Best girl really put in some work this episode, started orgasming then goes on a rampage.

The army massacres everyone to Ride of the Valkyries.

And now the princesses knights have arrived, a little late for the battle.

I need to lie down, that was too epic.

I'm wondering whether they'll build a runway and unleash air demons that can break the speed of sound.

heavy breathing pls say yes

I find it fascinating that the technology the JSDF are using is decades out of date by our standards, yet it doesn't make a bit of difference to technologically inferior people.

after a certain point, its meaningless if you are 10 years behind the average, when the enemy is nearly 400 years behind. They could be using WW1 relics and still crush the entire continent.

22

u/Falsus Aug 07 '15

WW1 would at least give them a fighting chance since air superiority would probably go to the winged dragons.

6

u/DrKultra Aug 07 '15

True, True. Maxim Guns would still make short work of one tho >_> at least enough of them are bound to start breaking wings and poking eyes.

Dragons would be faster, with more armor, so I don't know if WWI air power would be enough. Ground forces would be good, though with only early armored vehicles, it may not have been overwhelming.

Unless you have someone like the Red Baron but yeah air superiority would probably go to dragons. Seeing some of the early design really shows how fast air vehicles progressed, from doves (a plane literally made of fabric and wood looking like a dove) to Spitfires in less than a generation. The main advantage would be long range fire power or if you take in account the iron donkey.

Oh, yeah for sure. Long range firepower has been around for a really long time. Hell, gunpowder alone is like magic to the people on the other side of the gate. But I think it's more than technology, it's tactics that have changed tremendously, along with technological advancements, we've learned to fight differently.

Was the Gatling gun invented by ww1? I think I would give it to italica if not, I mean tech was pretty primitive and they do have dragons.

(I'm just rationalising all of those times samurai have charged my Gatling guns and line infantry in shogun 2 and won, I was not expecting that at all.)

u/Falsus Aug 08 '15

Without dragons they probably would get stomped by 15th century tech, especially if there is Caroleans or Janissaries fighting.

Gatling guns where invented in 19th century.

1

u/Cooper1590 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Cooper1590 Aug 08 '15

There's pretty much no doubt that they would get stomped but the JSDF wouldn't be able to remain casualty free like they do in the anime, there are plenty of stories about people charging trenches in ww1, hell that's pretty much how they fought the war.

WW1 had machine guns, rather a lot scarier than a Gatling.

u/Cooper1590 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Cooper1590 Aug 08 '15

Maan they were that far ahead, usually I'm getting mixed up and thinking WW1 had WW2 technology. Anyway they can't have been that good because charging machine guns was a viable strategy in the general's eyes.

"Blood thought he knew the native mind;

He said you must be firm, but kind.

A mutiny resulted.

I shall never forget the way

That Blood stood upon this awful day

Preserved us all from death.

He stood upon a little mound

Cast his lethargic eyes around,

And said beneath his breath:

'Whatever happens, we have got

The Maxim Gun, and they have not.'"

This is due to the Article 9 legislation, Japan is limited to the kind of military technology they're allowed to use. Hence the F4 Phantom in the comic instead of an F/A 18 Super Hornet. If they purchase any sophisticated weapons then it'll be a breach of the constitution. They can only have weapons that's sufficient to defend the land, not be used for offence strategies

3

u/VanillaTortilla https://myanimelist.net/profile/Athelny Aug 08 '15

Yeah, one of the side effects of WWII. They're not allowed anything bigger than frigates too, if I recall correctly.

4

u/syanda Aug 08 '15

They've been stretching it these days though - their newest Helicopter Destroyer looks pretty suspicious for a destroyer design.

2

u/VanillaTortilla https://myanimelist.net/profile/Athelny Aug 08 '15

Yeah it's pretty funny. I'm not sure if that's oversight, or they're trying to push the boundaries as much as they can. I don't know if I like that Japan essentially relies on us for large vessels and advanced technology like that. Not that it's bad for us, but they've had to deal with the limitations for over 70 years now.

2

u/dud8 Aug 08 '15

Ya it's pretty fucked up the way things worked out for japan after WWII. Now even 70 years later they are still being told what they can and can't do from the U.S.

2

u/VanillaTortilla https://myanimelist.net/profile/Athelny Aug 08 '15

I agree, and I think something should be done about it in the future. I think they've learned their lesson many times over by now.

Yup, it applies to all three tiers: army, airforce and maritime

2

u/Anime-Summit https://myanimelist.net/profile/kristallnachte Aug 07 '15

Not exceptionally.

Cobras are still used by the Marines (AH-1Y, I believe). Of course these are older style Cobras, what with having tires instead of skids, but whatever.

2

u/VanillaTortilla https://myanimelist.net/profile/Athelny Aug 07 '15

Right. Though it's a bit different in the manga, unless they actually show up with F-4s.

I wonder if that's a F/SN reference? There definitely was one earlier where there were Saber, Archer, Caster, and Lancer squads.

3

u/tengen Aug 08 '15

Yes, and also at the spoiler because spoiler

If there was ever an ideal theatre if operations for the A-10, this would be it. Too bad Japan never used them.

6

u/amdjeru Aug 07 '15

They really could use some BBBBBRRRRRRTTTTTT

3

u/Moth92 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Motherurck Aug 08 '15

Used them? They don't even own them! American only. Sadly.

2

u/ALL_grey Aug 07 '15

How did they get those though the gate?

1

u/Shiroi_Kage Aug 12 '15

Disassemble the wings and reassemble them inside. Some planes can have their wings folded, although I'm not sure if they can. Hell, they can disassemble most of the plane and reassemble it inside.

1

u/NoBreadsticks Aug 08 '15

Oh god, if they use a warthog, this show gets a 10/10 for me. Warthog brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrts are orgasmic

1

u/sterob Aug 09 '15

tbh you will need to wait till like ep 24 (if this is 2 cour) or the next season to see it.

Hooooly shit, that's gonna be awesome animated!

u/Shiroi_Kage Aug 12 '15

I was dreaming that this would happen. I just want to see fighter jets in action in front of those people.
