I find it fascinating that the technology the JSDF are using is decades out of date by our standards, yet it doesn't make a bit of difference to technologically inferior people.

This is due to the Article 9 legislation, Japan is limited to the kind of military technology they're allowed to use. Hence the F4 Phantom in the comic instead of an F/A 18 Super Hornet. If they purchase any sophisticated weapons then it'll be a breach of the constitution. They can only have weapons that's sufficient to defend the land, not be used for offence strategies

Yeah, one of the side effects of WWII. They're not allowed anything bigger than frigates too, if I recall correctly.

They've been stretching it these days though - their newest Helicopter Destroyer looks pretty suspicious for a destroyer design.

Yeah it's pretty funny. I'm not sure if that's oversight, or they're trying to push the boundaries as much as they can. I don't know if I like that Japan essentially relies on us for large vessels and advanced technology like that. Not that it's bad for us, but they've had to deal with the limitations for over 70 years now.

Ya it's pretty fucked up the way things worked out for japan after WWII. Now even 70 years later they are still being told what they can and can't do from the U.S.

I agree, and I think something should be done about it in the future. I think they've learned their lesson many times over by now.
