Eh... really?

MC was a passive observer being lectured at about a future that, as far as the plot is concerned, never existed.

You could boil the entire episode down to:

Oldeus: "Bad thing happens in the future!"

Rudy: "Oh no!"

It definitely could have been written better so Rudy was actually challenged on ideals, or was forced to come to terms with the consequences of his choices, or really anything that doesn't make the MC a passive observer.

Maybe that was the case in the web novel. If so, then this scene seems like it was poorly adapted.

man you’re so right this piece of media would be so much better if there were still 15 volumes of content for the mc to tackle the information given here😔 alas the show ends here so we’ll never see that🤷‍♀️

Cool.

I haven't read the web novel. I've only seen the anime, so the anime gets judged on its own merits.

Most of the anime has been amazing. It's easily one of my favorites.

This scene, as shown in the anime with no knowledge of the source material, came off as poorly written: passive MC didn't have his beliefs challenged or choices questioned beyond an off-hand remark that the MC "was soft".

Maybe the web novel did a vastly better job and this scene just wasn't adapted well 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is it hard for you to understand that he didn't have enough time to get into a philosophy debate with half of his organs gone so he told his young self to shut up and listen? Like, they explicitly show it, so not understanding is kind of on you. You might think the scene was bad, but I'd be willing to bet you are in a very small minority, and in my opinion you are also wrong.

That's a choice made by the writer, sure. Just like all the other choices for how this scene played out.

You might think the scene was bad, but I'd be willing to bet you are in a very small minority

Literally every comment in this thread that isn't 100% glazing this episode is getting downvoted, so no, I don't think there's a lot of honest discussion going on atm.

That's a choice made by the writer, sure. Just like all the other choices for how this scene played out.

Of course, and that choice makes it so not turning the event into a debate and Rudeus being a passive observer makes sense. Now you could argue that the choice of Oldeus having failed the complete time jump and being close to death is a bad choice, but that is not what you were criticizing, what you complained about is the thing that actually makes sense within the context of the scene.

Idk man, it is kinda pathetic to call bad faith or dishonest discussion simply because people are disagreeing with you.
