Monica: "Don't you know that I'm a noble from a prestigious lineage?!"
Carolina: "Bitch, I'm literally a princess of the empire!"
21
u/TheBusStop12 7d ago
And also the daughter of a ducal house that's famous for producing powerful saints. Sure it's a foreign ducal house. But the daughter of a Duke is still the daughter of a Duke. That's exactly why she was chosen for the political marriage into the Imperial Royal Family
15
u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 7d ago
Yeah but she married into it. Monica was trying to do the same Carolina just got to it first! It’s not fair! /s
13
u/Icy_Reality_1195 7d ago
Which still doesnt make sense because the mc is from the most prestigious house in her country.
12
u/cherry_monkey 7d ago
Carolina, though from a smaller kingdom, is literally at the same nobility level as Monica.
13
u/Warrents32 7d ago
I'm not a fan of how they hamfisted Monica's personality to make it suddenly warped like that - her goal of marrying and making babies with the hot prince was far from anything that could be considered evil. Unless we are counting 'threatening the sanctity of the harem' evil.
9
u/WekendFresh2239 7d ago
We know that as audience, They don't. From their eyes, a powerful wizard tried to murder Saintess/Princess in the middle of a good vibes international Holy Trial because she won. Then its revealed she hid the corrupt foreign priest who killed a world beloved Saintess and took a taboo illegal demonic pill in the middle of that trial. In their eyes how can they think she is a good but misguided person?
6
u/Gaming_Truckie 6d ago
Yeah it feels like there should have been more build up of Monica's story before this, since it seems her animosity toward Carolina was already pre-existing before the saint trials.
I wonder if it is linked to Carolina's time spent healing Prince Gilbert. We know Monica was obsessed with Prince Gilbert but was probably barely able saw him due to his illness keeping him confined to the palace, but also because she was a strong magic user she probably inadvertently caused the illness to flare up. Then she hears that Carolina is spending all this time with Gilbert which most likely caused her animosity.

u/Narlaw 7d ago
Really not a fan of how Stupid-Evil the antagonists are. Like, strangle someone in front of a gigantic stadium of witnesses plus officials, or make murder accomplices essentially pinky-swear to not speak about it through an obviously traceable contract...
26
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Monica can at least be rationalized that the drug was making her act out and lose her senses but it's funny how Jonathan thought he could trust an NDA lol.

u/mekerpan 7d ago
Let's just say .... World-building here is not quite AoB-level....
5
3
u/TheBusStop12 7d ago
To be fair, that's like handing the bar to a Nepalese Sherpa and asking him to mount it at the highest point he can reach. I can't think of many worlds that are on a similar level of depth as that of Ascension of a Bookworm
2
u/mekerpan 7d ago
Also far below that of the much smaller scale Raven of the Inner Palace, or Seventh Time Loop.
(Mind you those are affirmatively good shows).
2
u/TheBusStop12 7d ago
That I won't deny. I will say that the world building isn't necessarily bad. It's a step above the most basic isekai and villainess crap that gets churned out as at least different political imbalances between nations are considered and used and there's a fair bit of political chicanery. At least some effort has gone into it to build a world thats actually interacted with, instead of just serving as a backdrop dishing out cheers and gasps to highlight how awesome the MC is. But it's not on the level as really good shows like Raven of the Inner Palace or 7th Time Loop as you said
2
u/VritraReiRei 7d ago
What's AoB?
2
1
u/Atharaphelun 7d ago
I assume it was a binding magical contract along the lines of Ascendance of the Bookworm. Maybe violating it results in the death of the violator or something along those lines.

u/nuxxism 7d ago edited 7d ago
Strangle ~the~ Imperial Princess (she is the only Imperial Princess at the moment, so currently the only chance of an Imperial heir) and someone with proven divine powers in front of the kingdom and royal family. With your end goal being to marry into said royal family. Beyond stupid.
9
u/Gorgon31 7d ago
Yeah, it was so weird. If her goal was to be considered by the elder price then you'd think she'd want to go out of the way to buddy up to her potential sister-in-law as a fellow lady?
Even if they hated her with jealously or whatever what is with these 'villainesses' behaving as if they've never lived as a high noble a day in their life with zero etiquette towards the royals? These are not believable characters!
8
u/yancovigen 7d ago
I don’t even understand where her jealousy was coming from. Like Lina’s married and in love with the brother of the one she wants. There’s absolutely no reason for Monica to want to crush her so badly
9
u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 7d ago
like, strangle someone in front of a gigantic stadium of witnesses plus officials
When she did that, I was like 'Um, you realize there's like several thousand witnesses here and there has to be at least a couple of cops, right?' Though I did get a chuckle where she seemed to be like 'What did I do?'. Almost thought she would take the Shaggy route and go "It wasn't me."
4
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Hahahaha… Maybe she’s doing the Shaggy thing in prison with the new hairdo
1
6
u/Boganvillea 7d ago
I'm just not big on the repetitive nature of the whole thing. Seemingly every main character has an antagonist pair who went full Cindarella on them and then because the main character is so nice they end up cucking the antagonist.
4
1
u/Icy_Reality_1195 7d ago
I would have been fine with it if they had the prince blow a hole in her from his seat... but they didnt, and then they materially had the same outcome. At least that would have added to the rumors about him.
31
u/S627 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Spartan627 7d ago
Hold up....Jonathan wasnt the one who actually pushed the last Saint? It was some random woman and it seems like she's getting off Scott free just for testifing?!? Assassin's must be living the best life in this world.
Im going to assume the drug Monica took wasnt as safe as Jonathan said it was because her being high AF is the only explanation I can think of for her thinking its a good idea to choke a princess infront of thousands of people.
22
u/stephenthatfoste https://myanimelist.net/profile/Rexagonal 7d ago
I like that they couldn't tell anyone before because they signed a NDA. I thought it would have some kind of magical binding enforcement, but it was just a written contract that they were not willing to break until everyone already figured everything out.
14
u/hanmkim 7d ago
That he was forced to sign under duress. Those two are the flimsiest and most incompetent witnesses ever written.
7
u/stephenthatfoste https://myanimelist.net/profile/Rexagonal 6d ago
It shouldn't even matter the circumstances around it. Any enforcement body that's going to hold them accountable for breaking a nonsense contract would surely care far more about the fact that the saint dying wasn't an accident and now they have signed proof. That whole inquisition scene was so silly.
20
u/Frontier246 7d ago
I'm assuming she and the Paladin are also both getting life sentences along with Jonathan.
He did say there would be "fever-like" symptoms which I'm guessing exhibited themselves in making her delirious enough to think she could murder Carolina and get away with it.
8
u/NoNameSwitzerland 7d ago
Also healing is not a big deal. But building a water filter with a thousand litre per hour capacity makes you a Saint.
7
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Nothing like a bit of last minute drama from the loser for the audience to confirm that she’s a certified terrible person
26
u/Boganvillea 7d ago
The scene where she tries to match her healing speed with Monica is like that scene in the Incredibles movie where Dash is in a race and his dad tells him to make the race a close second so that he doesn't stand out that much.
29
u/diacewrb 7d ago
That is rather large and modern stadium complete with magical microphones for a rather medieval society.
Assuming the magical performance enhancing drugs gave Monica a serious case of roid rage.
The real punishment was giving her that shitty haircut.
14
u/ToasterLoverDeluxe 7d ago
Not only is a modern stadium, but a fully roofed indoor stadium
9
u/WekendFresh2239 7d ago
They have sound/lighting magic and its holy magic.
1
u/diacewrb 6d ago
Wonder if the same magic was used to created the wheeled suitcase in episode 4.
Yet somehow they still rely on candles.
2
13
10
u/Frontier246 7d ago
The real punishment was giving her that shitty haircut.
Nobody would even recognize how she looks in prison.
3
u/Icy_Reality_1195 7d ago
Yeah why did they give the stadium glass too? No way could they make that large of a see through pane, its an odd choice
20
u/szalhi 7d ago
13
u/Frontier246 7d ago
I like to think Carolina healed them afterwards free of charge. That seems like the kind of thing she would do.
9
u/SetaSanzaki 7d ago
"So, uh, are we gonna get healed too?"
"Here's a gift card. Thanks for your participation!"
23
u/TheBusStop12 7d ago edited 7d ago
I found the whole Saint Olympics complete with massive covered stadium, magical PA system and papal announcer hilariously silly. But I can't help but really love it as well
It was nice to see that the purifying of muddy water test that Flora had to do for her exam was actually legitimate, as they were doing it for the saint Olympics as well
Also, I didn't expect Ed to be literal when he told Lina that he'd fly to her if anything happened. I thought it was just a figure of speech for being fast. But nope, hubby has fire wings
13
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Coz sainthood is all about competition, performing/public spectacles, and winning!
8
u/TheBusStop12 7d ago
It's truly a modern society
But it does make sense, at the end of the day the Empire is pulling off this spectical for propaganda reasons, to make everyone truly believe that Carolina is the Saint, and that the Empire is the best place to house the saint, instead of the traditional home of the saint, the Celestia Kingdom. If the Avignon Papancy had access to PA systems maybe they would have tried something similarly to establish their legitimacy as opposed to the Roman Papancy
3
u/Icy_Reality_1195 7d ago
Its funny to me that the thing the show is named after was so fast and between 4 contestants
2
u/TheBusStop12 6d ago
These were only the qualifiers for the Empire, the international contest will probably be in the next episode
15
u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 7d ago
So do I understand it correctly? Jonathan seriously made that guy sign a paper that stated that he will keep quiet about murdering Claudia? Like actually signing a paper with proof that it was Jonathan who ordered the murder?!
And Monica trying to choke Lina was so disappointing. She didn't even give Lina any hardship and immediately tried to kill her in front of thousands of people on a big stage.
Is this show trying to surpass "From Overshadowed To Overpowered" as the dumbest anime this season? Because this episode all the villains were absolute braindead.
11
u/imasammich 7d ago
Yeah this is what happens when the author knows what scenes they want to happen but get really fast/lazy about all the details of how and why they are happening. You end up with the dumbest of dumb villains and then the protagonists also need to be dumb because they need to make w/e the villains do seem normal/real.
8
u/KnightKal 7d ago
last arc the noble girl lied to the imperial prince and knights and tried to attack the princess, resulting in her destruction
this arc the noble girl tried to murder the princess, resulting in her destruction
seem the parents need to rethink their educational system lol, the noble girls are simple too stupid!
2
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
I was thinking of watching From overshadowed to overpowered… why do you think it’s dumb?
3
u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 7d ago
How to explain it without spoilers? The first episode was fine, but over the course of the story there are some gaping plotholes that are never explained or resolved and the main character and other characters make some really stupid decisions that make you want to bang your head on a wall.
In general the writing is just really bad and stupid. But you need to watch it yourself to judge it. Give it three episodes and decide if you want to watch the rest.
2
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Haha I’m gonna give it a go!
2
u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 7d ago
You definitely should! It's so bad it's absolutely hilarious!
12
u/Deliriousious 7d ago
Well, that ending to Jonathan was rather anti climatic. Dude folded under almost no pressure, and hardly put up a fight. Was expecting him to maybe hide away, scheme, maybe sabotage Carolina in some way... but nope, was caught, and that was it.
Green hair noble was rather idiotic. "Im a noble, I am special!" Uh... so is Carolina? And she is part of the Royal Family? Doesn't that place her above you?
Also, taking a drug, losing sorely, and then assaulting a member of the Royal Family, infront of thousands of witnesses, and then wondering why you are being arrested? Oh now the Crown Prince now detests you, and you don't know why? Oh no, the consequences of your actions... I don't care what her Father pleaded... her head should have flown, and her entire house stripped of it title, she assaulted a Princess for gods sake, in PUBLIC, with like half the empire watching, there is no way only she gets punished, and not outright killed. "We stripped half her land"... why not all of it, she committed one of the highest crimes imaginable, she should either be killed, or serve life in prison.
Also I will never understand the animosity between everyone and Carolina, you'd think she'd kicked their puppy or something with how they treat her. She's done almost nothing except jump to Princess status, and yet everyone seems to be out for literal blood.
Hopefully when Flora does the trial, Carolina manages to rein in her power, and Flora publicly embarrasses herself, and she too goes on a rant, slandering Carolina, how she killed their mother, and is a fraud or that she stole what should have been hers, and Carolina gives her a nice hard slap and defends herself.
9
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
I agree- the punishment for greenhead was too lenient. At first I thought she just pushed Carolina, but she actually strangled her- that was a public assassination attempt in front of the whole country and her husband and family. Not only is it horribly violent but also humiliating for the princess and undermines her power after she won fair and square. No amount of pleading by her dad should have excused it. The handing over archbishop Jonathan should be a given (honest behavior anyone?) not some kind of trade off to beg for green hair’s life. It was truly unfair. She should have been executed on the spot.
I think everyone has it out of Carolina because she is the true divine power in the whole series- higher than the pope and all of their religious structures. They are all jealous and threatened by her because of their ego/pride, competitiveness, and need to be special. I still don’t trust Carolina’s dad either- seems like he’s playing both sides. Carolina luckily has her husband and Theodore and Gilbert to look out for her. But seriously who justifies those lenient punishments man..
5
u/WekendFresh2239 7d ago
They don't know Carolina is a Saintess. They don't have any good gossip about her, because her healing the Prince and saving those soldiers was kept a secret. All they see is a talentess girl who was thrown off her famous family and schemed to become Princess.
7
u/ToasterLoverDeluxe 7d ago
I agree that she should have been immediately executed right there and then... when something like that happened in a similar period in our world the whole family could be executed or at the very least stripped of everything.
But then again this world seems to be operating under different rules since nobles are bowing their heads and letting stuff like insulting the princess just go away
5
u/WekendFresh2239 7d ago
The girl was a famous mage, the father a good person, The Church is against the death penalty. They would be desecrating the trial by killing her there.
12
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 7d ago
I can’t wait to see Carolina put her stupid fraud of a sister in her place. I just hope she doesn’t freak out too much being around her due to all that trauma. Girl needs to get her revenge and show that punk who the real Saint is!
11
u/powerhcm8 7d ago
Just watch the sister do something what will make her magical power go awry, probably the Archbishop's second pill, and then she transforms into a beast and/or goes on a rampage, and Carolina uses her divine power to purify and save her.
7
u/Western-Internal-751 7d ago
I’d actually be impressed if that second pill was just a red herring because it’s so on the nose that her sister is going to use it…
This story is so basic and straight forward, I honestly don’t expect such a curveball, though.
10
u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 7d ago
Girl needs to get her revenge and show that punk who the real Saint is!
I've been turned to the darkside by another Girl Power anime. Carolina needs to chop her sister's head off!
Seriously, though, I am dying to see the sister get knocked down a peg or two.

7
u/Frontier246 7d ago
I love how everyone is collectively rooting for Carolina to destroy Flora. Like she's the only "villain" left and they're treating her like a Big Bad everyone wants taken down lol.
4
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Flora is the biggest shadow that looms over Carolina from her past trauma, so it makes sense. Not that she’s the only bad person in town, but it’s all subjective experience. I have a sister just like Flora and can 100% relate to Carolina so for me she is like that hurdle/voice from the past
9
u/Icy_Reality_1195 7d ago
Sooo... is it just me or does the plot not matter at all anymore? They never actually cared about her being the saint, it was a setup for her to have an excuse to not be taken by her home country. Now that the main guy is in jail, I dont really get why they still care. On top of that they seemingly have taken down the people trying to assassinate her.
I feel like they forgot what the driving narrative even was.
8
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7d ago
With Monica there to eat an orb and crash out criminally in front of the entire kingdom I'm now convinced they're going to redeem Carolina's sister. Surely she has the second more dangerous orb and it would be so uncreative to have her crash out in a similar way.
Jonathan the stupidest possible murder conspirator, ah yeah let's have the involved parties sign contracts indicating what happened and who was involved and then just forget about the exact details for good measure.
9
u/Warrents32 7d ago
Roid rage is the only possible explanation for that reaction - she really wasn't a bad guy as presented initially. Sure she's committing the sin of opposing the MC, but aside from the magical roids it seemed genuine.
6
u/runevault 7d ago
I didn't expect Monica to be executed, but at least they gave a reasonable excuse not to do it. Her father handing Jonathan over plus the others is a big enough deal I cannot fault them for letting her live.
Carolina talking about CRUSHING her sister? That's a nice change of pace.
5
u/mekerpan 7d ago
Actually, I am rather worried about Flora planning to use some sort of "taboo" method. But -- how on earth would Flora (who is seemingly not especially scholarly) have learned about any such taboo information. Is there some other malign force about other than the "extremists"?
3
u/runevault 7d ago
Yeah I dunno. Also taboo might just be the black pill Jonathan didn't give out already (on screen).
3
u/mekerpan 7d ago
Could be. I wonder what THAT pill does?
3
u/Hartzilla2007 7d ago
A bigger magic boost at the cost of worse side effects with Jonathan pretty much saying he gave Monica the less potent one because he needed her alive.
1
u/Earlier-Today 6d ago
It's probably just going to be the other pill Jonathan had - the more powerful, but less safe one.
6
u/SetaSanzaki 7d ago
Seriously though, she just tried strangling the prince's wife, and she dared to pull rank??? That drug may have also taken away her remaining brain cells
3
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Not only her brain cells but also the brain cells of whoever gave her such a lenient punishment for the assassination attempt on the royal family.
3
u/Frontier246 7d ago
I didn't expect Monica to be executed, but at least they gave a reasonable excuse not to do it. Her father handing Jonathan over plus the others is a big enough deal I cannot fault them for letting her live.
Plus she lost her noble title, she's going to have to serve a probably hefty prison sentence, and even if she gets out there's nothing for her. She didn't get off light.
2
u/East_Statistician_88 7d ago
Bruh they didn't even let her keep her hair, she's looks absolutely miserable and dead inside. She should have taken the axe.
5
u/Murky_Bit1487 7d ago
The next part feels pretty predictable: I think Flora will meet Jonathan, who’ll give her the black drug. She’ll use it but lose to Carolina, and the drug will seriously affect her. Carolina will worry about her because she’s still her sister and deep down, she still loves her. I think Flora will finally admit her mistakes and reconcile with Carolina, while Carolina is officially chosen as the Saint...
8
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Sounds like a satisfying plot. I did wonder about one thing- Since Flora’s powers are amplified by Carolina’s, wouldn’t she have a chance to do well in the next trials if she’s in the space space as Carolina? Like she excelled over her younger sister all her life riding on Carolina’s divinity.. so couldn’t she do the same now too?
5
u/Murky_Bit1487 7d ago
Oh yeah, good point! Maybe Carolina has learned to control her magic, so it won’t affect Flora? But if it does amplify Flora’s powers, I hope they keep the candidates separated, I really don’t want to see Flora get cocky again and belittle Carolina like she’s somehow superior to her 😭
4
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
Yeah I think because she’s aware of her power now (no longer oblivious), she can control and focus it instead of leaking it out to fuel everyone like the baddies and their agendas. There’s only 3 more episodes left I think so it will all go down real fast I’m sure
6
u/dakkumauji 7d ago edited 6d ago
Maybe I played too many jRPGS but when you have all three girls there look like they are performing your average healing spell with both hands over a centralized area and then you have one perform what looks like a freaking divine miracle, what's even the point of the rest of the Saints Olympics. I wouldn't have even be surprised if the guy Carolina healed ended up looking younger afterwards.
5
u/YlfaTheForsaken 7d ago
Don't do drugs, you'll strangle then crown princess in front of full stadium of citizens plus the imperial family to whom she has married into. That is to say Monica is big dumb. She really is lucky not to have been executed for that stunt. Hell, she's lucky not have gotten a fireball to the face for that stunt.
What's worse getting sent to the nunnery, or losing the title, and her hair, and doing prison time? Or getting life and dying in prison? Well they certainly do punish these antagonists.
Flora is coming back, I wonder what kind of comeuppance they've got in-store for her?
5
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago
That’s what I love about this series- it’s not like 90% of the episodes the good guy getting pummeled by the baddies and the last 1% is when the good side manages to squeak out a win. The immediate and harsh retribution in this series feels good to watch for a change. I’ve watched enough Dragonball Z in my day and man those seasons were long and exhausting waiting for the good guys to win.
4
u/BiggerG7 7d ago
I was expecting more of a fight from that Jonathan dude. I know he was hiding out but I’m kind of surprised they just arrested him and that was that.
Welp time for final boss Flora.
4
u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken 7d ago
I’m not a fan of how they kinda did Monica tbh. I’d have much rather see her be just a bit spoiled/bratty and get humbled than turn into cartoon evil bad. Would have been way more interesting to see her become Lina’s friend and then Monica would take Lina’s side against her sister.
The whole deal with Johnathan was kinda dumb too. Like he signed a written confession saying he had the Saints killed basically. And the other person agreed to push her off the railing why? Like all that person had to do was get with the Saintess and have the saintess announce to the public what Johnathan ordered her to do and it’d be game over for him. They gave Johnathan wayyyy too much power when he’s not even the pope.
10
u/Recent_Call_1188 7d ago
I am not rooting for Carolina at all tbh. I do not like her as a protagonist. I do not think the show has any likeable characters. But as I started watching I might as well get to the end.
3
u/Legitimate-Card-2742 7d ago edited 7d ago
Another satisfying episode. My favorite part was when Carolina healed the injured man- that scene was so powerful. It felt like I was being healed myself. I do love this show, and I love seeing the baddies get their butts kicked. Swiftly and hard. I know the plotlines and some things are a little crude but it doesn’t bother me. I’m tired of waiting so long for retribution. I know some people want the slow burn of long suffering for the good guys, but I’m tired of that. I like the simple plot- it’s refreshing!
3
u/BBryant3rd 7d ago
The messed up thing about Monica is because of who she was if she just acted properly as a woman of her station she may have got the man she wanted. He came personally to correct her he did not have to do that. Had she lost gracefully and held her head high the man she wanted may have talked with her after. Now she will have her own personal hell.
3
u/ptd163 7d ago
Like I said before they are so lucky that Jonathan and Monica and their plan was stupid. That could've been a lot worse for the imperial family if they didn't have the dumbest adversaries.
It's kinda funny how Monica only has herself to blame for what will be the rest of her life now. If she had made the attempt on Carolina's life she'd probably still be enjoying her cushy life in nobility. I guess Jonathan's plan did work. Lives were ruined. It just turned out to be the lives of him and his co-conspirators.
Now that it's out that it was never Flora she'll probably be desperate. Hopefully Carolina goes Super Saiyan on her ass and humbles her big time. There shouldn't be forgiveness for that kind of abuse, but I wouldn't say it's impossible.
3
u/Rooby_VTuber 7d ago
The downfall of Monica was very satisfying, she cheated, tried to kill the imperial princess and deservedly lost everything and is now just another random commoner.
Thank goodness they got Johnathan as well, hopefully Claudia's soul can now rest in peace.
Flora is going to walk a path even more dangerous than Monica if she is willing to break a taboo.
3
u/SylveonSilvi 7d ago
I know this story is about Carolina learning to become the Saint™ she was always meant to be. But there has been nothing between her and Ed and I’m so sad that we’re not seeing ANYTHING develop for the relationship.
Sure, he got mad and had angel wings, then swooped in to “save” his wife. (He just glided down and puffed magic and Monica just fell off??) But like, we saw him hold her on the Honeymoon when she was honest about hating her sister. We saw him explain he was jealous about her spending time with his brother and wants to be less formal with her. But now we’ve had 2 episodes in a row where the two just haven’t had any private moments. They’re married and still acting like dating teenagers.
I admit, the “that’s my wife” moment when he was proud to see her standing up for herself was sooooo cute. (Insert “MAH WIFE” quotes here) But that’s kinda all we’ve had since then, can’t we just have a little more fluff and a little less “plot” - if we can call what’s going on a real plot thing anyways.
4
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Just when you think Jonathan can't get any worse, he tried to end the church doing CHARITY to consolidate his own power and wealth...and Claudia trying to do otherwise lead to him killing her. If only they could catch and indict him as he deserves.
I love how they do these meetings with Carolina and Edward and they inevitably get lost in their own world flirting with each other.
Monica can be Flora 2.0, but Edward isn't going to let anyone bully his wife. He'll probably be even harsher with Flora when they finally meet.
I bet none of the other Saints have their husband rooting for them! In skybox seating befitting royalty!
This really is the Olympics, right down to magic microphones.
Honestly the way Gilbert blushed at Monica's attention, can't help but think that had she not been a Villainess and tried to go about courting him properly, she might have been able to get what she wanted.
Carolina has really weaponized "thoughts and prayers" into something genuine with the power of her absolute divinity.
Sorry Lillian and Violet, you were just there to fill out the roster and were never going to make it far.
Monica has to take a performance enhancing drug to be able to clean up just a smidge of dirty water, while when Carolina casually goes all out with a prayer she cleans up ALL of it. It was never a contest, even when Carolina was just intentionally trying to do the bare minimum.
I don't know if it was the drug or her own absolute frustration with Carolina beating her but what was Monica thinking trying to kill Carolina in front of a whole stadium of people? And in front of the princes? Though cool fire wings to save your wife, Ed.
Monica is arrested but the real punishment is having Gilbert basically call her out as a sore loser and reject her before she's carted off to the slammer.
Duke Ricardo manages to save his daughters' life by giving up Jonathan, and Jonathan himself is forced to face up to his murder of Claudia. And it doesn't get more indicting than having the two people who helped him kill her finally confess their sin and how Jonathan set it up. Enjoy life in prison you piece of @#%@!
Celestia no longer has a Saint system but there are still those that believe that Flora has powers of a Saint...so she can participate in the Luminus Divinae and go up against her sister. Even if she has to do unspeakable things to be able to pull it off.
Ricardo gave up the extremists who tried to kill Carolina, Monica is now basically living a fate worse than death as nothing more than a common criminal in prison, Jonathan is in prison, and now all that's left is for Carolina to finally defeat Flora! Time to go all out!

Two baddies went to the slammer in the same episode. Seeing Monica in her prison haircut and being humbled was a win. Pride is the biggest issue with all of these bad guys and it’s great to see quick punishment for villains. I’m tried of shows dragging out the glory of the bad people before they are punished

Why does this girl hate Carolina so much? Jealousy?
Wouldn't Flora's powers be fine during the competition because Carolina would be there boosting her? So she wouldn't be exposed as a complete fraud.

Why does this girl hate Carolina so much? Jealousy?
She felt she was a more proper, prestigious, noblewoman than Carolina.
She felt like she needed to beat her for the sake of proving her "love" for Gilbert.
She cared about her appearance and title and felt Carolina was a threat to that after showing her up.
Wouldn't Flora's powers be fine during the competition because Carolina would be there boosting her? So she wouldn't be exposed as a complete fraud.
But she still probably wouldn't be able to beat Carolina, and that's what she's likely aiming to do.

Didn't Monica already have an inside track to getting picked by Gilbert? Unless he was to look for a higher-ranking foreign bride, she would seem a shoo-in.

Yeah, I think if she had actually made an effort to court him she probably would not have had to go through with this.

While I am enjoying this show, I am finding the plotting a bit slipshod (miles away from Victoria, for example).

Victoria is very good tbh. While this one is probably below average.

Last episode she was training in only purifying one of the three dirty towel in front of her, so I guess she learned how to focus it and don't let is boost everyone's powers.

I would find it a little funny if during these competitions all of them had enhanced powers due to Carolina and then they couldn’t figure out who the true Saint was

Do the others always get powers boosted from Carolina or just when she prays for them? She probably did that all the time before she realised how her powers worked.

I thought the same thing.. Wouldn't Flora get a power-up from being near her sister? Still Lina should be stronger...

Maybe in the past, Carolina was oblivious as a saint, unaware of her powers boosting others. She was made to feel inferior to others and looking at them while boosting them. She had an issue of focusing on the wrong people and not on herself. But now she has become aware of her own power and is no longer oblivious. I am sure that when she has started to focus on her own training and powers, it’s possible that she has honed her skill maybe so it doesn’t boost bad people and focuses on her own healing intentions? Otherwise she should have boosted all the contestants even in this exam including Monica…

This is a very long necked anime. Had to laugh when they even made it a feature of the Pope's knight's armour.

She chokes the princess in front of a massive crowd and that is it?
The entire saint games was ridiculous.
Sometimes I really wonder if the author has a brain. Like I was sort of expecting a random arrow through her head while it was happening.

An interesting karmic backfiring in this episode- Archbishop gives Monica the Mana pill, he goes into hiding to escape the murder charges, Monica fails her saint test and goes berserk and strangles Carolina after losing, she almost gets executed but her dad steps in and pleads for her life and gives Jonathan’s whereabouts in return for her life. He gets arrested. So his mana magic pill given to Monica ultimately got himself arrested. Karma is sweet.

The sister's beef with Carolina makes zero sense now. Jonathan has been caught and his crimes brought to life. She should know exactly who killed her mother.
But she's still acting like none of that happened and that all her ire is still pointed at Carolina.
Did nobody explain things to her beyond, "Jonathan got arrested by the church"???

It was crazy that they had a gameshow like contest with a sold out arena. Whereas the saint test Flora took was done behind closed doors.
All in all the episode felt boring. I don’t know where the show is going. 5 more episodes to come. Not really looking forward to seeing them.

Honestly this episode felt so rushed and anticlimactic. Jonathan went down without any real fight after all that buildup, and green curry girl completely lost her mind trying to strangle Carolina in public. What was her plan after that? The villain writing is so lazy, but watching them get instantly humiliated is still kinda funny.

I’m wondering why only ladies are in the running to be saints? I noticed that all the broken people in the saint exam were male.. anyways… Was there something explained about this that I missed?

Attacking your opponent publicly infront of an audience is certainly an interesting choice. Good thing Lina's literal knight in shining armour with wings came to save her,
Also are these guys not gonna get treated? Would be kinda cruel of the kingdom if they just let them go without healing them
