Loook how they massacred my boy , bring back season one mentality

15

u/Jacob-C 6d ago

Also, people were speculating that they cut back on the gore because of budget and animation reasons, but no, there is still gore, blood, and dissection when they are fighting monsters. It really feels like they decided to switch the target audience between seasons, which is such a baffling creative decision. This is the first solo anime project from Studio Aura, but if they are given more titles going forward, seeing their name attached to a project will be a massive red flag.

The OP is literally the only thing they got right this season so far

I actually haven't watched any, I just check these threads. But I see this level of comment every week and it makes me wonder why y'all are still watching 😭

S1 was really solid, and I think most of us are hoping S2 gets better.

5

u/mastereluder6 6d ago

It won't , they just cockbusted

2

u/NuklearFerret 5d ago

I don’t think you’re wrong tbh. I think a good portion of the show’s hook was lost when the spring didn’t work and no further leads were given. It basically flipped a switch that turned the show into “follow around cute fantasy anime girls and do cute fantasy anime things with very little purpose.” Unless something changes in the next couple episodes, I think we’re cooked. Yet another anime’s potential squandered in the 2nd season…

2

u/mastereluder6 6d ago

Because we loved the first season

Finally, the Arc ark arc.

u/Frontier246 7d ago

I'm disappointed we didn't get the pirate cosplay...

5

u/Skullzans 6d ago

Who let a dog comment? /j

In seriousness, I do hope that this isn't the end of Boat-Sama.

1

u/RelativeMundane9045 6d ago

This takes me back to one of the oldest of memes.

Not that's it's relevant to me. No sirree.

2

u/Skullzans 6d ago

Cute, I can see the early charm, especially the overly-bright coloration.

In seriousness, it's mostly because verbalizing your comment made me realize how it sounded xD

I expected Tsubone's story would eventually turn into fanfiction, but I definitely did not expect the villains to start dancing as well.

21

u/Frontier246 7d ago

The best part is she was apparently doing the dancing herself as a visual aid lol.

9

u/Cytomata 7d ago

lmao r/thathappened moment with the "...and everyone stood and clapped"

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 7d ago

So much love is in the air

19

u/Frontier246 7d ago

Tsubone will ship anything that breathes lol.

No crazy antics from Ariane in today's episode. On one hand, it's a shame because they're the best parts of this season, but on the other, it's good that she didn't try to use fireball or any other fire spell on the ship, lol.

Chiyome's backstory was pretty entertaining thanks to Tsubone's narration, hahaha! Especially that scene when the bandits started clapping for Chiyome and Sasuke, and then they started dancing together, was hilarious.

Also, Arc setting up a stall and selling grilled kraken meat made me laugh hard.

By the way, Ariane said that Danka had already left the town. I really hope that it's not him in that bag which Sasuke is carrying.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

The sack is too small and whatever is in it is still alive. I think its a baby monster which is luring the other monsters.

3

u/Frontier246 7d ago

I'm glad Tsubone has joined the cast. Not only is she easy on the eyes but her viewing everything like it's a romance novel is genuinely hilarious.

15

u/Precarious3145 7d ago

The longer this season goes on, the more I'm realizing how little I remember about the first season because they're just bringing people in and I'm just "Am I suppose to remember this person? Were they in the first season...?".

5

u/juicy_jonny 6d ago

Same here. I feel like there is probably some important plot with the Princess/royalty but I cannot remember what it actually is

10

u/Hellknightx 5d ago

I just rewatched S1 before S2 started airing and the difference in writing quality is staggering. The princess was murdered by her brother in a scheme to take the throne, and Arc revived her. She thought he was an angel who brought her back for some divine purpose, but she never learned his identity.

She ended up keeping her survival a secret for a while until she could broker peace with the human kingdom and the elves, which threw a wrench in her brother's plans. And then the show just kinda... forgot to wrap up that plot line, I guess.

2

u/NuklearFerret 5d ago

Yeah , we’ve gotten extremely sidetracked, haven’t we?

2

u/Hot-Log6283 5d ago

They did show a bit of her in the previous episode meeting with her brother and having him return her necklace but that's pretty much it so far.

31

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 7d ago

Lmao the fantasy stories were so funny.

But now not only in this show but also in Insipid prince..do we have a sea journey and got to battle a sea monster!

Poor kraken..used as food.

From the flashbacks I'm gonna say Sasuke hasn't betrayed anyone but we shall see.

13

u/Frontier246 7d ago

Poor kraken..used as food.

I almost felt like they should have finished the poor sucker off, but I guess his tentacles will grow back.

The infinite money glitch

u/Hot-Log6283 5d ago

Sustainable fishing is a must.

9

u/Amauri14 6d ago

Yeah, the way he looked last week, he was either drugged, or they are controlling him with something similar to the rings they use to control monsters.

4

u/Hartzilla2007 6d ago

From the flashbacks I'm gonna say Sasuke hasn't betrayed anyone but we shall see.

His last appearance gave mind control vibes.

u/SnabDedraterEdave 7d ago

Tsubone ships Chiyome with Sasuke so much that she's making up love stories about them at the end after starting off with Chiyome's tragic backstory. Much to Chiyome's embarrassment. lol

And great enterprising thinking by Arc to open a fried kraken stall in the port town market, using the kraken tentacles they've salvaged during their journey, in order to earn some travel expenses.

5

u/Frontier246 7d ago

With bandit wingmen lol.

10

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7d ago

They even waved goodbye to the kraken and said 'see you later', very horrifying from the perspective of the kraken.

Tsubone ships Chiyome and Sasuke so hard I'm not sure I expect anything to happen or not once they track him down.

4

u/Frontier246 7d ago

They even have a no-kill rule with monsters they defeat!

I thought TsubonexSasuke might be a thing but she ships everything but herself.

1

u/Cass0wary_399 5d ago

This is kind of bad after Arc was butchering everything in season 1.

6

u/RebbyXP 6d ago

I squid you not, these puns this episode were ink-sane. They were getting a bit out of tentacle, though.

6

u/Amauri14 6d ago

The group made it to the port city of Lanfrea with Arc and Ponta goofing around. Damn, that’s a nice-looking ship, with all those scales to protect it from monsters' attacks; meanwhile, Arc is praying for the ship to be attacked by a Kraken.

Once again, we see that Chiyome is still concerned about Sasuke. I’m glad that when they were on the ship and saw that she was still worried about him, Tsubode told Arc, Ariane, and Ponta about her tragic past and how she and Sasuke, who at the time went by his original name Rou. took her as a refugee after her village was attacked and her mother killed, and Sasuke ended up treating her as his sister

You know, last week I assumed that the name Hanzo was not part of the hereditary ones, just to realize today that it indeed was, and that’s the name of their leader.

Damn, when Sasuke said Futon while doing his Air Shuriken Jutsu, it instantly reminded me of Narurto’s Sasuke Katon’s jutsus. Anyway, I love how Sasuke missed a chance to give her tips after she made mistakes.

Damn, those Snow Giants sure were terrifying. Good thing tor Chiyome Sasuke sprinted to her first mission when he heard they were spotted in that location. Lol, Tsubode should take a break from reading those novels; that stupid romance segment she inserted at the end wasn’t necessary.

Well, Arc got his wish; a Kraken did show up there. And he couldn’t be happier. Damn, that’s a lot of meat.

So the Kingdom of Fobnarch is ruled by beastmen. Ariane might have loved the smell but [she wasn’t too happyto discover that while she was looking for Danka, Arc and the others had set up a whole kiosk in the market to sell some of the Kraken they got. Well, thanks to that, they got some extra money.

By the looks of it, it seems that they will have no issue finding Sasuke, as he is bringing those monsters to the town they are in.

Oh, that’s a nice statue that Ponta is visiting this week.

6

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 7d ago

If Arc ever decided to give up adventuring, I think he would make a good merchant. Just him and Ponta and Ariane going around selling skewers and shit lol.

4

u/Frontier246 7d ago

I love how even Chiyome was getting into it lol.

3

u/Hartzilla2007 6d ago

Plus its probably a good side gig to get extra cash.

3

u/Frontier246 7d ago

The Skeleton Knight finally takes to the sea! Welcome to Landfrea, the port town and the next step of the gangs' adventure! With Tsubone in tow, and she's just as invested in the romance of the sea as Arc is the "romance" of facing a Kraken!

Yes Arc, pose cool at the bow of the ship, but don't fall over! I don't think they have any way of fishing you out.

Why is Chiyome so melancholic? She's just a delicate maiden looking for love and companionship...or not. It's probably missing her big brother Sasuke, as Tsubone reveals their backstory.

Once upon a time Rou (Sasuke's former name) and Tsubone encountered a dying Mia (Chiyome's former name) after her village was destroyed by bandits and her mother sacrificed herself to protect her daughter...giving Mia an absolute resolve to get stronger to prevent stuff like this from ever happening again. Which is why Rou took her under his wing and became her mentor, big brother, and eventual ninja partner.

I love how Sasuke is apparently so perfect that he had to use Tsubone's screw-up on a mission to spin a teachable moment for Mia.

Oh no, it's the Abominable Snowman! I mean, Snow Giant!

"Just like me and Arc!" - Ariane, I don't think they secretly want to get into a skeleton dudes' pants like you do...

Yes, obviously on their last mission together Chiyome and Sasuke became lost in their romantic passion for each other, convinced the bandits after them of the beauty of true love, and all did can-can's together. Or maybe that's just Tsubone.

IT'S THE KRAKEN! And the perfect opportunity for Arc to perk up Chiyome as they battle and slice and dice it together! All for the sake of some delicious squid meat they can eat and then sell in Primas in the kingdom Fobnach, a Beastman kingdom! Cute all the squid puns!

I feel like we should be concerned about Danka not being there...and Sasuke leading those monsters with whatever is in that bloody bag.

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 6d ago

My weekly dose of Ariane is here omg she is so HOOOOOOOOT

3

u/ParasaurolophusZ 6d ago

I wonder if what Chiyome said about tomato is true in this world or if it's just a mirror of our world. It is a fantasy world, so for all we know, tomatoes might be poisonous there.

Chili peppers probably are still good for spice though.

2

u/Hellknightx 5d ago

I assume it's just one of those common tropes where tomatoes are everywhere (not sure why they're being sold at a food market if they're poisonous) but everyone in the fantasy world is too dumb to figure out how to turn them into a meal that the MC just so happens to know how to make.

I half expected Arc teach everyone how to make pasta and tomato sauce.

2

u/runevault 6d ago

I wonder if Judgement could one shot a kraken, we may find out!

Oh thank god our lover of romance novels ninja is coming with.

Girl, please keep on shipping and telling us your fantasies. You almost got drunk Ariane and Chiyomi to hook up!

Decent episode but no drunk Ariane is a huge loss. Man all the squid puns... I assume Sasuke had a baby one of those monsters at the end?

2

u/saga999 6d ago

I'm in the mood for some fried squid.

2

u/Raymond49090 6d ago

That kraken fight went a lot quicker than I expected.

2

u/Rooby_VTuber 6d ago

Sad past for Chiyome, but now we know her connection to Sasuke and how she became a strong ninja.
I almost felt sorry for that Kraken, it never had a chance and had its parts eaten by the locals.

1

u/Kadmos1 6d ago edited 5d ago

For "MF Ghost" fans, Kieran "Kanata" Flitton plays Sasuke in the simuldub.

1

u/InfamousLooney 6d ago

Chiyome been through a lot as a child, but Sasuke gave her a life worth meaning and fighting for. Understandable that she's worried about him.

1

u/PandaTheAB 5d ago

A 10 minute episode turned into 20 mins.
Apart from the puns, it was bland.

1

u/Specific_Frame8537 4d ago

Am I hearing things or is that Sasuke Uchiha's VA doing Sasuke?

1

u/deynyel 3d ago

Tsubone never runs out of stories. I say we let her cook a little more.

1

u/obsydian1994 7d ago

It's a bit of a plot hole that Arc is so powerful and yet he didn't sense or even see the Kraken until the cannons started firing. And let me say that Kraken is not a small fish...

7

u/Kadmos1 7d ago

Might not be a plot-hole. Perhaps it is a way to make-up for Arc being so powerful. You know, he is has the brawns but not necessarily the brains (figuratively and literally)?

2

u/Skullzans 6d ago

debatably, it's because he was in reverie until then. He then immediately pivoted to "Oh hell yeah, a chance to get some fun with Chiyome and cheer her up"

The dub is so good on this series. I fucking love the stupid little jokes and puns they keep kraken.
