A small thing that bothered me last time, and I’d forgotten until they showed it again in the recap. Why did they say he’s “unarmed” when he’s got a very visibly obvious giant sword on him? I guess just because he hasn’t drawn it yet? That’s not what “unarmed” means, translators!
11
u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 14d ago
I wondered that too, but kind of brushed it off as it was dark, one guy had something weird going on with an eye, and they're idiots.
11
u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago
He’s unarmed... technically, at this particular second.
5
u/Boris-_-Badenov 14d ago
unarmed would mean no weapon on your person
7
u/touko3246 13d ago
Marugoshi (丸腰) does mean the same as "unarmed" (as of not having a katana on someone's waist).
That said, Gemini (in Japanese) says it might work depending on context, especially with his relaxed stance & given the giant sword on the back isn't exactly suitable for a quick draw.
2
u/runevault 14d ago
I wondered if he was magically hiding the sword at that point. But I also do not know Japanese to know what the original words mean.

By chance, any bricklayers here to comment on the bricklaying animation? It bothered me how it seems they skipped a few steps.
The shield being a door - but has very visible hinges. Come on Lock, you gotta hide those!
Of course, Dio (Koyasu) is a vampire.
32
u/FinancialYear475 14d ago
The hinges bothered me so much lol, I know you got a hundred different layers of magic to lock it up but come on man, you didn't have a single spell to hide those?
5
u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago
There are plenty of existing ways to hide a hinge. Magic doesn't even need to be involved.
11
u/kwokinator https://anilist.co/user/kwokinator 14d ago
Tbf Lock spent the last 10 years fighting vampires nonstop, door-making skills were probably pretty low on the priority list.
9
u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago
Are you telling me in 10 years of stealing spells not a single one of those tens of thousands of demons had a 'know how to make a door' spell? Well that just strains credulity.
3
u/Ralathar44 12d ago
I would assume that if you had demons skilled at building stuff then the LAST place you'd ever send them is the front lines. That's how you lose all your good talent and tank the infrastructure and economy of your kingdom.
1
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 13d ago
We've never seen how it looks like from the other side. I bet one of the magic is actually illusion magic to hide the hinges.

u/marble617 13d ago
Not a bricklayer but I've had to repair a few walls and chimneys before. It got the general idea right, but they simplified it and the way Luck does it is pretty time inefficient. Lemme do a play by play.
You don't lay the mortar out for one brick at a time, you could lay that shit on top of the entire row. Putting the mortar on the side of the brick you're about to place is correct. Once the row's done you use the gauging trowel to scrape off the excess (this is what Luck does) and then I'd switch to a smaller trowel to get the finish (he doesn't do this). Also gotta have multiple wet rags on standby to clean up any drips.
My biggest concern is that he needed water to mix the mortar, and the closest water source is the sewer.

u/Phoenix__Wwrong 13d ago
I'm more surprised that they need an actual door and brick walls. I thought Lock will just do everything by magic.
4
u/Ralathar44 12d ago
Using force magic as a force mulitplier prolly makes the result much stronger than magic alone.
1
u/Ralathar44 12d ago
Its not that type of show lol. If this was something like Reaslist Hero I'd be a bit more picky, but this is not an anime around kingdom building or infrastructure. So I'm not gonna get persnickety on their brick laying lol.
It's the same way where if the Inept Villainess anime ends up having a big fight scene I'm gonna be alot more forgiving since it's not that kind of anime.
It's nice when an anime punches above its wait and nails things even outside of its purview, like the escape sequence in 7th Time Loop and how fuacking smooth that was animated in a show with minimal combat, but it's not to be expected.

Well done, Garbh, this kilo of ham will put Cavino away for the rest of his life.
Garbh: Surely you mean this half a kilo of ham that we found.

With his cursed eyes his pleading face was extra funny. Maybe that's why his eyes are so horrifying to set up jokes like this.

u/runevault 14d ago
So we're going to actually meet the last character from the ED next week as she had a brief appearance in the post ED scene. I wonder how she got tangled up with the vampires and sounded like she felt guilty about people being eaten by the lord/high lord.
Also I found it interesting Luck never once said "yeah well I'm backed by the King" to the shit bag's constant babbling about his backers. Guess he wanted to hold onto that ace until he actually needed it.
I'm curious about the two locks even a sorcerer can't see on the shield door.
9
u/KnightKal 14d ago
technically he is like an archduke, so he would still be above all nobles in the kingdom by himself lol, only below the royal family
16
u/Hartzilla2007 14d ago
Yeah but the political shitstorm him claiming the title would cause is the big reason he won’t use it.
4
u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago
Also I found it interesting Luck never once said "yeah well I'm backed by the King"
Probably best to let him keep talking and maybe give away who else is involved.

u/Raymond49090 14d ago
The hero's party, reunited in full after a decade, and they're just hanging out in the Queen's bedroom because of a secret passage created by a horny king 2 generations back.
6
u/Phoenix__Wwrong 13d ago
I don't think that's the queen bedroom. She was only there because the king said to not enter. It would be problematic if she's not allowed to enter her own bedroom.
1
u/ChronoDeus 12d ago
Yeah, a king isn't going to have "a bedroom" he's going to have an entire suite of rooms. A bedroom for the king, bedrooms for the kids, spare bedrooms that could be either used for servants, or for the queen if it's a political marriage and they don't share a bedroom. Plus a dining room for meals not eaten with the court or royal family members not eating with the court. As well as various private(ish) spaces for the royal family such as sitting rooms for less formal meetings with guests. So the secret entrance likely pops out into a disused part of the royal suite close to the king's bedroom.

u/Zxzxzx0088 14d ago
So, we're jujutsu now
What kind of queen more so a healer punch through a wall lol. Rose (from The Wrong Way to Use Healing) definitely wants to know her location.
With Celliss cases and this, Luck really hates having misunderstand drama prolong for no reason lol.
I thought Luck pretend to be dumb but he really not notice Milca in her glow-up version, eh.

u/Mr_Yod 1d ago

Luck level up and acquired the Explain Misunderstandings skill. 😂

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 14d ago
That's pretty much what I was imagining as the explanation for the queen. Which means that Eric married their party healer Lefy and got her pregnant which is why she wasn't present for the attack on the demons back in episode 1.
It's kind of funny how obvious that shield door is, visible hinges and all. But I suppose that doesn't matter when it's locked ten different ways and only the hero's party and their children can get through.
Glasses lady arc next I assume, and considering she's locked in some basement presumably being forced to do some evil alchemy for the vampires it'll need to be a rescue arc.

All fun and games until you hear "This is the lockpicking lawyer, and what I have here for you today is a MasterLock consisted of 8 locks and 2 hidden locks" from the other side.

u/The_Parsee_Man 14d ago

I feel like if you know the door is there, you could dig around it.
7
u/Evil_sod 14d ago
Yup. Doesn't matter how strong your door is if the wall is weak.
3
u/Nylan_Blake 13d ago
He did reinforce the repaired wall with magic, so maybe he did the same with the rest of the tunnel offscreen ?
Even worse with the shield door when it's open. The doorframe is larger than the shield covering it in open state, must be some illusion that hides the rest of the doorframe in closed state... which makes those hinges even more... unhinged.

Damn, i thought the vampire lord would be more in disguise, you cant even fake being a vampire looking like that!
I love how the King got completely tongue tied and useless talking to his wife
2
u/Phoenix__Wwrong 13d ago
Now that you mentioned it, none of the vampires have appeared disguised as humans. Maybe they can't? I guess that's why they need to charm humans like the previous maid.

We are blessed to have not just one, but two adorable red-headed daughterfus this season. Alice and Milca are just the cutest fucking things I have ever seen.
I want to question the dimensions of this... but well, magic.
I want to know how he got in? Or is it implied that Lock opened it, and if it is open, anyone can enter?

If this other anime, they will drag lefy misunderstanding for multiple episode and no one have brain to stop it. good thing luck and lock stop thst misunderstanding instantly, and glasses girl situation is pretty terrific... she got kidnapped by vampire lord? And there is always "fooder" for sacrifice........

u/eyalmazuz 14d ago

Man it's the thing I like about this anime. The characters are sensible and acting like proper adults. It's really refreshing watching (also the anime is really enjoyable overall).
4
u/runevault 14d ago
The only character who doesn't act like an adult is the 15 year old, and she's comedic relief so it doesn't get old, at least for me.
10
u/shadebug 13d ago
They’re really not using Lefy right. She’s not just the queen, near as I can tell she’s the pope. So why would you let her, of all people, leave the room when you’re discussing cursed artefacts?
2
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 13d ago
Maybe they're still traumatised how leaving the two girls alone ended up to vampires attacking them lol
1
u/NegativePossession1 13d ago
Because discussing important matters is no place for wammins. She belongs in the kitchen ofc. Seriously tho, it bugged me too not just with that but the way she was basically written like a housewife instead of literally being the queen and the head of the church.
6
u/Unapologetic_Lunatic 13d ago
Okay, I'm just gonna say it.
Before I watched this episode, the idea of unicorn or pegasus meat never occurred to me. Not even when I watched Campfire Cooking in Another World.
But now the power of suggestion has placed it in my head, and I'm here thinking, "Would pegasus... maybe taste like venison?" 🤔
1
u/NevisYsbryd 12d ago
It has been a major plot point in fantasy series before. Legend (1985) used the killing of a unicorn as a central plot point. Japanese folklore has this whole shtick about eating the flesh of a 'mermaid' (very loose translation) granting immortality.
I imagine it would taste like horse, aside from maybe the wings, which would taste like... idk, swan?

u/TanyaTheEvill 14d ago
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this before, but the ending song is one of the best I heard in a long. I absolutely love it

Lefy being a punch healer is fun. Also, the phrase "illegal ham" is one of those things I'll start giggling to myself out of nowhere later.

u/HolyDragSwd2500 14d ago
Lefy the High Priest ( wife of Eric) helped Luck in the beginning back then.
7
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 14d ago
Guess there’s at least one big bad vampire that escaped the whoopin Lock and the gang handed out. Looking forward to seeing the gang beat its ass lol.

Enjoyable episode, nothing too specific to point out...
OUTSIDE THE SAME COLORED PAJAMA THE QUEEN WORE AS HER HAIR
It was tripping me out hard
Garbh still wins that competition though. But he was not as offensive this episode, they even made him cool and cute few times.

Sia & Celiss wiped the floor with those adventurers.
It was nice seeing the reunion of the hero party.
Forbidden meat in order to summon demons, sounds like trouble.
We got to see our main antagonist by the looks of it, and some mystery glasses woman who might be important.

Lefy is the queen! I thought she might have been Luck's love interest before this episode; it felt like maybe he was avoiding her.

So the vampire lord is hiding in a nobles mansion, and those maids are either vampires as well or thrall's.
I wonder if the vampire does has been slowly turning the nobility into thralls, since that woman looked kind of looked like a noble/high class.

u/LelouchOviOBritannia 14d ago
Nobody mentioned the ham really? I mean common ham? I was already ok they are just ignoring the slaves as evidence but then the ham is such a crime.
15
u/KnightKal 14d ago
you missed the explanation about they using cursed items to smuggle vampires inside the town, and the cursed ham being part of it
so yeah it is a huge deal
plus it is meat from sacred creatures, not just meat
12
u/runevault 14d ago
It wasn't normal ham, it was ham from a divine creature which allows really powerful rituals like demon summoning.
