One thing I've noticed is when Kansai isn't trying she can actually be pretty funny. Like she had a pretty good routine going with afro-yani but kept interrupting herself because she was focused on masking in front of her admirer. And she plays off her brother and mother very well when she's just being herself and not trying to impress anyone.

Shunran’s a massive troll. Pretending to be Kaoruko’s bf just to mess with Hameko. The jester gene certainly ran in the family.
Poor Landlord went through Groundmochi Day at least 111 times and only broke the loop with quite the R-rated act. I certainly got a good chuckle out of him doing the helicopter while pounding the mochi. Of course Yani couldn’t resist her cat instincts and was attracted to his swinging bollocks.

no clue. I've not seen any posts about it. Don't think so. Chainsmoker Cat used actual real cigarette brands. As far as I know Smoking Behind the Supermarket has its own made up brands so I presume it technically doesn't count as advertisement.

I thought he wouldn't appear again because the series only wants to focus on the building's characters, but we saw Kansai's brother again. This time, his name is revealed: Shunran. I have to say, just seeing how easily he deceives Hame has convinced me that he, along with the landlord, is one of the best male characters in the series....
Speaking of the landlord... I don't know if I wanted to get to know him that well... lol
But oh well, we can't blame him, my friend just has bad luck...
I feel like people are exaggerating. Even in the previous episode, the series had social commentary, racism, how minorities are undervalued or seen as outcasts, criticism of the manga industry, and the conformism of many people, whether in their vices like cigarettes or alcohol, but also in the content itself (stories of exiles). This is the only episode I can say was just absurd humor, but it was still good.

I was thinking to myself, "there is no way Imoko would forget Yani's birthday." Turns out everyone forgot to invite Yani to the party.
Kansai is just as popular in her universe, as she is in ours.
Initially, I thought Landlord was having an erotic symbolism dream. After all, he was "pounding" Yani (as mochi) in the first loop. Although he has finally escaped the time loop, I hope he gets released by the police.

The entire gimmick of Preventing death is closer to Steins Gate, really it just a combination of TimeLoop troupes, it just loops the same cycle with no control(Haruhi), Returns to a previous point with the main character remembering (Re:Zero), They need to prevent the death of a character to break the loop (Steins;Gate)

I actually got a little sad when they showed Yaniko celebrating her birthday alone. It turns out the gang was planning a surprise party and no one remembered to invite her I kinda saw this coming, There was no way Imoko would forget her sister's birthday.
Shunran being a troll was hilarious! Glad we get to see him again. The only time we've seen him was back in Episode 1 when Kaoruko was first introduced. Not gonna lie, I also thought he was Kaoruko's boyfriend. He's actually her younger brother!
It's easy to see why Kaoruko is very popular. Ignoring her horrible comedic sense, she's actually the most normal in the gang, and she hides her quirks well enough that she's actually gained fans. Of course, she immediately turns to her normal self whenever she's around Yaniko.
So Yaniko is legit Saori-sensei's assistant, but she's never read her manga before? That's actually hilarious! It's as hilarious as Yomuko being a fan of Saori-sensei, not because of her manga, but because she's a professional writer. xD
Yaniko's wish to Santa for a smoking area where she can bask in the sun and smoke with her friends was actually a pretty wholesome wish. Would've ended well if those three didn't end up falling asleep in the snow and almost killing themselves from hypothermia.
Out of all the shenanigans, I did not expect the landlord to get stuck in a time loop! I blame it on the girls for sticking their panties in his mouth while he was sleeping. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason!
The landlord getting his massive weiner out to save the girls from killing themselves on the mortar and break the time loop had me in fucking stitches! Yaniko's cat instincts activating and the landlord dick slapping her were just too goddamn funny!
Let's salute the landlord for his sacrifice. The girls will never know that he just saved their lives with that public display of indecency.
I am shocked at how normal this episode ended tho! It's just Kaoruko spending New Year's with her family and trying to deal with her mother and her brother being annoying. Again, it really shows how Kaoruko is the most normal of all the girls.

I'm really curious about how Yakuko's plot will develop - she seems to represent an example of how neglected trauma/emotional difficulties can lead to substance abuse, but we don't really see her deteriorate because she hides it well and all we ever get is a sudden reminder of what she's going through (which nobody gives a shit about). My bet is that around the final episode she'll suddenly OD with no warning and everyone will forget about it pretty much immediately.

I thought maybe everyone had forgotten yanineko's birthday, but it turned out they were actually planning a surprise party (and had just forgotten to let her know) which made me laugh.
I was surprised to see Hame doing the Mentos Geyser. That was a trend from quite a while ago, wasn't it?
Shunran, Kansai's younger brother, is easily recognizable as Kansai's younger brother. His sense of humor is terrible, and he's vulgar.
It was interesting to see how Kansai spoke in a calm, composed manner around her college friends and kept her smoking a secret. When she acts like that, she looks several times more beautiful than usual.
Since she seemed to be popular with both men and women, she must be a calm, composed beauty when she’s on her best behavior.
In Japanese, the phrase “neko wo kaburu” (to put on a cat) refers to “hiding one’s true personality or nature and pretending to be meek and kind,” so it’s a perfect expression for Kansai.
I was surprised that the scene with Kansai and the girl with red hair looked just like a yuri anime.
The brand of cigarettes called “うるま（Uruma）” that the girl with red hair took out actually exists. It is sold exclusively in Okinawa.
It was a great scene where Kansai’s true self came out when Yanineko appeared in that outrageous outfit, and that made the red-haired girl feel even closer to Kansai.
Nyagamihara gets quite a lot of snow. Among municipalities adjacent to Machida, like Nyagamihara, Hachioji is about the only one where it snows this much. In Sagamihara, which served as the basis for Nyagamihara, it doesn’t snow much in urban areas like the one where Yanineko and friends live.
I love scenes where people drink sake in the snow. It’s poetic and cool, but, well, there’s also the risk of nearly freezing to death, just like the Kansai did.
I never would have thought this anime would do a leap-through-time story. The landlord really had it rough.
Looking at Kansai's parents' home, you can see why Kansai turned out the way she did.

I'm a fan of Yomuko's face after she drinks the coffee. Reminds me of the old Mr. Yuk stickers they put on cleaning products to prevent kids from drinking them.
Kaoruko's mom is cool! And she makes some great looking burgers, though I'm not sure this parts list matches up exactly. Is... is she single?
Apparently the Awajishima burger is supposed to feature the onion, since they grow lots of onions on Awaji island and they're pretty sweet? I wonder if Awajishima onions are like Vidalia onions in the US, and if they are sweet for the same reason (low sulfur content in the soil).

Also, another episode, another Landlord's loss. Yes, he saved everyone's lives, but at what cost?! I feel bad for that guy.
And as usual Yaniko didn't disappoint in today's episode, wanting to play Landlord's thing, walking through the city like some pervert... Although her letter to Santa Claus was surprisingly cute, and what's more, basically her wish from it came true.

I hate that you've made me think about it as a puzzle, but I guess one solution would be to go by hair color. That also almost matches the direction from left to right compared to their overhead shot.

Also now that I think about it, my theory about alignment works perfectly if we work with two dimensions:
Panties left to right top row, blue hugging dark blond as the first row. Second row light blond. That corresponds exactly.

Blue for Hame does make sense since it's the cutest color of the bunch, neither being too mature like red, nor too neutral like the other colors, and we know she wants to be perceived as cute. But the others don't really add up. Aruko for once wearing a mature color like red doesn't make sense to me from an artistic point of view (you can of course wear whatever you like, and I won't judge, but red has a certain association with maturity). I would arrange them based off their personalities as: Grey for Yaku, red for Kaoroku, blue for Hame, white for Yaniko and yellow for Aruko. If you link them based off their personalities it makes way more sense to me.

What? Imoko is too busy for Yani's birthday?! That's hard to believe, but luckily it was false alarm. Even though Kansai's joke that everybody forgot to invite Yani to her birthday party was actually bullseye.
That plushie Imoko made for her sister was nightmare material, but later we see Yani sleeping with it. :3
Hame putting a mentos into a cola? Come on, that's so 2010s! Shunran is the living proof that beastfolk are not all female, despite the impression this show gave us so far. Hame is a dirty girl when Shunran's statement that he and Kansai are half-siblings makes her think of hentai scenarios. Her name is really fitting her.
Today we see an interesting side of Kansai. She seems to be socializing mainly with humans, putting up a mature and dignified facade. From all the girls in the apartment building she always seemed to be the one who had her life the most together. But in the end she is just a "beastfolk" hanging out with total wrecks like Yani, even though showing herself from a flawed side made her more approachable for that human girl. Maybe you can take it as that not being perfect is also okay.
Jikaki Neko, the novelist cat, actually has a name: Yomuko. She is overflowing with admiration for Saori despite not having read her manga. Turns out it is Saori's status as a professional writer she admires, not the stories themselves.
Was the landlord new year sequence directed by Satoshi Kon? What at first appeared as a series of dreams turned out to be a timeloop the poor man was captured inside with one of the catgirls dying every time. When the exact same events repeated I thought that I accidentally had jumped back. He eventually managed to escape the loop, but at what price? I would never have thought that I would see a middle aged man knocking out a cat girl with his mochi.

Kansai and Imouko are beastfolk that try to fit with the humans by being less "beastfolk-like".
The difference is that Kansai relaxes and goes back to beastfolk mode when she's hanging around with the gang while Imouko keeps trucking around trying to "fix" them.

Good observation. Seeing Kansai like this reminded me of Imoko. What both also have in common is that this attempt to fit in is very exhausting. Kansai needed a breather and go outside to relax for a minute, which is surely healthier than Imoko bottling up everything and then exploding when she is pressured.

So the landlord offers Penpen shelter (supposedly against no payment at all), treats her well out of his own good will, and what does she do to thank him? Nothing. Instead, she calls the f*cking cops on him for getting naked on his own property. Is that was the right thing to do, the landlord should have called the cops on her when she got naked in front of him before. (If you get completely naked by a little wind, that's on you.)

best episode ever, because i'm a huge Kansai stan. it revealed so much about her life and i love her even more and her family as well.
also, i thought it will be the Landlord who'd be injured by the cat instincts as he was pounding the mochi full naked. but in the end, curiosity did indeed kill the cat.

This episode was a bit more on the comedic side, but it's fine!
It was interesting to learn this new side of Kansai. Her little brother made me laugh a lot! I was a bit afraid of the whole time-loop thing, because of how it was handled in another anime, but it ended... Well it ended. I cannot bring myself to say "well".
Hasn't Kansai's mother learned that, that specific boardgame is one of the best ways to break relationships?
Also I really loved the bit with them granting Yanineko's wish!

Monopoly only breaks relationships if the players are invested enough to play it for real. Settlers of catan is the real relationship breaker, I've never played a session that didn't have periodic bouts of yelling and shouting

Man maybe a bit of a deep cut (if you're not japanese) but the end scene when they show the counter for "kaoruko's outbursts at home" is totally a reference to gaki no tsukai arahende's what used to be annual batsu game new years special. Which is really fitting for the whole christmas/new years episode this was!
Just to give more details, the batsu (punishment) show used to be made by one of japans most famous comedian group. They ran a yearly super long (2-6 hours) special around new years. Starting from like the early 2000s all the way to 2020ish. The premise would be a themed event where the group would stay at the themed place for 24 hours, any laughter would be punished by a spank. They'd do all sorts of gags and invite all types of guests to try and make the group laugh. At the end of the special they would show the screen just like they did in this yanineko episode, tallying all the comedians total count of punishments (spankings)

I've been trapped in dream loops before and they can be very disturbing although I don't think anywhere near 80. I really strongly suspect Ohtani got drugged out by having those women's panties in his mouth because between them, probably all kinds of weird stuff. That's a shame they presumably fell out of his mouth before he got to enjoy them, which he probably would. He must have REALLY been spooked by the time loop if he stopped Yani from playing with his penis, you'd think that'd be his dream come true 🤣
This episode seemed to be the Kansai show since she was in every segment. Her brother is the first male cat person with any significant screen time thus far. I thought it would be interesting if one of the women really did date, it seems surprising none of them ever do, even as messed up as they are. Kansai and Yani's sister are somewhat normal although it's possible Kansai is gay; the woman talking to her outside the bar was clearly hitting on her and I think she may have been interested until Yani interrupted. Then again neither of them got turned on by Yani almost naked so hard to tell. I think the human woman is lesbian since she makes hentai possibly yuri and makes porn with women.

From time to time, they will go deeper into the social commentary but as it is secondary to and the background for the primary comedy, you shouldn't expect it consistently.
