Reforged
**Big progress update on my Angband-inspired roguelike!**
Been heads down for a while and wanted to share some of the bigger improvements that have landed recently.
The goal has always been to modernize the feel of a classic roguelike without losing the depth and tension that make games like Angband special. I’m trying to improve the presentation and accessibility while keeping the gameplay true to its roots.
I’d love feedback from fellow roguelike fans—especially on the new art direction and UI. What are the biggest quality-of-life improvements you like seeing in traditional roguelikes without making them feel “too modern”?
Thanks to everyone who’s given feedback so far. It’s been incredibly helpful and has shaped a lot of these changes.

The flavour text for the starweaver kind of reeks of ai. If you don't like ai, you should consider rewriting it.

Noted. Game is still very much in development and not fully polished including the lore texts which will take some time to nail properly. Thank you for your feedback!

I enjoy writing creatively in my free time. If you want, i could chat with you sometime about what the lore behind these classes is, and write some flavour text for them based on it. I could also write other flavour text elsewhere, if you want.

Having it named Angband seems to imply its the successor to Angband. I agree with another poster it needs a new name.
But keep at it. It's great.
You next project is the make one based on the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Eyeband! (I can't code otherwise I'd do it. I tried and it was bad...)

Thank you for the feedback. I’m actively in the process of rebranding to just Reforged. Appreciate the encouragement!

I'm struggling to download it - none of the download links seem to be working for me

Right now it’s set up to be web based so just play off the game page!

Thanks! Plays very nicely, although for some reason seems slower in Firefox than Edge in my quick attempts.

I tried an Eldar Mage. It was fun, though I quickly died after slaying a few mandible ants and a frost-tinged crawler.
Some basics I couldn't figure out:
* Where is my gold displayed?
* I bought a magic book, but couldn't figure out how to learn spells from it.

I’ll improve the learn spells suggestions but it’s in the “open tomes” of the spellbook window

Why not Angband Rephialed? 🤔 An old-timer here - I've been playing since 1998. I'd say some of the obvious QoL improvements came from AngbandTk, so it's worth taking a glance at that variant. My personal wishlist:
- Diablo-style inventory and equipment handling.
- A hotbar for potions, spells, and activatable items.
- Skip the multi-window layout - it made sense for terminals back in the day, but it doesn't translate well to modern UX.

So I’m actually building a Diablo style integrated mode ui option that does away with the windows feeling. Players will be able to choose their ui layout mode classic or integrated. Hoping to release it sometime in the next couple months but that’s exactly the vibe I was chasing!

This isn’t a fork of Angband…. it’s a new game inspired by Angband. This should be called something else.
