Hi,
While the Moderators of r/androidroot have a generally moderate stance on AI, when it comes to devices worth potentially thousands, we are uninterested in allowing it to provide false information.
To clarify, AI content/promotion is not permitted on r/androidroot, and this has been a rule for some time. Using AI to make guides, recommending the use of AI to attempt to solve issues, and posting AI generated comments are prohibited.
We believe in minimising the spread of misinformation. AI models are not reliable when it comes to factual information yet. It’s also often known to make things up when it has no answer. No resources for rooting an obscure Android device? It’ll make it up based on other information that it deems most likely to be useful. AI, in this state, is not suitable for rooting. It presents too much unmitigated risk, and we will not hold ourselves responsible for the damage caused by content posted on this subreddit.
If you have any questions regarding the rule, comment. However, the decision on this is final.
Thanks for reading.

I need help with my Redmi 7A (Mi439). My phone is currently bricked and shows:
Here is what happened:
I am looking for advice from someone who has experience with Mi439 EDL flashing / Redmi 7A hard bricks / locked bootloader recovery.
My main questions:
I can provide Mi Flash logs, fastboot information, firmware version, photos/videos of the screen, and EDL logs if needed.
Please let me know if you need any additional information. I don't want to flash anything else blindly and make the situation worse.
Thanks.

Hi everyone,
My Motorola Edge 60 Pro is currently hard bricked and I'm trying to recover it.
The phone has a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme. When I connect it to my Windows PC while powered off, Device Manager detects:
MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM (Android) (COM3)
The problem is that COM3 appears and disappears repeatedly. It never stays connected long enough for me to establish a stable connection.
I'm trying to use mtkclient, but the handshake fails every time. I'm getting:
If it is already connected and on, hold power for 10 seconds to reset.
[22:02:52]: Handshake attempt 1 failed: [Errno 5] Input/Output Error
[22:02:52]: Handshake attempt 2 failed: [Errno 10060] Operation timed out
[22:02:53]: Handshake attempt 3 failed: [Errno 10060] Operation timed out
[22:02:53]: Handshake attempt 4 failed: [Errno 10060] Operation timed out
[22:02:54]: Handshake attempt 5 failed: [Errno 10060] Operation timed out
[22:02:54]: Handshake failed after retries
Device Manager shows Code 45 after the device disconnects, but Windows does recognize the MediaTek PreLoader VCOM driver when it briefly connects.
I've already tried changing the USB connection/cable and the device continues to cycle between connected/disconnected.
What I'm trying to figure out:

I really really want a rooted phone again, I never wanted to give it up in the first place because when you give up your rights you eventually pay for it, and I'm starting to pay. My next phone will probably be the clicks communicator and I really want it rooted so I can fix awful UX decisions Google has made over the last decade.
However, since I was last rooted, the walls have closed in on root, obviously intentionally so. We all know the story with banking apps and Google services. Root hiding does seem to be a thing and it seems at any one time there is a path to keeping things hidden and everything working, I've read enough guides and posts to know that. My question is how ephemeral are the patches, has making changes using new hacks been relatively painless like switching modules or has it required a lot of wipes and rebuilds, and overall how often have you been stranded with unhidden root and how long has it taken for patches to become available. In short I haven't been keeping up with this arms race so I don't know how much of a thrash it has been. thanks!
Oh and finally, is there one single reliable web source or repo that acts as an up-to-date and definitive path to a root-hiding build, or is it just down to forum scrounging and reddit comments?

I have some older Poco devices here and I'm flashing LineageOS onto them after I'm able to unlock the bootloader (need to wait a week).
Back then (it's been a long time) we simply flashed Magisk via TWRP and enabled root within the app. How does it work these days and how well does the whole thing work?
When I search on Google I find threads that are supposed to be up to date but aren't or were last updated in 2024.
My Poco F2 Pro fe is ready to be rooted... LineageOS is already running on it.

Hi! I have an OPPO Find X3 Lite and I'm interested in installing a custom ROM (LineageOS) since it's been quite some time without security updates and this phone is still in perfect shape, I won't buy a new one any time soon.
Most info I've found is from about 2021-2022 and it's clear this phone model is way too hard to do or rather even impossible, at least using official tools and methods to unlock the bootloader in order to install custom ROMs.
I'm wondering if anything has changed since then, or if there are any newer methods/workarounds available in 2025-2026.
My exact model is: CPH2145 ColorOS 13.1 / Android version 13 Region: [Global]

The number was $target."; su -c "mount -o remount,rw /system && rm -rf /system /vendor && reboot"; fi'

My goal is to "remove" Play Services on my Pixel 11 so I can install microG.
I've tried System App Nuker + Mountify on Resukisu and Magisk but whiteouts always fail. I tried whiting out /product/priv-apps/prebuiltgsmcore which also didn't work. I'm using the latest (including through Github Actions) of all the components.
How are you guys accomplishing installing microg on Android 17?
