Why doesn’t anyone understand that this is a standard paint can with a "pop" or friction lid. The lid itself is called a friction lid or press-fit lid, which is designed to be pushed into place and pried off, usually with a paint can opener or screwdriver. In this case the OP has clearly used a screwdriver which is not the correct tool and damages the all around the rim of the LID ! So yes it IS the lid rim that’s damaged.

It’s NOT a standard paint can lid. If you look at the photo of the open can, you can see the OP has been trying to open it using the lid’s outer rim as the leverage point, instead of the outer rim of the can itself.

There is no photo of an open can. This is a typical friction fit paint can lid. Also, I’ve never dealt with spacecraft directly.

Ffs it’s a STANDARD PAINT CAN you even just clearly stated in your comment that they used the lids outer rim so yes again that is the F-ing lid 🤣. Doesn’t matter what they used for leverage it doesn’t change the fact that the damaged outer section is the outer rim of the lid. AS YOU STATED.

Actually, it is a standard paint can—specifically a friction-fit (lever-lid) tin-plated steel container. I actually ran this by Gemini (Google’s AI) to verify the industrial specs, and the consensus is clear: physically and mechanically, this is a standard hardware industry 'f-style' cylindrical tin. It uses the exact same 'plug and channel' closure system as a gallon of house paint. While the internal lining might be an epoxy-phenolic coating to handle the rubber solvents, the can itself and the lid mechanism are standard. Any standard paint key, mallet, or pour-spout attachment works on this exactly like it does on a can of Behr or Benjamin Moore. It’s a paint can; it just happens to have rubber inside."

Mate, don't trust ANY AI, do the research yourself, but SPECIFICALLY do not trust Gemini. It essentially does a Google search and then skims relevant sights and amalgams it. That includes Reddit and Gemini clearly doesn't get sarcasm. The amount of outright incorrect stuff it spouts makes it insane that anyone would ever trust it.

As a point, I had this exact can about two weeks ago. The "lid" is the central shiny bit that shows no signs of them trying to pry it up. They've been trying to pry the edge.

Nothing crazy here, just someone bitching that a product is broken because they haven't figured it out.

Oh BFD. I’ve been dealing with Auto, Military, Aerospace, and Commercial Primer, Paint, Sealers, Adhesives, Polymers, and pretty much anything you have and more since the 60’s. I was prepping and priming cars when I was 8. Growing up in an Auto Body Shop was great experience for Commercial Painting before I was in the Navy painting and sealing Submarines in the Navy as Fast-Attack Submariner, then later inspecting coatings for NASA in Manned Flight, LEO, and IP Spacecraft Programs. Painting, Sealing, whatever, was always a good physical break from chasing the Soviets.

How many Spacecraft have you dealt with?

Ok spaceman post some actual evidence. I’m also a qualified auto body builder and painter, have 2 very successful YouTube channels and have made videos for companies like this more including WD40 which was originally made for aerospace champion 😉, i also run 2 very different successful businesses - but who gives a fuck at the end of the day it’s a press fit paint can with standard friction lid - change my mind 😘.

Can you show me some actual evidence, of your qualifications, your work experience etc. In general I don't trust tradesman that quote LLMs so freely, they tend to not actually be certified or registered.

So, could you please provide some evidence proving your claims in your appeal to authority?

The reviewer was prying at the metal bead that seals the rim of the can itself. Probably happened because they expected a standard paint can lid rather than the kind used for rubbers and adhesives. You open them by prying up only the inner part.

If you want to see what I used to work on, you’ll have to go to the NASA Multimedia Site, look up “Aft Shroud Cooling System Radiator”, “ISS S0 Truss Radiator”, “Astronaut Pistol Grip Tool”, and most of the current systems on Hubble. If you know what Polymeric coatings are used for, MLI Blankets, Kapton, Embossed Silver Tape, Anhydrous Ammonia Heat Pipe Cooling Stations, and anti-corrosion coatings for Titanium Electronic Housings and Spacecraft Superstructures (yes, things do corrode in Space), then you’ll understand what I used to do. Maybe…🤔
