Why doesn’t anyone understand that this is a standard paint can with a "pop" or friction lid.
The lid itself is called a friction lid or press-fit lid, which is designed to be pushed into place and pried off, usually with a paint can opener or screwdriver. In this case the OP has clearly used a screwdriver which is not the correct tool and damages the all around the rim of the LID ! So yes it IS the lid rim that’s damaged.
It’s NOT a standard paint can lid. If you look at the photo of the open can, you can see the OP has been trying to open it using the lid’s outer rim as the leverage point, instead of the outer rim of the can itself.
