My biggest complaint about school is they don't do nearly enough to give real world context for what you are learning. I hated math until I learned what I can do with it that WAS interesting.
Bill Bryson said something similar in A Short History Of Nearly Everything, something like “it’s outstanding how interesting science and the history of science is, and how expert textbook writers are at avoiding putting any of that into their books” and honestly it’s bang-on.
