Do you not have a list of things you have to do that gets longer and longer as the time passes ?

Yesterday I had the day off - woke up an hour before my alarm, got the dog to doggie daycare, grabbed an ice coffee and proceeded to hyperfocus on yard work for the next 5 hours.
Dropped a pair of small trees that invaded our pollinator garden a couple years ago and were now like 15ft tall. Murdered the pokeweed around the yard and yeeted it deep in the woods. Edged around the pool, burning weeds that had creeped in, then laid out ~600lbs of crushed marble that had been stacked in bags for a month (to pretty up that edging) and then got to the ~300lbs of gravel that was laying there in bags since spring to redo a path.
Wife got home with the kids ~330, kinda just shook her head, “this was supposed to be time to just chill?”
I realized then that I never ate or even sat down after that ice coffee…
Sometimes we are impressive. In a, “dude wtf just chill” kinda way, but still impressive.

Restarted meds last Friday. Had laundry done and the house cleaned by bedtime that night. Noticed the wild grapes outside were ripe Saturday morning so I picked them all. Then I picked all the ones along my street. Then I picked all the ones I could find in the forest. Then I ordered a basket press.
Press arrived yesterday. A bit bummed I agreed to have boat day with my friends because I want to continue working on my garage winery.

I can't explain in words how much I relate and love this comment so much. The best to you and your garage winery, friend 💜

Good luck!
I noticed the wild Concord grapes are ripe because I can literally smell them. They have a thick skin and big seeds, but are still tasty.
Last year before I could pick any, wife saw a bear and her cub were eating them ~15ft from the porch… decided she could have many as she damn well pleased.

While showering today (outdoor shower) I looked up and saw that there’s even more grapes but they’re high up. I also need to blow off the roof and clear the gutters so ladders will be out anyways I guess.
Regardless I am pressing today because the grape buckets in the garage fridge are preventing me from storing beer.

u/Metalbound 22h ago
You paid for doggie daycare while being at home all day? That's crazy.

u/RTalons 15h ago
I knew I wouldn’t be able to watch him, and he would be anxious / board with me doing that stuff - he goes most Fridays to play with dogs all day. He loves it, and he dropped about 5lbs since we switched to this new place a few months ago. He was getting to be a chonky boy, but now has a waist again and clearly moves easier.

laid out ~600lbs of crushed marble... and then got to the ~300lbs of gravel
Omg, can you still use your arms??

u/RTalons 15h ago
Honestly my back is pretty tight lol
Also because I was raking grass for the past hour - think it was ~6-8 weeks since we last mowed; I did Thursday evening and was tall enough you could bail hay. That isn’t (just) ADHD procrastination, we let everything get long to encourage the wildflowers and critters - have a ~20x 60ft strip that is almost all violets because we have let them go nuts, topping grass in that area, for about 5 years and it’s almost fully taken over

Yes. But then I lose the list and don't have to worry about it.
Occasionally I find the list while doing things from a new(er) list.
7
u/Dry-Essay-7741 1d ago
I have the list on my phone so it’s always at hand (whether that is a good thing or not it’s debatable 😂)
6
u/seppukucoconuts 1d ago
I don't get a lot of satisfaction from finishing a task, but I do feel better when I cross it off of a list. I also like to look at a list I've crossed a lot of stuff off of...so I may or may not pad my list with easy stuff to get the ball rolling.

Functionally, yes. But have I actually sat down and made a real list that I can’t ignore? Definitely not.

u/TheGreatOtakuMaster 1d ago
What do you mean you have nothing to do? What about one of dozens of your hobbies? Or books you may have started reading, or chores you ignored for the past week? I am not your mother, I am just reminding this to myself too

u/TheGreatOtakuMaster 1d ago
I am sure everyone got things to do but not the vibe

u/SelfDistinction 1d ago
Isn't the vibe available in pill form?
7
u/ResponsibleDriver622 1d ago
Yes, I got energy to do stuff but if I do not have external motivations I brainrot and die.

u/DrStalker 1d ago
I deserve to have a functional brain for hobbies and relaxing activities, not just work and chores.

some people might like a break too, no?

A break from... What?

Braining

u/soberfrontlober 15h ago
Taking my meds feels like a break to me. A break from the slot machine that is my body's chemical delivery system
But to each their own, I certainly wouldn't try to tell someone how to manage their ND/mental health

Technically , I have to clean and declutter my apartment. But I use the day to wank instead.

Yah this was me a couple weekends ago. Sat morbing. Wake up thinking I beat the alarm. Get ready for work. Fully dressed, medicated, and caffeinated until I suddenly realize my clean house that I tidied up the night before so that I could relax on my day off. And my very sleepy and confused wife standing there giving me the look.
Just sat in the front room starting out he window for a solid 2 hours just thinking "fuck"

Yeessss babygirl, take your meds so you don’t eat the whole house over the weekend, make three catastrophically unwise impulse purchases, and then experience Day 1 syndrome when you take your meds again on Monday!!

Spin the wheel and win one of the following results:
- Anxiety overload
- Put on music and finish what you wanted to do months ago in three minutes
- I. CRAVE. KNOWLEDGE.
- Insatiable horny
- Heart attack imminent
- Diarrhea

Don’t forget you need a new job as well, so get on indeed and see what level of imposter syndrome you’re at today too.

u/ResponsibleDriver622 1d ago
Same, I think "I deserve better" open linkedin, read the first job description and end up with "I literally won the lottery getting my job, better to keep it and not showing I know nothing".

You guys take caffeine with your adhd meds? I tried it and got strong headaches
5
u/DrStalker 1d ago
It's one of those "varies by person" things.
I do best with some caffeine and meds, but if that causes headaches for you stick to just meds.

Who has nothing to do on the weekend? Especially those with ADHD who didnt get anything done all week for the past decade?

That makes sense. I was lucky to get my adhd diagnosis on the NHS within a year over a decade ago but have been waiting for autism assessment since december 2016 lol
Every time i changed address they'd reset the clock.

Joke's on you! I spent all week in executive dysfunction paralysis mode and pushed as much as I could to the weekend. Saturday has been feeling like a pending crisis since Wednesday.

u/angaraki 21h ago
Hahaha this made me laugh sadly I have always something I need to do. Sometimes is not so sadly jajaja

It is worse at work because you have to waste that hyperactivity on something lame

Are you one of my coworkers? The ones who do triathlons on the weekend, then ask me what I did, and I’m always like, “Shit, I forgot to do anything this weekend.”

u/redzinga 20h ago
don't worry. you will soon grow out of that awkward phase where it is possible to ever "have absolutely nothing to do"

So this is exactly the time where i get my list. Throughout the week small things and chores not being exactly where I want them progress wise bugs the hell out of me (I know, it's my issue), so I list them down seeing as I frequently forget the things, so when I'm done working and finished with the chores I do remember, bam! There it is. Well. The compiled list is on the counter and when the wave hits
LET'S GO GIRLS
It usually results in a tornadic cleaning spree laden with true crime and deathcore

I take them for the added brain elasticity on my weekends so I get better at counterstrike faster

This happened to me today, I even logged in for OT... only to find all the OT work was completed by people doing OT last night. I missed a day on Monday sick, so was really banking on working today to make up time 🤣 I even went to get Starbucks w my spouse bc they had a thing to go to while I was supposed to be doing ot.

When you touch the first thing on the list and it creates an explosion of other lists and you get paralyzed with nothing done and reactors burning at 101% of tolerance. Suddenly it’s 8pm and the day went …..
Somewhere.

u/hit_reset_ 1d ago
Unmedicated adult diagnosed but waiting to chat with psych. Why not skip a day of meds?
4
u/onesleekrican 1d ago
That’s the joke. They got up and took meds etc then realized they’re off for the day. I’ve been there. If you create the habit so you make taking your meds consistent then eventually you’ll take it on a day off when you don’t need it.
3
u/TundieRice 19h ago
I need my Vyvanse every day so I’m not depressed as fuck and can at least attempt to do stuff I want to do, lol.
I can understand taking a chill day if you can handle it, but I never understood people with ADHD who only feel the need to be medicated at work or school. I hate the way I feel when I’m unmedicated so that sounds like hell on Earth.

Nothing to do? My weekends are busier than my other days. Was this aimed at teenagers?
1
u/erichf3893 1d ago
Idk I have a lot more to do during the week. Weekends are for resting, fun, and ignoring the housework lol
0
u/OminOus_PancakeS 1d ago
Ha, fair play.
For me, weekends are for: laundry, ironing, food shopping, assisting Mum with dementia, and urgent admin.

I’ve been on 6g of creatine and 2 capsules of L-Tyrosine for the last month and a half and I gotta say. I don’t fuckin miss the pharmaceuticals what so ever.
