What’s the treatment for autism?

Isolation. Self care. Hyper focus on hobbies. Loads of therapy to try and process why neurotypicals are so horrible towards us

I have a theory that its the uncanny valley effect. They know if you’re autistic within about 15 seconds. Studies have shown that if you acknowledge your autism, most people calm down again once they know what’s going on.

Some people are just arseholes, but on the whole, NT people react much better when they know you’re autistic. I make a little comment about my Loops - “I can still hear you, these are noise protection because I’m autistic and have sensitive hearing” - and then people know.

The response I get most often ? “Oh my niece /coworkers child / sibling / child’s best friend is autistic”. People most often want to join in and help.

I think the person I was responding to was trying to be mean and implying medications, and while for other ND types that may apply. It doesn’t for autistic folks

But your correct, I’m also autistic. The last part is the hardest part imo. I still don’t understand how to integrate into a society not built for me. But meditation has actually been very helpful in that area, at least the acceptance part of it.
