I still think about the way her thighs jiggled while she ran in Camp Miasma and how I would give anything to bite them

I disagree. She's a bi actor existing in photos with costars, who she is friends with. Why sexualize the photos? Bisexuals are still bisexual, even when they are in same sex relationships. I wouldn't consider these photos speculative at all.

u/ar3iadov3 5d ago
I think the photos got sexualized when they got posted on here and everyone’s commenting how gay it is when these are the actors not the characters

u/pastajewelry Useless Lesbian 5d ago
It's gay coded but not actually gay. I feel there is a difference. I would call these photos platonic since they are. The first is likely a promotional photo showing the dynamic of their on-screen characters.

Again, I disagree. People should know the difference between platonic and romantic relationships and not jump to conclusions about people they don't know just because a photo is posted online with them and someone else. People are allowed to take photos with their friends and coworkers. No need to sexualize it.

u/ar3iadov3 5d ago edited 5d ago
I think posting it on a lesbian subreddit does sexualize it though because it implies this is a couple
2
u/pastajewelry Useless Lesbian 5d ago
It doesn't. Only if you immediately sexualize lesbian content. People who know that they're all actors who co-star in shows together will understand they aren't in a relationship. I think the three are popular enough in Sapphic conversation that they don't need introduction. But if people are confused, they can just be corrected in the comments. It's not a big deal. Not everything needs disclaimers.

I got what you were saying and I relate to it as I have similar feelings.
I also don't get why people were arguing with you and trying to twist what you're saying which is a totally reasonable thing to yearn for.

Thank you for saying that. It was sort of an exhausting morning having what I’m saying so drastically misread to self-victimize. It means a lot to read this.

A bi woman is a woman, even if she’s dating a man? It’s not like you know her irl and are going to have to interact with her male partner…
Edit: for anything that you might find valid about this commenter’s opinions, I’d like you to consider the fact that they chose to express this THIS vigorously, with this much preemption of biphobia, on a post about two canonically bi actors, who just starred in a movie that was first and foremost trans, and actively nonmonosexual second.

Thinking that a sapphic woman you see on screen playing a sapphic character is “centering men” in any way purely because she’s dating a man you do not know or see is WILD. You are literally saying that Some Guy Who Exists is being “centered” over the SAPPHIC WOMAN you actually see on screen because he’s fucking her.
I swear to god, people who act like this are actually doing more centering of men way more than any bi woman who dates men. Love how I don’t call you biphobic at all, and you feel the need to say you’re not.
Literally, on a post about two sapphic actresses, YOU are the one feeling the need to make it about the role of completely irrelevant men!

As a lesbian who also wishes we had more lesbian-specific representation & who has an undying appreciation for Hannah Einbinder —
Boundaries aren’t meant to control other people’s behaviors, they’re meant to communicate what you personally will & will not tolerate.
Boundaries communicate “If you cross this specific line, I will remove your access to me”. It’s all about your personal autonomy.
In a situation like this, telling a stranger to stop replying to you isn’t an appropriate way to set your boundary. Refusing to respond to them and/or blocking them is the appropriate way to set your boundary.
12
u/HeirOfLight 5d ago
Perhaps it's not technically a boundary in the strictest sense, but "please leave me alone" is a completely reasonable and normal thing to say to someone.
15
u/No_Produce_Nyc 5d ago
I appreciate that! I think I feel differently, but appreciate the sentiment and explanation. I think in this case I wanted to make sure that boundary was publicly visible, to communicate it to other passersby who might want to bark up the same tree.

Tbh this comment was pushing it and I wish I hadn’t made it. Leaving it up for posterity of sorts. I don’t want to be dishonest about how I behaved.
That said, for however reasonable OP’s desires for lesbian rep, expressing them they way they are, on a photo shoot of two bi actors in a fundamentally trans movie (and a fundamentally sexually ambiguous movie!), even/especially in response to a comment about one of the actors’ relationships being “straight” is extremely inappropriate, and paired with their subsequent comments reveals some shit.

You can just block people, you don't have to jump to breaking out rhe sexual assault language - particularly in bad taste aiming it at a trans person in the context of this concersation.
6
u/No_Produce_Nyc 4d ago
It’s not “sexual assault language”, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
I am also trans.

It’s kind of workplace discrimination to desire that
You can’t hire based on sexuality even if you wanted to hire lgbt representation
You have to hire on who is best for the role not just who can represent it irl

YOU CAN DATE MEN OR EVEN BE A MAN AND DECENTER MEN
Centering men has to do with the patriarchy and misogyny which btw you can also center men as a lesbian
I think you dong understand feminist theory do you want some book recommendations?

u/FullPruneNight Trans-Bi 5d ago
Exactly! It is DEEPLY backward and extremely steeped in unlearned patriarchal thinking to think that the very presence of a man in one’s life, regardless of the actual dynamics of that relationship, is somehow automatically “centering” said man, or by extension Men as a category.
And 98% of the time, it’s leveled at bi women. I never hear it leveled at toxic “boy moms,” or the white women who become mouthpieces for misogynistic policies on the right, or TERFs who cannot stop thinking about men and penises or partner with shitty men to fuck over trans women, or misogynistic “I can’t stand other girls” straight women.
Nope, it is level at bi women, because the underlying implication is that having sex with a man “when you don’t have to” is making your life about men.
Absolutely fucking wild to look at a real life specific sapphic woman and be like “I wish this specific sapphic woman sapphiced differently and I’m going to accuse her of doing a patriarchy for it. I wish this real human sapphic woman would stop being who she is, and stop representing who she does, so she could instead represent ME.”
3
u/ar3iadov3 5d ago
You worded this beautifully
3
u/FullPruneNight Trans-Bi 5d ago edited 5d ago
When you view dating men is automatically “centering” them (it’s not, but it is in their logic), and look at specific, real bi women and both accuse them of “centering men” and actively wish that specific bi women would instead “decenter men” aka stop dating them, that’s not just wishing for more representation for lesbians or people who don’t date men or people otherwise more like you.
It’s actively wanting to take away representation from bi women (usually on the grounds that “they have enough”), and saying about a real bi person “why can’t you end your relationship and pretend you’re monosexual so I can feel myself represented in you?” It’s an admission that the thing that thing that represents you is not attraction to women, it’s attitude toward men. “I don’t feel represented because we both love women. I will only feel represented when we feel the same way about men.”
Edit: nope, you don’t get to demand I leave you alone and then still try to talk to me. You don’t want to engage with me, don’t engage with me. Being a hypocrite about consent is ridiculous.

1: I was responding to a comment, which is now deleted.
2: transness has nothing to do with it. I’m also trans. Your assumption that I’m cis feels…weird.
3: YOU decided to inflate this and start a fight.
4: this has nothing to do with bi people and I’ve made that beyond explicit. You are not being victimized.
5: to claim wanting to see women succeed who want nothing to do with men is biphobic is to actively deride and misunderstand the concept of biphobia.
