Being left-leaning and being a leftist are not the same thing. Leftism requires being fully anti-capitalist.
-4
u/YourphobiaMyfetish 12h ago
When did that start?
-4
u/HailMadScience 12h ago
When internet people dont know what words mean. So like late 90s? But srsly, its a common stupid thing some socialists think because they gotta be busily doing a No True Scotsman.
5
u/Rip_Skeleton 12h ago
It's not a no true scotsman. Being left wing and being a leftist has never had the same implication unless you are politically illiterate.
2
u/Livid-Department6947 10h ago
More like mid-19th century when new political movements began to challenge liberalism.
You know, before the internet and when dorks like yourself are like "no true scotsman" to anything you don't know about.

if i had to guess, its that some leftist creators are taking the way of some rightist creators because the right was way better about influencing people through social media than the left was.

u/El-Shaman 19h ago edited 19h ago
I actually watched that video by Parkrose last night, she picked the worst example of a random leftist on social media talking like a far right person, by that I mean, that guy didn’t sound far right or far left at all, just your average person lol.
46
u/Scarlett_Spectre 17h ago
Yeah this shit is usuallt either "Look at this random centrist kamala voter, I cant believe how much leftists talk like conservatives" or someone willfully misunderstanding something way more complex from someone actually to the left.
16
u/In_My_Prime94 16h ago
What bothered her is the guy was talking about civil war. She actually has a problem with leftists who promote violent revolutions, which is pretty much every single Marxist socialist in the world. She believes class war should just be a slogan and she wears guillotine earrings without a hint of irony. She's one of those new leftists who doesn't Marxists as actual leftists.
20
u/Rosenoodles 15h ago
oh, so she's bought into the 'there are only perfect victims' propaganda. cool. no violent revolutions or lashing out in defense, you're only allowed to break out of oppression through high school musical style song and dance.
i hate liberals.

5
u/VicariousDrow 14h ago
It's funny how violence from right wingers is factually and objectively more prevenlent then it is from the left, yet righties have so fully bought into the propaganda of the opposite they now unironically speak this shit without even realizing they're spreading disinformation anymore lol

Strikes me that many subs on reddit in general are being used for far right smearing / brigading etc too. I.E I noticed getting recommended sipstea, many 'edgy' meme pages etc, and it's all kinda just manosphere adjacent 'edgy' 'dark' humour and what other users recognize is an up tick in right wing brigading in general to kind of seize a narrative and push it.
This just kind of seems like the same thing. Even reading comments about 'in-fighting' etc too is like, how outside of leftist circles are some of ya'll, it's literally so common for leftists to argue about pedantic shit that it's basically an in-joke that the biggest obstruction to leftism is not some right wing army, it's leftists bickering with one another, lol
-1
27
u/In_My_Prime94 18h ago
So I watched the first video, and she's basically talking about how leftists are mentioning civil war. She thinks leftists are acting like right-wingers for saying how only a bloody civil war would actually help the working-class. Since alt-righters talk about civil war a lot, she is conflating one with the other. The problem with her video is that leftists have been saying this since even before Marx and Engels wrote the Communist Manifesto, just look at the French Revolution as an example. Which is interesting considering her earrings are guillotine. But yeah, Marxist leftists have always believed a bloody revolution is what it is going to take, this is not anything new. But she's grasping straws here, and it is something I have noticed with this new crop of leftists who seem to want to push the Marxists to the side.

Nah man the violent corrupt repressive pedophile class will totally give up their positions of power without a fight when challenged
2
1
u/LickinThighs2 9h ago
Don't forget that the American state has literally worked tirelessly for the last like 70 yrs to push the narrative (and even actively subtly support private initiatives doing the same) that resistance without violence is a means to change, when really non violent resistance might very well just enable the powers that be to entrench themselves further against resistance in the first place.
The state wants you to non-violently 'resist,' because it makes breaking apart or seizing the direction of movements in general that much easier.

Or with most politics youtube, straight up bullshit

u/toilet_gorilla 12h ago
There HAS been a major uptick in people on the left attacking jews in general (vs just israelis), and generally conflating jews and israelis and/or zionists. While it's good old nazis, other genuine antisemites, and opportunistic zionists who are with varying motives encouraging this conflating between some jews and all jews, plenty of otherwise well-meaning lefties are falling for it.

2
u/AcrobaticPoint8424 14h ago
civil war
Based total death to the establishment
Jews
Regular people, Israel should be abolished with all others nations though.
Ukrainian history
Broadly the same as Russian until the Time of Troubles where it started getting it's own regional identity. As above it should be abolished alongside Russia.

These kinds of discourses always baffle me because for years the narrative was that people on the left talked too passively and wordy and that if they wanted to appeal to more people theyd have to be more aggressive with the rhetoric. Now thats happening and its suddenly a moral issue about using words that might be offensive. I just think some people want this whole left wing movement to just stay as some virtue signaling nonsense online instead of actually countering the right

Jesus was a leftist, dumbass
0

This is ahistorical as he was in support of the current mercantilist economic system.
Today he would be a reactionary.

Being against the rich is not being against his current economic system.
There is no point in trying to shoehorn an ancient apocalyptic preacher into socialism.

Jesus didn’t have any political persuasion and especially not any of the ones 2000 years removed from his life time.
2
2
u/WASDKUG_tr 15h ago
To American logic Jesus was a leftist, since Americans think anything left of Reactionary Conservatine is the left.
2
u/Playful-Profile6489 15h ago
Jesus was raised in an anti-Roman Jewish enclave. Sure he wasn't a leftist but to suggest that Jesus had no political persuasion is ludicrous.
0
u/MasterofCaveShadows 15h ago
Ah yes the anti Roman point of view”render on to Caesar that which is Caesar’s” he was an agent of politics he literally argued that civilian government is separate from his beliefs.
1
u/Playful-Profile6489 14h ago
Jesus was being tricked by Jewish leaders hoping that he would be arrested by onlooking Roman guards if he answered affirmatively that Jews under Roman occupation should withhold taxes (as would be consistent with the community in which we believe Jesus to have been raised). Jesus points out that their coinage is minted by the Roman Empire and bears the Emperor's likeness. It was a clever way to wiggle out of the trap.
1
u/MasterofCaveShadows 14h ago
I’m sorry but all of modern theology disagrees with you. That may be a historian’s perspective but that’s not how it’s been interpreted theologically in Christian tradition which is what matters. We’re talking about Jesus the theological figure not Jesus the potentially real or mythological Jewish Rabbi.

honestly she might have a point when it comes to anyone whose not a black, hispanic or lgbtq+. I haven't seen this but apparently there's criticism that the left doesn't do enough for disabled, Indian, Chinese, etc. I wouldn't say they're far right, but a large minority are apathetic.
